Acute ischemic stroke （AIS）, as the third leading cause of death worldwide, is characterized by its high incidence, mortality rate, high incurred disability rate, and frequent reoccurrence. The neuroprotective effects of Ginkgo biloba extract （GBE） against several cerebral diseases have been reported in previous studies, but the underlying mechanisms of action are still unclear. Using a novel in vitro rat cortical capillary endothelial cell- astrocyte-neuron network model, we investigated the neuroprotective effects of GBE and one of its important constituents, Ginkgolide B （GB）, against oxygenglucose deprivation/reoxygenation and glucose （OGD/R） injury. In this model, rat cortical capillary endothelial cells, astrocytes, and neurons were cocultured so that they could be synchronously observed in the same system. Pretreatment with GBE or GB increased the neuron cell viability, ameliorated cell injury, and inhibited the cell apoptotic rate through Bax and Bcl-2 expression regulation after OGD/R injury. Furthermore, GBE or GB pretreatment enhanced the transendothelial electrical resistance of capillary endothelial monolayers, reduced the endothelial permeability coefficients for sodium fluorescein （Na-F）, and increased the expression levels of tight junction proteins, namely, ZO-1 and occludin, in endothelial cells. Results demonstrated the preventive effects of GBE on neuronal cell death and enhancement of the function of brain capillary endothelial monolayers after OGD/R injury in vitro; thus, GBE could be used as an effective neuroprotective agent for AIS/reperfusion, with GB as one of its significant constituents.

Friction drag primarily determines the total drag of transport systems. A promising approach to reduce drag at high Reynolds numbers(> 104) are active transversal surface waves in combination with passive methods like a riblet surface. For the application in transportation systems with large surfaces such as airplanes, ships or trains, a large scale distributed real-time actuator and sensor network is required. This network is responsible for providing connections between a global flow control and distributed actuators and sensors. For the development of this network we established at first a small scale network model based on Simulink and True Time. To determine timescales for network events on different package sizes we set up a Raspberry Pi based testbed as a physical representation of our first model. These timescales are reduced to time differences between the deterministic network events to verify the behavior of our model. Experimental results were improved by synchronizing the testbed with sufficient precision. With this approach we assure a link between the large scale model and the later constructed microcontroller based real-time actuator and sensor network for distributed active turbulent flow control.

We present preliminary results on an all-Ireland network modelling approach to simulate the spreading the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronaVirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),commonly known as the *** the model,nodes correspond to locations or communities that are connected by links indicating travel and commuting between different *** this proposed modelling framework can be applied on all levels of spatial granularity and different countries,we consider Ireland as a case *** network comprises 3440 electoral divisions(EDs)of the Republic of Ireland and 890 superoutput areas(SOAs)for Northern Ireland,which corresponds to local administrative units below the NUTS 3 *** local dynamics within each node follows a phenomenological SIRX compartmental model including classes of Susceptibles,Infected,Recovered and Quarantined(X)inspired from Science 368,742(2020).For better comparison to empirical data,we extended that model by a class of *** consider various scenarios including the 5-phase roadmap for *** addition,as proof of concept,we investigate the effect of dynamic interventions that aim to keep the number of infected below a given *** is achieved by dynamically adjusting containment measures on a national scale,which could also be implemented at a regional(county)or local(ED/SOA)*** find that-in principle-dynamic interventions are capable to limit the impact of future waves of outbreaks,but on the downside,in the absence of a vaccine,such a strategy can last several years until herd immunity is reached.

Along with the development of the IPN(InterPlaNetary)Internet,the terrestrial Internet and interplanetary exploration network will be seamlessly merged with each ***,significant challenges in control and management exist in such a complicated *** include the efficient and reliable dissemination of control information,and the building up of an overlay *** paper reviews current networking technologies for the IPN Internet and presents a novel architecture that divides it into subnets.A network model based on clusters is proposed to account for the problem of dynamic coupling among subnets and achieve monolithic controllability of the whole network.A new paradigm that separates the control and service planes is presented to reduce congestion and guarantee the reliable distribution of control *** also present a modified version of a delay-tolerant-network protocol stack that separates the network layer into generalized inter-cluster sub-layers and discriminative intra-cluster sub-layers to improve the transmission efficiency of control *** results indicate that both the control and service data delivery is more efficient and reliable through clustering of the IPN ***,we present recent achievements in network-information theoretical approaches that can be successfully applied to deep-space communication.

