The tremendous public health and economic impact of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARSCoV-2), has become a huge challenge globally. There is increasing evidence that SARS-CoV-2 induces intestinal infections. Type Ⅲ interferon(IFN-λ) has an antiviral role in intestinal infection, with focused, long-lasting, and non-inflammatory characteristics. This review presents a summary of the structure of SARSCoV-2, including its invasion and immune escape mechanisms. Emphasis was placed on the gastrointestinal impact of SARS-CoV-2, including changes to the intestinal microbiome, activation of immune cells, and inflammatory *** also describe the comprehensive functions of IFN-λ in anti-enteric SARS-CoV-2 infection, and discuss the potential application of IFN-λ as a therapeutic agent for COVID-19 with intestinal symptoms.

Polymorphisms in the IFNL3/IL28B gene and hepatitis C: From adults to children

The purpose of the present review is to summarise the current knowledge on the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the interferon L3 (IFNL3) gene and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in children. Many studies in adults have demonstrated that genetic variation in IFNL3 is a strong predictor of the virological response in treatment-naive patients with HCV genotype 1 who were treated with Pegylated-IFN-α and ribavirin. Genetic variation in IFNL3 is also associated with the spontaneous clearance of HCV. Thus far, few paediatric studies have explored the association between variations in the IFNL3 gene and either spontaneous or treatment-induced clearance of HCV. The CC genotype of the rs12979860 SNP is associated with the spontaneous clearance of HCV in children independently of HCV genotype. Four paediatric studies have shown that both the CC genotype of the rs12979860 SNP and the TT genotype of the rs8099917 SNP are associated with the treatment-induced (IFN monotherapy and Pegylated-IFN-α and ribavirin association) clearance of HCV, while the rs12980275 SNP did not affect the virological response. The possible role of IFNL3 gene variation as a pre-treatment and on-treatment predictor of virological response in children is highly attractive but still undetermined. Further paediatric studies are needed to evaluate if testing for SNPs in IFNL3, either alone or together with other predictors of response to treatment, could be used to direct treatment strategies, including an avoidance of unnecessary protease inhibitor therapy and the duration of treatment.

Transmission of hepatitis C virus: Self-limiting hepatitis or chronic hepatitis?

It has been suggested that hepatitis C virus(HCV)is selectively transmitted to a new host as an infectious clone from multiple HCV variants(quasispecies)in the *** individuals with HCV infection develop chronic hepatitis,but approximately 15%-40%of them clear the virus spontaneously and the hepatitis is resolved in a self-limiting manner in the acute phase of *** difference in the outcome of acute hepatitis C is attributable to both viral characteristics and genetic regulation of *** particular,the evolutionary dynamics of the infecting virus and host genetic polymorphisms pertaining mainly to the immune system,including polymorphisms in the region of the Interleukin 28B gene encoding interferon-λ-3,are associated with susceptibility to HCV infection.
