Objective:To investigate effect of orthodontic force on inflammatory periodontal tissue remodeling and expression of IL-6 and IL-8 in rats.Methods:Eighty SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups,blank control group(group A)with 5 rats,treatment normal group(group B)with 25 rats,inflammation control group(group(group C)with 25 rats,inflammation treatment group(group D)with 25 rats.Immunohistochemistry and histomorphometric analysis was performed to measure the expression of IL-6,IL-8 and the firet molar to the recent movement in the distance.Results:The expression of IL-8 reached a maximum on day 5 and declined thereafter in group B;the expression of IL-6 reached a maximum on day 5 in group B.The expression of IL-6 and IL-8 was gradually weakened with time in group C.The expression of IL-6 and IL-8 were high,and reached a maximum on day 5 and declined thereafter in group D.AD of positive cells in group D were higher than group B at each time point(Porthodontic force was loaded was longer,orthodontic tooth movement distance was greater.Movement distance in group D were longer than group B(Porthodontic force as well as inflammatory stimulus can evoke the expression of IL-6 and IL-8.Under the combined effects of inflammation and orthodontic force,the expression of IL-6,IL-8will increase.

The aim of this study was to evaluate orthodontic treatment needs among Ferlo scholars. The design of the study was descriptive and transversal. For Inclusion criteria, children must live in Widou or live around Widou’s school at least 6 km, be students at primary school of Widou Thiengoly, have a general health state which permits a clinical oral examination and teacher’s and/or parent’s agreement. The investigation was exhaustive and concerned the only school of the locality. More of 4/5 schoolchildren was 10.25 years ± 2.15 old. The majority (83.74%) of children presented an overjet between 0 and 3.5 mm, 1.63% presented a crossbite and 15.45% had OIM and RC different over to 2 mm. More of 30% of schoolchildren presented an overbite between 1 and 2 mm. More of 1/10 of them had an aesthetic teeth perception classified levels 8.9 and 10 corresponding to an orthodontic treatment needed according to IOTN while 20.33% had a score of 4 and 3.25% recorded score of 5 corresponding to a high treatment needed according to IOTN. The results of this study reveal that people need to be informed better about the therapeutic possibilities that orthodontics offer.

Premature contact is one of the most well-known occlusion disorders and can interfere mandibular movement remarkably. The masticatory system has ability to respond with the wide range of adaptive modalities. These adaptations can be functional, structural and/or behavioral. Therefore, this system, like any biological system, cannot be viewed as a rigid and immutable. This paper presents a clinical case which is demonstrating orthodontic management of occlusal prematurity in early mixed dentition by using a protrusive arch wire.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare long-term stability and satisfaction between orthodontic camouflage and orthognathic surgery in treatment of moderate skeletal Class III adults. Materials and Methods: A total of 25 adults females who had been treated with orthodontic camouflage for Class III malocclusions were recalled at least 3 years post-treatment to evaluate stability and satisfaction with treatment outcomes. The data were compared with similar data for long-term outcomes in 21 patients with the same Class III problems who had bimaxillary surgical correction. Results: In the camouflage patients, small mean changes in skeletal landmark positions occurred over the long term, although the changes were generally much smaller than in the surgery patients. Dental changes in the surgery group were more severe than those in the camouflage group. The camouflage patients reported fewer functional or temporomandibular joint problems than did the surgery patients. Both groups reported similar levels of overall satisfaction with treatment. Conclusion: The results suggest that both camouflage and surgical treatment in moderate skeletal Class III adults can achieve satisfactory outcomes and provide long-term stability. If patients do not readily accept surgery because of potential surgical complications or financial difficulties, camouflage treatment may be an effective alternative treatment.

Objective:To explore the effect of maxillary expansion on orthodontics.Methods:Eight beagle dogs were randomly divided into two groups,with 4 dogs in each group.Dogs in group1 were executed immediately and received the direct physical measurement.The magnetic expansion appliance was used in group 2 for the maxillary expansion.After the expansion,the model was taken again and they were executed after cone beam CT(CBCT) scanning.The model measurement method was adopted in group 1 to measure the dental measurement indicators and width of base bone arch.The CBCT measurement method was employed to measure the above dental indicators and bone indicators.The difference in the indicators measured by different methods was compared and analyzed.Results:Before the expansion,there was no significant difference in the bone measurement indicators between the CBCT measurement method and direct physical measurement method.After the expansion,there was no significant difference in indicators between the CBCT measurement method and direct physical measurement.But there was significant difference among the model measurement method,CBCT measurement method and direct physical measurement method.There was the significant difference in the dental indicators between the CBCT measurement method and model measurement,as well as the bone indicators of posterior marginal spacing of greater palatine foramen,posterior marginal spacing of incisive foramen,width of base bone arch and spacing of implant anchorage.Conclusions:There is no significant difference between the effect of CBCT measurement method and direct physical measurement method,but CBCT is significantly better than the model measurement.

