The rusty-necklaced partridge(Alectoris magna)and the chukar partridge(Alectoris chukar)are the most common gamebirds in northern *** comparisons of mitochondrial dna(mtdna)have revealed an introgression phenomenon between 2 species of partridge in the Liupan Mountain region of *** is maternally inherited,making it difficult to determine the origin of parental *** assessed the genetic variation and gene flow between these 2 species of partridges using 8 microsatellite loci as neutral diagnostic markers in 171 samples from the hybrid *** data revealed an extensive divergence of genetic structure between populations of rusty-necklaced partridges and chukar *** this study,we found that 19 samples had been previously morphologically identified as rusty-necklaced partridge were genetically identified as hybrids through Bayesian analysis using STRUCTURE *** hybrids exhibited a mosaic of alleles that were derived from both parental ***,chukar partridges did not present the genotype of the rusty-necklaced ***,our findings demonstrate that the hybridization between the 2 species was the result of asymmetrical introgression,with gene flow occurring only from the chukar partridge to the rusty-necklaced par*** addition,we also note the high linkage disequilibrium in populations of the rusty-necklaced *** results indicate that although unidirectional introgression did not reduce genetic diversity of the Alectoris partridges,it affected the balance of gene flow between *** data from microsatellite dna prompted our concern about the genetic integrity of the rusty-necklaced partridge.

In the present study we studied the genetic structure of five Chinese sheep populations of Hu sheep, Tong sheep, Small-tailed Han sheep, Tan sheep, and Wadi （WD） sheep using 15 microsatellite loci. The results showed that the FIT, FST, and FIS statistics computed for the complete dataset had the following values, 0.523±0.140, 0.363±0.131 and 0.263±0.092, respectively. All loci were significantly contributed to the genetic differentiation among population （P0.001）. There is no relationship between the scatter of pairwise FST geographical distance points as geographical distance increases between the five populations. Membership probabilities and genetic structure of sheep populations were estimated when K=2, the populations were classified into Hu, Tong, Han and WD, and Tan sheep group. However, when K=3, the populations were classified into Hu and Tong, Han and WD, and Tan sheep group. The findings supported the previous literatures that these populations are originated on different time stages from the primogenitor population and communicated genetically with each other by natural and artificial selection in different ecological environment.

Biological invasion is considered among the most important global environmental *** of the source and dispersal routes of invasion could facilitate the eradication and control of invasive *** aphid,Aphis glycines,is among the most destructive soybean *** effective management of this pest,we conducted genetic analyses and approximate Bayesian computation analysis to determine the origins and dispersal of the aphid species,as well as the source of its invasion in the USA,using 8 microsatellite loci and the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I *** were able to identify a significant isolation by distance pattern and 3 genetic lineages in the microsatellite data but not in the mtdna *** genetic structure showed that the USA population had the closest relationship with those from Korea and Japan,indicating that the 2 latter populations might be the sources of the invasion to the *** population genetic analyses and approximate Bayesian computation showed that the northeastern populations in China were the possible sources of the further spread of *** to *** dispersal history of this aphid can provide useful information for pest management strategies and can further help predict areas at risk of invasion.

Using data from nine microsatellite dna loci and a population genetic approach,we evaluate the barrier effect of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway on toad-headed lizard,Phrynocephalus vlangalii. The study area is along a 20 km stretch of the railway on northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,and this section of the railway was constructed between 1958–1979. Both assignment tests and analysis of molecular variance(AMOVA) were used for data analysis. We found significant genetic differentiation between the populations from the study area and those from a further southeastern area,which are separated by a 20 km gap. This suggests the existence of population substructure at a fine-scale. However,we did not detect any difference between samples from the western and eastern sides of the railway within the study area,and concluded that the railway may not impose a significant barrier effect on these lizard populations at the present time. Available suitable habitat alongside the railway and bridge underpasses may have facilitated the gene exchange between the sides. The relatively short time since the completion of the railway may not allow the differentiation to accumulate to a detectable level. Since the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau maintains a unique and fragile ecosystem,long-term monitoring of such man-made landscape features is imperative for protecting this ecosystem.

