This paper presents the case of one Sister School in the Canada-China Reciprocal Learning Project based on a belief that practice has significant value for the development of teachers’intercultural awareness and schools’intercultural communication *** paper focuses on one Shanghai school’s reciprocal learning experience,highlighting the content of intercultural communication,the areas of collaboration,the characteristics of collaboration,and the attitudes towards collaboration in the intercultural *** the backdrop of New Basic Education reform in China,I try to depict how a Sister School partnership guided by the principle of reciprocal learning motivates Chinese and Canadian teachers to work together across cultural differences in order to learn and develop in terms of theory and practice.I also discuss difficulties and challenges that have occurred in the process of intercultural *** the process,reciprocal learning is re-conceptualized and relived as part of our research endeavor.

intercultural communication language plays a crucial role in our global *** we are doing translation we are doing intercultural communication in a sense,so it is necessary for translators to have intercultural communication awareness and be sensitive to the cultural elements in *** the perspective of intercultural communication,this paper analyses the cultural elements in Chinese tourism material translation in terms of culturally-loaded words and terms,and presents certain translation techniques a translator can use to deal with culturally-loaded words in their translation.

Semiotics has shed much light on both communication studies and cultural studies,and thus informed the investigations into intercultural communication,an area increasingly concerned in academic *** paper incorporates our previous semiotic probes into intercultural communication,especially the semiotic model of the intercultural communication process,with the insights that have been recently highlighted in studies of edusemiotics and biosemiotics to further explore the detailed sign-relations embodied in intercultural communication *** on the conceptualizations of umwelt and semiosis and their interrelation which constitutes an umwelt-semiosis framework,we explore in depth the dynamic process of intercultural *** an analytic of the mutual affection between the communicator’s umwelt as the functional cultural background of the communicators and semiosis as the act of communication,we explain in detail the dynamicity by which communicators’culturally embedded manners of thinking and behaving cannot only affect,but also be affected by the process of intercultural ***,we indicate that such dynamicity can be consciously manipulated by communicators should we reconceptualize communication following a triadic viewpoint instead of the dualistic one that has dominated sociological studies.

Pragmatic Failure in intercultural communication

Starting from the conception of intercultural communication and culture,this article elaborates the communication essence and analyses the predictability of intercultural communication through illustrating factors affecting intercultural communication on the basis of comparing Chinese culture and English culture in the purpose of suggesting some effective strategies for Chinese EFL teachers in English teaching concerning intercultural communication.

Pragmatic Failure in Intercultural Communication

Culture plays a very important role in communication. It can help determine and guide communicative behavior. However, in intercultural situations, misunderstandings and miscommunications happen frequently because the behavior of participants is reflecting more divergent underlying communicative and socio-cultural norms. In other words, cultural differences often lead to pragmatic *** the most important dimension of cultural difference across the diverse cultures of the world is the relative emphasis on individualism and collectivism, this thesis analyzes the different manifestations of pragmatic failure in these two cultures from the perspective of Sociopragmatic Interactional Principles (SIPs). It is not hard to find out that collectivistic culture attaches more importance to SIPs;or, collectivistic culture has a wider range of SIPs than individualistic culture. To achieve the goal of being a competent intercultural communicator, the awareness of cultural differences is necessary to both language teachers and learners, especially those between collectivistic culture and individualistic culture. As the theory of SIPs is still new and needs to be implemented, there is still a long way to go.

This paper first examines the relationship of the components of communicative competence to culture, pointing out that strategic competence, unlike sociolinguistic or discourse competence, is not culture\|specific and therefore is supposed to play a more crucial role in intercultural communication. And then it discusses research on strategic competence, particularly the contributions it can make to our efforts to understand and improve intercultural communication. Some questions that further research should address are also raised. Finally it stresses the special significance of exploring strategic competence for studying intercultural communication and indicates implications that the exploration may have for second\| and foreign\|language teaching.

intercultural communication as one of the activities of the mankind should be coordinated and regulated by ethical roles; it is the essence of intercultural attitude. Establishing this ethic of intercultural communication can be completed either with the outer compulsive force such as international laws, WTO roles, etc that have to be obeyed passively, or through the active and self-conscious behaviors of the communicators with self-discipline so as to control and guide the process of intercultural communication. The latter is more worthy to be advocated in the world today, where a globalization process with multipolarization and pluralization as its characteristics is going on. In such a situation, the developmental tendency of continual intercultural communication requests communicators to assume the intercultural attitude for looking on state of affairs and solving problem. This attitude is conductive to forming ethic of intercultural communication and reflects this ethic in itself as well; it can bring up the rational intercultural communication to promote common development of world cultures. It consists of five basic elements： mutual respect, tolerance, cooperation, intercultural understanding and intercultural learning. These five elements make up of a whole of supplement each other.

With the increasingly rapid social development,collusion and integration of different culture around the world,legal translation also becomes an exceedingly important tool in exchanges of *** translation,in essence,is a non-negligible aspect of intercultural communication,because legal translation is not only a transfer process from one language to another language,but also a study process of various legal *** traditional researches about legal translation,most scholars only have a preference to pay more attention to the faithfulness and exactness of target language,but ignore the significance of cultural elements that are key limitations to the readiness of legal *** can take advantage of culture transfer,which is a strategy to avoid misunderstandings in process of legal translation for the intention of improving the quality of legal *** this paper,legal translation refers to translation between English legal texts and Chinese legal texts.
