Objective： To observe the effects of moxibustion therapy at Shenshu （BL 23） and Zusanli （ST 36） of rats with induced rheumatoid arthritis （RA） on the serumal intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 （ICMA-1） and the pathological tissue, to discuss the mechanism of the warming and activating effect of moxibustion. Methods： After establishing the RA rats model, the induced rats were treated with moxibustion therapy on the acupoint Shenshu （BL 23） and Zusanli （ST 36）, followed by analyzing the pathological section of the ankle of the hind limb and testing the ICAM-1 content with ELISA. Results： The plantar circumferences of the induced rat increased significantly compared with the rats in the control group （P〈0.01）, accompanying with the increase of the synovial layer, the erosion of phlogocytes to chondrocytes and the specific increase of ICAM- 1 content. After the moxibustion therapy, the plantar circumferences decreased significantly （P〈0.01） while the synovial layer tended to reduce. In addition, there was no pathological damage of the articular cartilage and the ICAM content decreased with significant deviation （P〈0.01）, compared to the model group. Conclusion： It was concluded that moxibustion therapy could inhibit the arthrosynovitis and hyperplasia, ameliorate the erosion of phlogocyte to cartilage, prevent articular periosteal lesions and delay the pathological course. The warming and activating effect of moxibustion therapy may involve the inhibition of the formation of ICAM- 1 and pannus.

Objective:To investigate the alteration of delayed memory and its relationship with neurogenesis and angiogenesis in vascular dementia(VD)rats after moxibustion ***:Two hundred adult male SPF Wistar rats were chosen for the ***-six rats were randomly selected as the sham operation *** for rats in the sham operation group(n=36),the others were made into VD models by bilateral comm on carotid arteries occlusi on(BCCAo).After modeli ng,the 108 survived rats were ran domly divided into 3 groups:a model group,a neural stem cells(NSCs)plus endothelial progenitor cells(EPCs)moxibustion group and a NSCs moxibustion ***-transplanted implant was transplanted into the rats in the NSCs plus EPCs moxibustion group,and the rats in the NSCs moxibustion group were transplanted by NSCs *** NSCs plus EPCs moxibustion group and the NSCs moxibustion group received suspended moxibustion therapy at Baihui(GV 20),Dazhui(GV 14)and Shenting(GV 24),(each group was divided into 3 subgroups by the treatment course as 1,2 and 3 courses).Every group was measured by Morris water maze to evaluate its delayed memory after 3 treatment courses and the rat's brain was taken out after perfusion of 4%paraformaldehyde one day after 1,2 and 3 treatment courses,*** protein expression was detected by laser con focal microscope to an a lyze the effect on neuroge nesis and an gioge ***:VD rats showed delayed memory in Morris water maze test 3 d after ischemic *** 3 courses of moxibustion therapy,VD-induced delayed memory deficits were improved in the NSCs plus EPCs moxibustion group and the NSCs moxibustion *** expressions of nestin,doublecortin(DCX)and CD34 increased significantly in the two moxibusiton groups after every treatment course(all Pmoxibustion group,the expressions of nestin,DCX and CD

Objective： To study the mechanism of moxibustion therapy on diabetic peripheral neuropathy for the peripheral neuroprotection. Methods： The DPN model was induced by intraperitoneal injection with streptozotocin （STZ）. The rats were given moxibustion at the acupoint Yishu （Extra） and the acupoint Zusanli （ST 36）. The treatment was carried out once a day and 15 minutes per acupoint, lasting for 56 d in total. The clinical effect of moxibustion was evaluated by detecting blood sugar, urine sugar, body weight and dietary intakes, as well as nerve conduction velocity with neuroelectrophysiological method. The structure variation of sciatic nerve was observed by HE staining and light microscopy, and the level of NGF in the sciatic nerve was determined by ELISA. Results： Compared with the model group, the plasma glucose was significantly lower in the moxibustion group （P〈0.01）, with significantly faster nerve conduction velocity （P〈0.01）, more notably changes in pathological appearance （P〈0.01） and higher level of nerve growth factor （NGF）（P〈0.01）. Conclusion： moxibustion coUld improve the symptom and signs of peripheral neuropathy in rat models with DPN, which may relate to the increased NGF and enhanced peripheral nerve protection.