Capacity planning is a very important global challenge in the face of Covid-19 *** order to hedge against the fluctuations in the random demand and to take advantage of risk pooling effect,one needs to have a good understanding of the variabilities in the demand of ***,Covid-19 predictive models that are widely used in capacity planning typically often predict the mean values of the demands(often through the predictions of the mean values of the confirmed cases and deaths)in both the temporal and spatial *** seldom provide trustworthy prediction or estimation of demand variabilities,and therefore,are insufficient for proper capacity *** by the literature on variability scaling in the areas of physics and biology,we discovered that in the Covid-19 pandemic,both the confirmed cases and deaths exhibit a common variability scaling law between the average of the demand μ and its standard deviationσ,that is,σ ∝ μ^(β),where the scaling parameterμis typically in the range of 0.65 to 1,and the scaling law exists in both the temporal and spatial *** on the mechanism of contagious diseases,we further build a stylized network model to explain the variability scaling *** finally provide simple models that may be used for capacity planning in both temporal and spatial dimensions,with only the predicted mean demand values from typical Covid-19 predictive models and the standard deviations of the demands derived from the variability scaling law.

Prior research on the resilience of critical infrastructure usually utilizes the network model to characterize the structure of the components so that a quantitative representation of resilience can be obtained. Particularly, network component importance is addressed to express its significance in shaping the resilience performance of the whole system. Due to the intrinsic complexity of the problem, some idealized assumptions are exerted on the resilience-optimization problem to find partial solutions. This paper seeks to exploit the dynamic aspect of system resilience, i.e., the scheduling problem of link recovery in the post-disruption *** aim is to analyze the recovery strategy of the system with more practical assumptions, especially inhomogeneous time cost among links. In view of this, the presented work translates the resilience-maximization recovery plan into the dynamic decisionmaking of runtime recovery option. A heuristic scheme is devised to treat the core problem of link selection in an ongoing *** Monte Carlo simulation, the link recovery order rendered by the proposed scheme demonstrates excellent resilience performance as well as accommodation with uncertainty caused by epistemic knowledge.

A suitable model for high-temperature heat pipe startup is a prerequisite to realizing the numerical simula-tion for the heat pipe cooled reactor startup from the cold *** is required that this model not only describes the transient behavior during the startup period,but also reduces the computing resources of the heat pipe cooled reactor simulation in the simplest *** this study,a simplified model that integrates the two-zone and network models is *** this model,vapor flow in the vapor space,evaporation,and condensation in the vapor–liquid interface are decoupled with heat conduction to achieve a fast calculation of the transient characteristics of the heat *** experimental system for a high-temperature heat pipe was developed to validate the proposed model.A potassium heat pipe was utilized as the experimental *** experiments were performed with differ-ent heating *** with the experimental results,the accuracy of the proposed model was ***,the proposed model can predict the vapor flow,pressure drop,and temperature drop in the vapor *** indicated by the analysis results,the essential requirements for successful startup are also *** heat pipe cannot achieve a successful startup until the heating power satisfies these *** the discussions indicate the capability of the proposed model for the simulation of a high-temperature heat pipe startup from the frozen state;hence,can act as a basic tool for the heat pipe cooled reactor simulation.

Large strain fixed-end torsion of circular solid rubber bars is studied semi-analytically. The analyses are based on various non-Gaussian network models for rubber elasticity, some of which were proposed very recently. Results are presented in terms of predicted torque vs. twist curves and axial force vs. twist curves. In some cases, the predicted stress distributions are also given. The sensitivity of the second-order axial force to the employed models is considered. The predicted results are compared with experimental results found in the literature.
