AIM To evaluate the association of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori), cag A genotype, and type of gastric pathology with ghrelin, leptin and nutritional *** Fasted dyspeptic adults(18-70 years) referred for an upper digestive endoscopy were enrolled in this crosssectional study. Height and weight were assessed for body mass index(BMI) calculation. A sociodemographic survey was administered and nutrient intake was evaluated with 24 h dietary recalls. Serum total ghrelin and leptin levels were analyzed by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay. 13 C-Urea Breath Test was performed and four gastric biopsies were obtained during endoscopy for histopathology and H. pylori DNA amplification and genotyping. Data analysis was performed using χ2, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis tests, Spearman's correlation and linear *** One hundred and sixty-three patients(40.8 ± 14.0 years), 98/65 females/males, were included. Overall, persistent H. pylori prevalence was 53.4%(95%CI: 45.7%-65.8%). Neither nutrient intake nor BMI differed significantly between H. pylori positive and negative groups. Serum ghrelin was significantly lower in infected patients [median 311.0 pg/m L(IQR 230.0-385.5)] than in uninfected ones [median 355.0 pg/m L(IQR 253.8-547.8)](P = 0.025), even after adjusting for BMI and gender(P = 0.03). Ghrelin levels tended to be lower in patients carrying cag A positive strains both in the antrum and the corpus; however, differences with those carrying cag A negative strains did not reach statistical significance(P = 0.50 and P = 0.49, respectively). In addition, the type and severity of gastric pathology in the corpus was associated with lower serum ghrelin(P = 0.04), independently of *** status. Conversely, leptin levels did not differ significantly between infected and uninfected patients [median 1.84 ng/m L(0.80-4.85) vs 1.84 ng/m L(0.50-5.09),(P = 0.51)]. The development of digital pathology and progression of state-of-the-art algorithms for computer vision have led to increasing interest in the use of artificial intelligence(AI),especially deep learning(DL)-based AI,in tumor *** DL-based algorithms have been developed to conduct all kinds of work involved in tumor pathology,including tumor diagnosis,subtyping,grading,staging,and prognostic prediction,as well as the identification of pathological features,biomarkers and genetic *** applications of AI in pathology not only contribute to improve diagnostic accuracy and objectivity but also reduce the workload of pathologists and subsequently enable them to spend additional time on high-level decision-making *** addition,AI is useful for pathologists to meet the requirements of precision ***,there are still some challenges relating to the implementation of AI,including the issues of algorithm validation and interpretability,computing systems,the unbelieving attitude of pathologists,clinicians and patients,as well as regulators and ***,we present an overview on how AI-based approaches could be integrated into the workflow of pathologists and discuss the challenges and perspectives of the implementation of AI in tumor pathology.

Relationship between genotypes and clinical manifestation, pathology, and cccDNA in Chinese children with hepatitis B virus-associated glomerulonephritis

Background:Hepatitis B virus-associated glomerulonephritis(HBV-GN)is one of the extrahepatic manifestations after HBV infection,which would cause great clinical harm to *** present study was undertaken to investigate the HBV-GN genotypes and its clinical relevance in Chinese ***:A total of 41 HBV-infected children diagnosed with HBV-GN were enrolled in the *** patients underwent liver and kidney *** genotypes and cccDNA were detected in their serum samples to analyze the relationship between HBV genotypes and clinical characteristics,cccDNA,and ***:Among the 41 children with HBV-GN,29(70.7%)had genotype C,10(24.4%)had genotype B,2(4.9%)had genotype B/C,and none of them had genotype non-B/*** children had genotypes B or C;moreover,the genotype C was the most frequent *** incidence of hematuria and albuminuria,reduction in complement C3,increase in serum alanine aminotransferase levels and renal insufficiency in the children with genotype C were signifi cantly higher than those in the children with genotype B(P0.05).The frequency of HBV cccDNA positive in the genotype C group was significantly higher than that in the genotype B group(72.4%vs.30.0%,P0.05).Conclusion:Genotype C was the most frequent genotype in the described group of patients with HBV-GN,and the liver and kidney damage indicators were more likely to occur in patients with genotype C.

Update on pathology of retinoblastoma

Retinoblastoma is caused by mutational inactivation of both alleles of the RB1 gene, which maps to chromosome 13 q14 and encodes retinoblastoma protein that acts as a tumor suppressor. Histopathological high-risk features of retinoblastoma are predictive of metastasis or local recurrence. The focus of this update is to emphasize the recent advances in pathology, various molecular key pathways and genome wide approaches for newer potential therapeutic future targets associated with retinoblastoma tumor biology. This review article highlights the new biomarkers expressed by the retinoblastoma tumor for the better survival of patients.

In most pathology labs,clinicians diagnose diseases by examining tissue slices using a light *** process typically requires clinicians to move the microscope stage to different positions and identify areas of interest that can be further analyzed using a higher magnification objective *** proper focusing of the slide,the axial position needs to be constantly adjusted by manually rotating the focus *** a result,the reviewing process can be easily disrupted when the clinician bumps the slide to the objective lens or switches to a different objective lens for focusing *** it remains the gold standard in diagnosing almost all types of cancers,manual microscopic inspection is,in general,labor-intensive and does not form a streamlined workflow in clinical ***,it is largely based on subjective opinions of clinicians:different clinicians may arrive at different conclusions for the same slide and the same person may give different conclusions at different time points[1].