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of moxibustion therapy plus Liu's pediatric massage(tuina)for children with recurrent respiratory tract infections due to qi deficiency of spleen and ***:A total of 60 children who met the inclusion criteria were divided into an observation group and a control group according to the visiting sequence,with 30 cases in each *** in the observation group were treated with moxibustion therapy plus Liu's pediatric massage,and those in the control group were treated with Liu's pediatric massage *** incidence of respiratory tract infections and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)symptoms score were observed and recorded in both groups before and after *** the clinical efficacy was compared between the two groups・Results:The total effective rate of the observation group was 93.3%,and that of the control group was 83.3%.The differenee between the two groups was statistically significant(Pmoxibustion therapy plus Liu's pediatric massage has a better effect in improving the clinical symptoms and reducing the frequency of respiratory tract infections for children with recurrent respiratory tract infections due to qi deficiency of spleen and lung than the pediatric massage alone.

Effects of different directions of moxibustion therapy on hemorheology in rats with blood stasis due to cold retention

Objective： To investigate the effects of different directions of moxibustion therapy on hemorheology in rat models with blood stasis due to cold retention. Methods： A total of 32 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, based on the random digits table, including a normal group, a model group, a moxibustion along the meridian group, and a moxibustion against the meridian group, with 8 rats in each group. Except the normal group, the other 3 groups were used to make the rat models with blood stasis due to cold retention. Rats in the moxibustion along and against the meridian groups accepted moxibustion therapy in different directions on the trunk segment of the Bladder Meridian after successful modeling. moxibustion for 10 min every day, and 7 d as a course of treatment. Two courses of treatment（a total of 14 d） were carried out. Quantitative score of signs and symptoms change was observed once a week, with a total of 7 times. Hemorheological indexes of rats were detected when the treatment finished. Results： The quantitative scores of signs and symptoms in the model, moxibustion along the meridian and against the meridian groups were significantly higher than those in the normal group after modeling（P〈0.05）. When the treatment finished, the quantitative score of signs and symptoms in the model group was significantly higher than that in the normal group（P〈0.05）; the quantitative scores of signs and symptoms of rats in the moxibustion along and against the meridian groups were significantly lower than that in the model group（P〈0.05）; the quantitative score of signs and symptoms in the moxibustion along the meridian group was significantly lower than that in the moxibustion against the meridian group（P〈0.05）; the whole blood viscosity and erythrocyte aggregation index in the model group were significantly higher than those in the normal group（P〈0.05）, however the increases of erythrocyte hematocrit and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were not obvious（P〈0.05）; w

Objective： To make a bibliometric analysis and evaluation of acupuncture-moxibustion papers on moxibustion therapy published from 1954 to 2007, thus to reflect the diseases spectrum of moxibustion therapy and proper indications of moxibustion therapy objectively. Methods： Statistics were taken by a bibliometric analysis of the data from China Modern Acupuncture-moxibustion Information Databank. Results and Conclusion： The diseases spectrum of moxibustion therapy has 364 kinds of diseases. The most proper indications of moxibustion therapy are malposition, diarrhea, and colitis. The common proper indications are urinary incontinence and dysmenorrhea. The next common proper indications are knee osteoarthritis, temporomandibular joint disturbance syndrome, soft tissue injury, heel pain, asthma, urinary retention and herpes zoster. Diseases spectrum of moxibustion therapy varies with time.

Objective： To summarize the current status of clinical and experimental researches on the treatment of common andrological diseases by moxibustion therapy. Methods： In search of the domestic medical databases by the keywords of moxibustion and andrology, the therapeutic methods of moxibustion on andrological diseases, the rules in acupoints selection and research progress on the mechanism, , are summarized based upon the available literature. Results and Conclusion： moxibustion therapy is safe and effective for common andrological diseases. However, the therapeutic plan, the criteria of diagnostic and therapeutic effect still need to be further standardized.
