The dinoflagellate Prorocentrum minimum is known to affect the normal physiological function of Exopalaemon carinicauda by inducing oxidative stress,apoptosis,and cellular *** study the effects of *** on the immune defense system of shrimp,*** were exposed to 5×10^(3)cells mL^(-1)and 5×10^(4)cells mL^(-1)of *** for 336 h in treatment groups,while *** cultured in filtered seawater was employed as *** total hemocyte counts(THC),hemocyanin concentration(HEM),and the activity of alkaline phosphatase(AKP)in hemolymph serum,as well as expressions of six immunity-related genes in hemocytes,hepatopancreases and gills were *** exposure of *** significantly reduced the THC,HEM concentration and AKP activity in hemolymph ***-related genes expressed differently in hemocytes,hepatopancreases and *** with the control group,the expressions of Crustin and pro PO in hemocytes were significantly up-regulated in the treatment groups,while the up-regulated expressions of LGBP,Lysozyme and Serpin were only found in the group exposed to 5×10^(4)cells mL^(-1)of *** the gills of *** exposed to ***,the down-regulation of ALF,proPO and Serpin,up-regulation of LGBP and Lysozyme,as well as unaffected Crustin were *** hepatopancreases,the up-regulated expressions of LGBP,Crustin,Lysozyme,Serpin and proPO(only in 5×10^(3)cells mL^(-1)of *** group)were found in the treatment *** exposure to *** for 336 h,shrimps were injected with Vibrio parahaemolyticus and *** results showed that the mortality rates of shrimp in the treatment groups were significantly increased with a dose-dependent effect,which suggests that exposure to *** may reduce the immunity of *** research indicates that hemocytes and hepatopancreases play important roles in protecting the shrimp immune response to harmful algae,while the protection effect of hemolymph serum

For the investigation of anti-infection immune response of Pseudosciaena crocea, 160 healthy fish samples were categorized into infected and control groups. Each individual fish in the infected group was injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) with 0.2 ml bacterial suspension of Vibrio alginolyticus in density of 2×107 CFU/ml, while each individual in the control group was injected i.p. with 0.2 ml sterile saline solution (0.85%). It was observed that the artificial injection of V. alginolyticus significantly increased the number of erythrocytes, leucocytes, lymphocytes in peripheral blood as well as peripheral serum antibacterial activity and antibody titer of large yellow croaker, and significantly reduced the number of peripheral blood granulocytes as compared with those in the control group. No significant difference in acid phosphytase and superoxide dismutase activity of serum was detected between the two groups. It is suggested that non-specific immune factors including leucocytes and anti-bacteria substance in peripheral blood played important role at the initial stage of infection, and specific immune factors such as antibody then played important role in response to anti-infection at the latter stage.

immune response to an indigenously developed r-Hepatitis B vaccine in mixed population: Study of an accelerated vaccination schedule

AIM: To establish the safety and efficacy of an indigenously developed r-hepatitis B vaccine using an accelerated schedule and to highlight the social awareness and commitment in preventing the spreading of hepatitis B virus infection. METHODS: The study was a multicentric, double blind, randomized (3:1) study using three doses of vaccine immunization schedule (20μg for those above 10 years old and 10 μg for those below 10 years old) on d 0, 30 and 60. One hundred and sixty-six subjects were enrolled (87 males and 76 females aged 5-35 years). The main outcome measure was assessment of immunogenicity and safety. RESULTS: A 100% seroconversion response was observed on the 30th d after the 1st injection in both the experimental groups. The sero-protection data reported a 41.2-65.6% response on the 30th d after the 1st injection and reached 100% on the 60th d. Descriptive statistical analysis showed a geometric mean titer value of 13.77 mIU/mL in the test (BEVAC) group and 10.95 mlU/mL in the commercial control (ENGERIX-B) group on the 30th d after the 1st injection. The response on the 60th d showed a geometric mean titre value (GMT) of 519.84 mlU/mL in the BEVAC group and 475.46 mlU/mL in the ENGERIX-B group. On the 90th d, the antibody titer response was observed to be 2627.58 mlU/mL in the BEVAC group and 2272.72 mlU/mL in the ENGERIX-B group. Two subjects in each group experienced pains at injection site after the first vaccination. A total of six subjects in both groups experienced a solicited adverse reaction, which included pains, swelling and redness at the injection site, three subjects in the group-B had a pain at the injection site after the third dose. No other serious adverse events occurred and no dose-related local or general symptoms were observed during the study. CONCLUSION: The vaccine is safe, efficacious and immunogenic in comparison with the well documented ENGERIX-B.

