Translation and piloting of the Chinese Mandarin version of an intensive care-specific pressure injury risk assessment tool(the COMHON Index)

Objective:To translate an intensive care-specific pressure injury risk assessment tool(the COMHON Index)from English into Chinese ***:A four-step approach to instrument translation was utilised:1)English-Mandarin forward-translation by three independent bilinguists;2)Mandarin-English back-translation by two other inde-pendent bilinguists;3)comparison of forward and back-translations,identification of discrepancies,with required amendments returned to step one;and 4)piloting of the translated *** pilot study was undertaken in a Chinese surgical intensive care unit with a convenience sample of 20 nurses.A five-point ordinal scale(1=very difficult;5=very easy)was used to assess ease-of-use and *** were retained where medians4 indicated use and understanding was easy to very ***:Five iterations of steps 1 to 3,and two sets of amendments to the original English instrument,were required to achieve translation consensus prior to pilot *** scoring,sum scoring,and risk categorisation were documented in most pilot assessments(≥80%),but three sum scores were incorrectly *** overall tool and all subscales were easy to use and understand(medians≥4),and most assessments(16/20,80%)took5 min to ***,translations were retained,with minor amendments made to instrument instructions for scoring and risk ***:An easy-to-use Chinese Mandarin intensive care-specific pressure injury risk assessment tool has been introduced through cross-cultural ***,it requires further testing of interrater reliability and agreement.A rigorous translation and reporting exemplar is presented that provides guidance for future translations.

Risk Factors with Intimate Partner Violence among Women Seeking Emergency care

Background: Identifying women at risk for violence caused by intimate partner violence is difficult in connection with visits at emergency department. Aims and objectives: The aim of this study was to explore and describe risk factors of IPV reported by women in connection with seeking emergency care, Design: This study is part of a larger study using an explorative and comparative design. Method: Based upon data from a questionnaire and some demographic data, 82 women who reported to have experienced intimate partner violence answered the Danger Assessment Scale. Results: The results showed that the violence escalated in frequency and severity when a weapon such as a knife or gun was used to harm the women. When the abuser used narcotics and threatened the woman with a weapon, the risk of being injured increased. The odds for being threatened to death when the abuser was reported to use narcotics and illegal drugs was about thirteen times higher compared to the case when the abuser was not using narcotics. Other life threatening factors were discovered such as the man’s capability of killing the woman. Conclusion: By using a questionnaire about the violence, healthcare personnel can identify women who are at risk of being severely injured or killed. By identifying these women, one can take action to provide for their safety. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Using the Danger Assessment instrument can facilitate health care personnel’s ability at emergency departments to identify women at risk for lethal violence.

Symptom trajectories in patients with breast cancer:An integrative review

Healthy lifestyle for people with intellectual disabilities through a health intervention program

There are well known gaps related to health care service and public health interventions for people with Intellectual Disabilities (ID), but there is still lack of research information of what nurses can do to reducing health disparities of persons with ID. The present study aimed at exploring the views of people with ID about a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and to take part in a health promotion program. A qualitative method was an appropriate method for capturing the informants’ points of view. Participants were adults with intellectual disability who would be able to give their consent verbally and in written form. Women (n = 7) and men (n = 6). Data were collected from focus group interviews and analysed according to a qualitative content analysis of the tape-recorded and verbatim transcribed interviews. The participants took part in four workshops about healthy food, and ten physical activities addressing the connection to physical, social and emotional health. The results of the focus group interviews show that participants have knowledge about the importance of a healthy lifestyle for good health including physical activity and healthy food. Participants also describe social interaction and self-determination as important aspects in their life. It could then be concluded that the health promotion program result point at consciousness about a healthy lifestyle. There is still lack of research information of what public health nurses can do to reducing health disparities of persons with ID. Public health nurses work in community-based services and therefore they also might support persons with ID through health intervention programs.

Background: Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a term that covers intestinal diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Due to the condition of chronic and complex disease, the disease requires specialized nursing care and management in the context of a multi-disciplinary approach. As a guarantee of quality nursing care, it is essential to carry out the nursing process. Considering the commitment to assist the patient with Crohn’s disease, the nurse, through the nursing consultation, is able to diagnose the patient’s needs, proceed to the prescription of care and later evaluate the interventions, having the opportunity to develop work aimed at improving the quality of life of these patients. Objective: To describe the nursing process in a patient with Crohn’s disease. Methods: Exploratory case report study, carried out at the outpatient clinic for inflammatory bowel diseases of a public hospital in the countryside of the state of São Paulo, from June 2019 to October 2019. Data collection was performed through anamnesis, physical examination and analysis of medical records. Results: Female patient, 34 years old, diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. With the completion of the nursing process, it was possible to identify five nursing diagnoses and the elaboration of interventions and outcomes. The nursing evaluation was continuous and the patient adhered to the proposed interventions. Final considerations: The systematization and organization of the work of the nursing team proved to be essential for quality care, with efficiency and effectiveness, guaranteeing the patient comfort, general well-being and good rehabilitation.

