Increased temperature of a solution increases its solubility, allowing for a greater level of dissolution of the solute. A greater level of dissolution will result in a change in the density of the solution. When a localized area of the solution is of a different temperature, this will affect the localized density. Density is one of the factors affecting rate of sinking and the difference in temperature will lead to a change in the rate of sinking. Thus, when an object is at different temperatures, it will transfer heat to or from the solution in different manners and the rate of sinking will be different. This study tested whether sinking rate in a solution with excess solute could be used to judge the temperature of an object and the effect was confirmed with impure Graphite blocks in a Potassium Iodide solution.

Imaging plays an increasingly important role in the work up of prostate cancer(PCa) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is generally accepted as the most accurate and promising imaging modality in the local staging of PCa due to its high spatial resolution and excellent soft tissue contrast. The quality and performance of MRI of the prostate has improved dramatically during the last decade. Mainly, the combination of morphological information and functional information on cell density, tissue perfusion or metabolism as provided in multi-parametric prostate MRI(mp MRI) has led to a substantial increase in lesion detection and characterization. The correlation between functional parameters as provided by MRI and the aggressiveness of PCa as determined by the Gleason Score may help in differentiating clinically signifi cant from indolent PCa non-invasively. Besides these pros, radiologists are confronted with an immense amount of information and standardized acquisition, interpretation and reporting of mp MRI is not yet a reality. Furthermore, prostate MRI availability is still limited to high volume centers in many countries; hence, it is not yet a routine tool in common daily practice. Hence, development of guidelines for standardized acquisition, interpretation andreporting of prostate MRI exams is urgently needed in order to provide useful information for treating clinicians. Preferably, multi-centric clinical studies comparing MRI fi ndings to step-section histological specimens are mandatory during the coming years. Furthermore, simplification of the acquisition must be achieved in order to make this imaging modality applicable for daily use in common uro-radiological practice.

The manuscript presents the results from the electrochemical noise (EN) monitoring of Inconel 82 weld overlay on Type 304L stainless steel (SS) weld in 0.01M FeCl3. The microstructure of the weld overlay obtained from optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed an austenite structure, containing equiaxed dendrites and secondary phases at the interdendritic region. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) attached to SEM revealed the secondary phases to be Nb rich Laves phase. The electrochemical potential noise was monitored using a three identical electrode configuration. The acquired signals were detrended, and wavelet analysis was employed to encode useful information from the noise transients. Visual examination of the potential noise-time record contained distinct high amplitude transients typical of localized corrosion attack. The energy distribution plots (EDP) of the potential noise derived from wavelet analysis depicted maximum relative energy on D6-D8 crystals, which represent large time scale events such as those occurring from localized attacks. Also, repassivation events too could be divulged from the potential EDP. The micrographs of the post electrochemical noise experimented specimens revealed the occurrence of localized attacks along the interdendritic region and none inside the dendritic cores. The presence of secondary phases along the interdendritic regions was found to be detrimental in chloride medium, imparting inferior localized corrosion resistance to the weld overlay.

Highly homogeneous, well dispersed SiO_2@Au@TiO_2(SAT) microspheres decorated with Au nanoparticles(AuNPs) were prepared and incorporated into the photoanode with an optimized concentration gradientascent. The effects of SAT microspheres and the gradient-ascent architecture on the light absorption and the photoelectric conversion efficiency(PCE) of the dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs) were *** indicate that the introduction of SAT microspheres and the gradient-ascent architecture in the photoanode significantly enhance the light scattering and harvesting capability of the photoanode. The DSSC with the optimized SAT gradient-ascent photoanode has the maximum short circuit current density(J_(sc)) of 17.7 mA cm^(-2) and PCE of 7.75%, remarkably higher than those of the conventional DSSC by 23.7%and 28.0%, respectively. This significantly enhancement of the performance of the DSSC can be attributed to the excellent light reflection/scattering of SAT, the localized surface plasma resonance(LSPR) effect of AuNPs within the microspheres, and the gradient-ascent architecture of SAT microspheres inside the photoanode. This study demonstrates that the tri-synergies of the scattering of SAT microspheres, the LSPR of AuNPs and the gradient-ascent architecture can effectively improve the PCE of DSSC.

The corrosion behavior of low carbon steel in 0.1 M NaHCO_3+ 0.1 M NaCl solution with different dissolved oxygen concentrations was investigated with gravimetric tests and electrochemical *** show that the corrosion mass loss of steel is remarkably increased with the addition of chloride ion. In the initial stage, the carbon steel tends to active dissolution due to the dissolution effect of chloride ion on the oxide film; as a result, the corrosion potential maintains as low values. With the immersion time going by, the corrosion potential of the steel is promoted as a result of the accumulation of the corrosion products. However, the rust layer is loose and porous due to the deteriorating effect of chloride ion, which decreases the reduction resistance of oxygen. Meanwhile, the porous rust layer could be repaired by the depolarization of oxygen. Under the synergistic effect of chloride ion and oxygen, the corrosion of the steel is accelerated during the repeated process of dissolution and reparation of the oxide film.