The gastric mucosa separates the underlying tissue from the vast array of antigens that traffic through the stomach lumen. While the extreme pH of this environment is essential in aiding the activation of enzymes and food digestion, it also renders the gastric epithelium free from bacterial colonization, with the exception of one important human pathogen, Hpylori. This bacterium has developed mechanisms to survive the harsh environment of the stomach, actively move through the mucosal layer, attach to the epithelium, evade immune responses, and achieve persistent colonization. While a hallmark of this infection is a marked inflammatory response with the infiltration of various immune cells into the infected gastric mucosa, the host immune response is unable to clear the infection and may actually contribute to the associated pathogenesis. Here, we review the host responses involved during infection with Hpylori and how they are influenced by this bacterium.

Effects of dietary supplementation of chitosan-oligosaccharides （COS） on the growth performance, immune response, stress resistance, and disease resistance of juvenile rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were studied. Four experimental diets containing 0, 20, 40, or 60 mg/kg COS （COSO, COS20, COS40, and COS60, respectively） were fed to juvenile rainbow trout （initial weight = 5.2 ± 0.3 g） for 8 weeks. By the end of the feeding trial, representative groups of fish from each dietary treatment were challenged with stressor （30 see air exposure） and pathogen exposure （intraperitoneal injection with Aeromonas hydrophila ）. Results showed that supplementation of COS in diets did not affect production performance and body composition of rainbow trout. However, fish fed the COS40 diet demonstrated improved phagocytic activities, respiratory burst activities and decreased serum cortisol level. Additionally, survival following A. hydrophila challenge was significant higher among fish fed the COS-supplemented feeds, although there was no difference based on the level of supplementation. The present study suggests that COS can be used as an immuno-stimulant in rainbow trout feeds

Pristine mesoporous carbon hollow spheres as safe adjuvants induce excellent Th2-biased immune response

The development of a safe and effective adjuvant that amplifies the immune response to an antigen is important for vaccine delivery. In this study, we developed pristine mesoporous carbon hollow spheres as high-capacity vaccine protein nanocarriers and safe adjuvants for boosting the immune response. Mono-dispersed invaginated mesostructured hollow carbon spheres （IMHCSs） have an average particle size of -200 nm, large pore size of 15 rim, and high pore volume of 2.85 cmB.g-1. IMHCSs exhibited a very high loading capacity （1,040 ~tg-mg-1） towards ovalbumin （OVA, a model antigen）, controlled OVA release behavior, excellent safety profile to normal cells, and high antigen delivery efficacy towards macrophages. In vivo immunization studies in mice demonstrated that OVA-loaded IMHCSs induced a 3-fold higher IgG response compared to a traditional adjuvant QuilA used in veterinary vaccine research. OVA delivered by IMHCSs induced a higher IgG1 concentration than IgG2a, indicating a T-helper 2 （Th2）-polarized response. Interferon-y and interleukin-4 concentration analysis revealed both T-helper 1 （Thl） and Th2 immune responses induced by OVA- loaded IMHCSs. IMHCSs are safer adjuvants than QuilA. Our study revealed that pure IMHCSs without further functionalization can be used as a safe adjuvant for promoting Th2-biased immune responses for vaccine delivery.