Nurse care and Comfort in the Puerperium of Girls/Women: Protocol for a Scoping Review

Purpose: Carrying out a scoping review to fill gaps in current knowledge regarding comfort needs in the care provided by nurses to girls/women who experience puerperium. Methods: The procedures guided by the Joanna Briggs Institute will be applied. The searches will be carried out in the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, Excerpta Medica Database, Cumulative Index to nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Web of Science, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, nursing Database, Scientific Electronic Library databases. Studies which are available in full and published in English, Spanish or Portuguese will be selected. There will be no restrictions to the study design or time frame. Two reviewers will independently screen all citations with the aid of software. The degree of agreement between the researchers will be verified by statistics that measure reliability. Through narrative descriptions, charts, and tables, we will present the results obtained. Data analysis will involve descriptive statistics, and qualitative evaluation. We will use the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews checklist to review and write this review. Conclusion: We will summarize the main information available in the literature on the subject, aiming to obtain an overview of the practices employed, and the gaps present in knowledge that require greater attention from the scientific community.

Prevalence of the nursing Diagnosis Lack of Adherence in People Living with AIDS

Introduction: In the 1990s, the development of highly active combination antiretroviral therapy in the treatment of AIDS was highlighted. The great benefit generated by the use of this treatment was the prolongation of survival of the people who got this disease, since it is no longer considered fatal, becoming a chronic condition. Objective: To identify the prevalence of the nursing diagnosis Lack of Adherence, its defining characteristics and related factors in people living with AIDS, to investigate the association between them and the prevalence rates. Methods: Cross-sectional study with 113 patients in a hospital in northeastern Brazil. For data analysis, the test of Pearson chi-square and Fisher’s exact test were used, and also calculated the prevalence rates. Results: Lack of Adherence diagnosis was present in 69% of the sample investigated. The defining characteristics and related factors that are statistically associated with that diagnosis were: lack of adherence behavior, missing scheduled appointments, complications related to development, insufficient skills to implement the system and complex treatment system. The first two characteristics had the highest chances for the development of this diagnosis. Conclusion: The study showed that the diagnostic studied was prevalent in these patients and 3 characteristics and 2 factors showed significant association.

The Learning of Adolescent Students about the Disabled Person Using Board Game

This study aims at verifying the learning of adolescent students about the disabled person using educational technology in the board game mode and using a semi-experimental non-randomized study of pre and post with unintentional probability sample. Validated and standardized instruments were used. Data were processed by SPSS 20.0 and organized in tables. For comparison of proportions, the McNemar test was used. Females predominated (56%), aged between 13 and 14 years old (63.3%) from private schools (58.7%). It was evidenced a significance for learning about visual and hearing impairment on issues of low complexity (p < 0.0001), visual impairment in the issue of medium complexity (p < 0.0001) and hearing loss in high complexity (p < 0.0001). It should be practiced using the board game to school awareness about the theme, because it provides reflection on the theme, contributes to learning and encourages inclusion.

The Effect of Anemia on Quality of Life and Self-care Agency in Turkey Hemodialysis Patients

Objective: Anemia is an important complication which affects quality of life and self-care agency in hemodialysis patients. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of anemia on quality of life and self-care agency in adult patients who receive chronic hemodialysis treatment. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the Quality of Life Scale, the Self care Agency Scale, and a data form were administered to 136 hemodialysis patients who were receiving treatment three hospital-based dialysis units in Istanbul. Results: The health perception of cases whose hemoglobin level was 12 mg/dl and above was significantly better than those whose hemoglobin level was lower than 12 mg/dl. Hemoglobin levels were significantly and positively correlated to physical role function, general health, and health from the previous year (p < 0.05). As the hemoglobin levels of the cases increased, quality of life pertaining to the mentioned domains increased. Conclusion: It was concluded that the quality of life in chronic dialysis patients was affected by anemia.
