hydroquinone(HQ)poses immeasurable risk to human health and the natural environment on the grounds of high toxicity of organic phenolic compounds.Herein,an innovative electrochemical sensor based on two-dimensional nickel molybdate nanowires(NiMoO_(4)NWs)is constructed for the ultra-sensitive determination of HQ,which can provide useful reference for the human health and environment protection.Two-dimensional NiMoO_(4)NWs are prepared successfully through a facile hydrothermal reaction and annealing process.The obtained two-dimensional NiMoO_(4)NWs are characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),high-resolution TEM(HRTEM),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS)mapping and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The accurate contents of Ni and Mo have been characterized by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES),confirming that the lower content of the nickel in NiMoO_(4)NWs possesses the higher catalytic activity of HQ.Under the optimized conditions,the constructed HQ sensor exhibits satisfactory electrocatalytic activity with a low detection limit of 0.0355μmol/L(S/N=3),a wide linear range of 0.05-4600μmol/L and sensitivity of 170.064μA/(mmol cm^(2)).The sensor has been successfully applied to the detection of HQ in rainwater,tap water,domestic sewage and drinking water samples with satisfactory recovery.At the same time,this sensor has excellent reproducibility,selectivity,and stability.The constructed sensor has potential practical application value and broad application prospect in human health and environmental monitoring.

Objective To explore the toxicological mechanism of hydroquinone in human bronchial epithelial cells and to investigate whether DNA polymerase beta is involved in protecting cells from damage caused by hydroquinone. Methods DNA polymerase beta knock-down cell line was established via RNA interference as an experimental group. Normal human bronchial epithelial cells and cells transfected with the empty vector of pEGFP-C1 were used as controls. Cells were treated with different concentrations of hydroquinone （ranged from 10 μmol/L to 120 μmol/L） for 4 hours. MTT assay and Comet assay [single-cell gel electrophoresis （SCGE）] were performed respectively to detect the toxicity of hydroquinone. Results assay showed that DNA polymerase beta knock-down cells treated with different concentrations of hydroquinone had a lower absorbance value at 490 nm than the control cells in a dose-dependant manner. Comet assay revealed that different concentrations of hydroquinone caused more severe DNA damage in DNA polymerase beta knock-down cell line than in control cells and there was no significant difference in the two control groups. Conclusions hydroquinone has significant toxicity to human bronchial epithelial cells and causes DNA damage. DNA polymerase beta knock-down cell line appears more sensitive to hydroquinone than the control cells. The results suggest that DNA polymerase beta is involved in protecting cells from damage caused by hydroquinone.

Bis[（perfluoroalkyl）sulfonyl]imides [HN（SO2Rf）2, and Rf represents the perfluorinated alkyl group] supported on MCM-41 were synthesized and characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TGA and N2-adsorption techniques. The supported catalysts, HN（SO2Rf）2/MCM-41, were used as the catalysts for the tert-butylafion of hydroquinone （HQ） with tert-butyl alcohol （TBA） in the liquid phase. A high yield （52.0%） of 2-tert-butyl hydroquinone （TBHQ） could be obtained in the presence of 5 tool% HN（SO2C4F9）2/MCM-41 under the optimized reaction conditions and the heterogeneous catalyst could be recycled at least 6 times without substantial loss of activity.

An electrochemical sensor for determination of hydroquinone （HQ） and catechol （CC） was developed using Au nanoparticles （AuNPs） fabricated on reduced graphene oxide/polyimide （PIIRGO） film by electroless deposition. The electrochemical behaviors of HQ and CC at PIIRGO-AuNPs electrode were investigated by cyclic voltammetry （CV） and differential pulse voltammetry （DPV）. Under the optimized condition, the current responses at PI/RGO-AuNPs electrode were linear over ranges from 1 to 654 mol/L for HQ and from 2 to 1289 mol/L for CC, with the detection limits of 0.09 and 0.2 mollL, respectively. The proposed electrode exhibited good reproducibility, stability and selectivity. In addition, the proposed electrode was successfully applied in the determination of HQ and CC in tap water and the Yellow River samples.

The aerial oxidation kinetics of hydroquinone in a freshly prepared developer solution at different temperatures and pHs has been studied. The activation parameters, Ea, ΔG#, ΔS#, ΔH# and enthalpy of formation of activated complex, ΔH0f(X# ), are determined. The large negative value of free energy of activation ΔG# proves that hydroquinone extremely tends to be oxidized by air at optimum temperature (20°C and optimum pH (10.5) and converts to the activated complex semiquinone. It was also found that if the pH of the developer solution is increased from 9.3 to 10.5 the reaction rate will increase by a factor of 2.

The title inclusion complex with the formula [(C42H70O35)2 · (C6O2H6)3 · (H2O)21.2(CH3OH)2] has been crystallized and characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group P1, with a =1.5500 (1), b =1.5536(1), c = 1.8246(1) nm, α = 113.17(2), β = 99.12(2), γ=103.37(3)? V = 3.7739(4) nm3, Z = 1; Dc =1.343 g/cm3, μ = 0.124 mm-1, F(000) = 1594, R = 0.0795 and S = 0.9639. Two independent molecules of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) form a 'head-to-head' dimer. The fairly important factor of the position and stability of the guest in the host cavity is the solvation of the polar group of the guest.

hydroquinone(HQ)is an phenolic aromatic compound used in cosmetic medicine as skin lightening material since long time ago.Accordingly the several pathological conditions that observed,the use of HQ for this purpose was recently contraindicated.The commonly noted health problem associated with hydroquinone use was contact dermatitis.The present study was designed and conducted to determine the HQ presence and concentrations in ten samples of skin lightening cosmetics available in the local market.GC-MS analysis was employed for detection of HQ qualitatively while HPLC analysis was used as a quantitative analysis for determination of the HQ concentrations in each sample.The results obtained indicated that the overall range of HQ levels in all respected samples ranged from 0.0039%to 0.14%.

hydroquinone is potentially carcinogenic and is known to be a skin and respiratory irritant.hydroquinone is carcinogenic it has been banned in some countries because of fears of a cancer risk[1,2].Animal studies have shown that topically applied retinoic acid can be photocarcinogenic[3].The aim of this study was qualitative and quantitative determination of hydroquinone and retinoic acid contents in facial whitening creams by colour reaction tests,FT-IR after TLC separation and HPLC.
