The controllable growth of large area band gap engineered-semiconductor nanowires(NWs) with precise orientation and position is of immense significance in the development of integrated optoelectronic devices. In this study, we have achieved large area in-plane-aligned CdS_xSe_(1-x) nanowires via chemical vapor deposition method. The orientation and position of the alloyed CdS_xSe_(1-x)NWs could be controlled well by the graphoepitaxial effect and the patterns of Au catalyst. Microstructure characterizations of these as-grown samples reveal that the aligned CdS_xSe_(1-x)NWs possess smooth surface and uniform diameter. The aligned CdS_xSe_(1-x)NWs have strong photoluminescence and high-quality optical waveguide emission covering almost the entire visible wavelength range. Furthermore, photodetectors were constructed based on individual alloyed CdS_xSe_(1-x)NWs. These devices exhibit high performance and fast response speed with photoresponsivity ～670 A W^(-1) and photoresponse time ～76 ms. Present work provides a straightforward way to realize in-plane aligned bandgap engineering in semiconductor NWs for the development of large area NW arrays,which exhibit promising applications in future optoelectronic integrated circuits.

The theoretical calculation method of multilayer metal-clad planar optical waveguide presented by Y. YAMAMOTO is greatly improved and transplant into the optical fiber and a suitable waveguide model of in-line single-mode optical fiber polarizer is set up to study its characteristics, the theorical analyses are in accordance with the experimental re suits. The polarizer whose extinction ratio is more than 30 dB at 0.633μm wavelength with an insertion loss of 0.5 dB is formed by grinding off the cladding on one side of a single-mode fibre and evaporating metal onto the polished durface in our Lab.

A new four-channel demultiplexer of single photons is proposed, in which four microresonators are utilized to link the four drop waveguides and the bus waveguide. By adjusting the system parameters, the crosstalk effect of the multiple channel frequencies is suppressed, and multiple peak frequencies with high drop efficiencies in these output ports are achieved. As the 2 × 2 model is scalable, the proposed structure can provide potential applications in designing scalable optical devices.

A novel double-channel drop filter of single photons with only a drop waveguide is proposed. In the structure, two microresonators with a qubit are used to connect the drop waveguide and the bus waveguide with a reflector. By tuning the system parameters, multiple wavelengths with high drop efficiencies in two output channels of the drop waveguide are obtained. As the reflector is independent on its exact location, and one drop waveguide with two drop channels saves the integrated space, this may suggest a potential filtering device which functions in photonic integrated circuits and dense wavelength division multiplexing communication.

Based on the measurement of dispersion characteristic and birefractive index of the fluorinated polyimide film,a statistical optimum design method is proposed and used to realize the design of 32- and 36-wavelengths optical waveguide wavelength-interleave coupler(i,e.,interleaver) with the optimization of polarization fluctuation and wavelength interval of 0.8 nm at 1 550 *** largest cross coupling ratios of the two interleavers are respectively less than 1.8% and 3.5%,while the least through coupling ratios are respectively greater than 98.2% and 96.5%.The output differences due to polarization fluctuation are less than ±1.7% and ±3.2%.

It is known that no uniform electric field profile exists in a planar linear waveguide. The uniform core field can be shown to exist in symmetrical planar waveguides and circular fibers with nonlinear claddings. Theoretical analysis and numerical calculations are carried out to show that when the modal index equals to the core refractive index, the core field becomes uniform at an appropriate optical power. Analysis for a step index circular fiber with nonlinear cladding have also shown that the core field becomes uniform under similar conditions. The occurrence of a uniform field in a waveguide core may believe to have promising applications in waveguide, optoelectronic and photonic devices.