A simple overview of daily orthodontic practice involves use of brackets, wires and elastomeric modules. However, investigating the underlying effect of orthodontic forces shows various molecular and cellular changes. Also, orthodontics is in close relation with dentofacial orthopedics which involves bone regeneration. In this review current and future applications of stem cells(SCs) in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics have been discussed. For craniofacial anomalies, SCs have been applied to regenerate hard tissue(such as treatment of alveolar cleft) and soft tissue(such as treatment of hemifacial macrosomia). Several attempts have been done to reconstruct impaired temporomandibular joint. Also, SCs with or without bone scaffolds and growth factors have been used to regenerate bone following distraction osteogenesis of mandibular bone or maxillary expansion. Current evidence shows that SCs also have potential to be used to regenerate infrabony alveolar defects and move the teeth into regenerated areas. Future application of SCs in orthodontics could involve accelerating tooth movement, regenerating resorbed roots and expanding tooth movement limitations. However, evidence supporting these roles is weak and further studies are required to evaluate the possibility of these ideas.

Cellular viability and nitric oxide (NO) production by J774 macrophages in the presence of orthodontic archwires

To assess, in vitro, the cellular viability in a murine macrophage cell line J774 with 9 different orthodontic wires and to evaluate the effects of its NO production. To assess cellular viability by MTT: 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay in the cell line J774 with 9 different orthodontic wires and quantify NO production by these macrophages. Cell cultures were evaluated at 24, 48 and 72 hours. There was no significant difference of the means of cellular viability between the control and the group of wires in the respective time intervals. In the comparison with the control group, there was significant difference in the NO production in groups 1, 6, and 9 at 24 hours interval. Group 8 showed significant difference in relation to the control group at final time interval. Cellular viability in all groups was higher at the final time interval than at the initial time interval. This increase was significant in the control group. In the material groups, the final mean of cellular viability at 72 hours showed no significant difference when compared with the control group. NO production in all groups was higher at the final time interval than at the initial time interval. This increase was significant in the control group. In the material groups, the final mean of NO production at 72 hours was only significant in group 8 (betatitanium) when compared with the control group.

Is Caries in the Early Mixed Dentition Associated with Caries Development during orthodontic Treatment?

Objective: To investigate if caries in the pre-treatment early mixed dentition is associated with caries development in the permanent dentition during orthodontic treatment. Material and Methods: We included 41 consecutive patients (29 girls, 12 boys) with a pre-treatment documentation in the mixed (mean age 9.4 years) and a post treatment documentation in the permanent dentition (age 14.9 years) (two-phased treatment time 4.5 (±1.6) years). The DMFT/S indices were calculated. High-risk and low-risk groups were defined according to dmfs + DMFS score before treatment. Results: Initial dmft/s + DMFT/S (SD) was 5.15 (3.60) and 8.32 (6.64);final DMFT/S was 2.76 (2.84) and 3.01 (3.20). The missing (because of decay) second deciduous molars were most powerfully associated with caries increment during treatment, showing significant correlations to second premolars (r = 0.47, p = 0.003), while fillings on second deciduous molars seem to influence the prevalence of fillings on permanent molars (r = 0.44, p = 0.001). The increment at surface level was 2.01 (2.61) in the whole sample and 2.60 (3.81) in the high-risk group (4 boys, 6 girls). Compared to the low-risk group (10 girls), post-treatment caries experience was significantly higher in the high-risk group (p = 0.029). Boys were more at risk than girls (p = 0.005). Conclusions: Children with elevated caries experience in the early mixed dentition are exposed to higher caries risk during orthodontic treatment. Thus, in prevision of treatment, caries should already be assessed in the mixed dentition, so that an extended prophylaxis program can be initiated.

Background: Awareness of malocclusion and the need to make corrections have increasingly become prevalent among the young population. In the period of adolescence, physical appearance is crucial in the construction of personal identity, including one’s relationship with one’s own body. orthodontic treatment includes improved oral health and enhanced psychological wellbeing. Early orthodontic treatment for children will be crucial to improving oral health. The present study aims to assess the awareness towards orthodontic treatment among school children’s of Aseer region, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: A total of 835 (450 boys and 385 girls) school children’s, of age group between 10 - 15 years were included in the study. A total of 16 schools in the all Aseer region were surveyed during January to May 2018. A pre-structured self-administered questionnaire consisting of 12 questions with multiple answers were given to the children after the clinical examination to assess their knowledge and attitude towards orthodontic treatment. Statistical Analysis: The survey data was collected and organized into Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (Microsoft Inc., USA), and was statistically analyzed utilizing the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20.0 software (IBM Inc., USA). The statistical test used here was the chi-square test and P values less than 0.05 were considered to be statistically significant (P Result: A total of 292 (65%) of males and 285 (74%) of females have heard of an orthodontist. 234 (52%) of males said that orthodontist would align their teeth. 203 (45%) and 250 (65%) of males and females respectively are aware that few teeth needed to be removed for aligning irregular teeth. Majority of the children are aware of taking braces treatment at an earlier age would improve facial appearance. 320 (83%) and 227 (59%) of female children aware of that irregular teeth can affect chewing ability and speech respectively. 261 (58%) of males knew that orthodontic treatment is longer than other dental