Background Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) is one of the most frequently recognized syndromes among the idiopathic generalized epilepsies (IGEs). CAE is considered to be a genetic disease, with a possible polygenic inheritance pattern. The genes responsible for CAE have not been identified yet. The object of this study was to investigate whether or not CAE is associated with the gene encoding the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) type-A receptor subunits α5 (GABRA5) and β3 (GABRB3) in a Chinese population. Methods Five microsatellite dna repeats, 69CA, 85CA, 155CA1, 155CA2, and A55CA1, adjoining chromosome 15q11-q13, were used as genetic markers. Both case-control study and transmission/disequilibrium tests (TDTs), as well as fluorescence-based semi-automated genotyping techniques, were used in 90 CAE patient-mother-father trios and 100 normal controls of Han ethnicity to conduct association analysis. Results The frequencies of allele 5 of 69CA, alleles 2 and 8 of 85CA, alleles 6 and 7 of 155CA1, allele 2 of 155CA2, and alleles 1 and 11 of A55CA1 were significantly higher in CAE patients than in normal controls. To prevent spurious associations arising from population admixture, we further conducted TDT tests in the 90 CAE trios. The results of TDT analysis further suggested that microsatellite dna repeats 85CA, 155CA1, and 155CA2 were associated with *** GABA type-A receptor subunit genes GABRA5 and GABRB3 may be either directly involved in the etiology of CAE in the Chinese population or in linkage disequilibrium with disease-predisposing sites.

Genetic Analysis of Six Endangered Local Duck Populations in China Based on microsatellite Markers

Seventeen microsatellite loci were used to assess the genetic variation and population structure of six endangered duck populations in China. PIC, heterozygosity with two estimators of genetic differentiation （FST and GST）, and Nei＇s standard genetic distance were evaluated. The results showed that these six endangered duck populations showed high polymorphism. The propor- tion of inter-population subdivision among the six duck populations ranged between 17.0 and 14.7%. The average heterozygosity was 0.706, 0.702, 0.691, 0.676, 0.604, and 0.660 in the Gaoyou, Liancheng, Jinding, Beijing, Shaoxing, and Jianchang ducks, respectively. The average PIC ranged from 0.561 to 0.663. Finally, the results showed higher genetic diversity and difference above the levels of genetic variation among all the populations.

Study on Population Genetic Characteristics of Qinchuan Cows Using microsatellite Markers

To evaluate the genetic polymorphisms and to search for available molecular markers for Qinchuan cattle, 90 Qinchuan cows were genotyped with 12 microsatellite markers. A total of 247 alleles were detected, with the number of alleles ranging from 13 （INRA005） to 33 （HEL13）, giving a mean number of 21 alleles per locus. The total and mean effective allele number were 142.6229 and 11.8852, respectively. Mean sampling variance of the allele frequency was 2.6036 × 10^-4. Allele size ranges of the 12 microsatellite loci were different. The observed heterozygosity and expected heterozygosity were from 0.7842 （INRA005） to 0.9775 （BM315） and 0.7952 （BM315） to 0.9446 （HEL13）, respectively. Mean observed heterozygosity and mean expected heterozygosity were 0.9117 and 0.9047, respectively. Polymorphism information content values were from 0.7653 （INRA005） to 0.9420 （HEL13）, and mean polymorphism information content of the 12 microsatellite loci was 0.8965. All the 12 microsatellite loci were highly polymorphic, which showed that there were rich genetic polymorphisms at these detected microsatellite loci in Qinchuan cows. At the 12 microsatellite loci, the mean fixation index was -0.0076, reflecting that the degree of heterozygote defect at these loci was not high and deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were not significant.

Variation of two simple sequence repeats (SSRs) in the leader region of the waxy gene was analyzed in a sample of 74 accessions, including Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica, japonica and wild rice (***) representing a wide distribution range of amylose content (AC) in cultivated rice. Eight alleles were detected in the (CT) n motif and two alleles were resolved in the (AATT) n motif. The distribution of the alleles of the two SSRs was quite uneven as detected by the (CT) n motif. The repeat numbers of the two SSR motifs, (CT) n and (AATT) n, appeared to be inversely related such that the total length of this region was maintained. AC of the varieties was highly correlated with the length of SSRs. Differences in AC among the various SSR genotypes were statistically highly significant as analyzed using genotypes of both SSR motifs. Although the SSR variation did not seem to have obvious function in the synthesis of the starch synthase encoded by the waxy gene, the almost perfect correlation between the two SSRs and AC level could be used for quality improvement in rice breeding programs.
