The role of nurses in the prevention of cervical cancer: Cervical screening, an unkept promise by the majority of women in Nigeria

Cervical cancer remains a major public health problem accounting for continuous female death in developing *** cancer is the second most common cancer in women globally with an estimated number of 500,000 new cases of cervical cancer and 273,000 mortalities *** screening is the best cancer screening test in the history of medicine and most cost-effective of all medical screening *** study review aimed to highlight methods of cervical cancer prevention,identify the uptake of cervical screening among women,and explain the role of nurses in uptake of cervical *** cancer is preventable and easily treatable if it is detected at early stages,but poor information on prevention and access to screening and treatment contributes to 90%of *** the developing countries such as Nigeria,a large proportion of cervical cancers are diagnosed in advanced stages,with poor rates of *** three main methods for preventing cervical cancer are through primary prevention(human papillomavirus vaccination and health education),secondary prevention(cervical screening,early detection of precancerous lesions,and treatment),and tertiary prevention(measures to slow the progression or recurrence,surgical removal,radiotherapy,and chemotherapy).Nurses can help improve the acceptability of this neglected promise by focusing on health education on cervical screening and vaccination in prenatal clinics and infant welfare clinics where there are more *** of cyberspace could also serve as a successful and popular platform for this health *** nurses/midwives must preach and fervently work toward the WHO 90–70–90 plan for eradicating cervical cancer.

Few successful strategies address lifestyle and behavior change towards food and exercise among underserved *** spend the majority of their day in a school setting,providing an optimal environment to target behavior change with limited *** This school-based pilot study was a collaborative effort among professionals from a state university,a county department of health,a county school system,and a nearby regional public hospital to improve knowledge,intentions,and self-efficacy about nutrition and physical activity among underserved *** Thirty-three,fifth grade students were recruited from a low socioeconomic elementary school(Mean=10.55±0.56 years).Students were randomly assigned to a treatment(n=19),or control group(n=14)for 8 *** per week,the treatment group received 30 min of nutritional advice,and completed 30 min of functional *** and body composition assessments were made,and eating and physical activity behaviors were recorded using the CATCH Kids Club After-School Student Questionnaire at baseline,and at the end of week 8.A 2-way repeated-measure analysis of variance and paired-t tests with Bonferroni adjustments were used to analyze any *** Physical activity,intentions,and knowledge for a healthy nutrition behavior increased significantly in the treatment ***,causal inferences could not be made at this *** This public sector partnership demonstrated that a simple school-based intervention can play a role in healthy choices among underserved children.

Chinese NGOs in action against HIV/AIDS

Chinese nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) have played a significant role in the battle against AIDS in the People’s Republic of China. This article provides a brief overview of the structure of these organizations, as well as an analysis of their principle accomplishments. Of great significance in this analysis is the fact that Chinese NGOs have effectively dealt with many sensitive health education areas that government authorities have felt reluctant to handle directly. As such, they have provided an indispensable component in the HIV/AIDS prevention and control calculus on the mainland.

Self-monitoring of blood glucose in type 2 diabetic patients in China：current status and influential factors

Background Self-monitoring of blood glucose （SMBG） by individuals with type 2 diabetes （T2D） is crucial for long-term health,yet numerous cultural,economic and health factors can reduce *** studies on SMBG adherence have come out of the US and Europe,and their relevance to Asia is *** aims of the present study were to assess the current state of SMBG in China and analyze demographic and diabetes-related characteristics that may influence *** In this multi-center,cross-sectional study,5 953 individuals with T2D from 50 medical centers in 29 provinces across China filled out a standardized questionnaire that requested information on demographic characteristics,education level,occupation,income,lifestyle risk factors,duration of diabetes,chronic complications,and frequency of *** were also asked whether their glycosylated hemoglobin （HbA1c） had been checked in the past 6 *** most recent values for fasting plasma glucose,2-hour postprandial blood glucose and HbA1c were recovered from medical *** Only 1 130 respondents （18.98％） performed SMBG with the recommended frequency,while 4 823 （81.02％） did *** fact,nearly 2 105 （35.36％） reported never performing *** the subset of 3 661 individuals on insulin therapy,only 266 （7.27％） performed SMBG at least once a day,while 1 210 （33.05％） never performed *** contrast,895 of 2 292 individuals （39.05％） on diet/exercise therapy or oral hypoglycemic therapy never performed *** Logistic regression identified several factors associated with SMBG adherence：female gender,higher education level,higher income,longer T2D duration and education about *** SMBG adherence in our Chinese population with T2D was less frequent than that in developed *** factors influence SMBG adherence：gender,education level,income,T2D duration,therapy regimen and exposure to education about SMBG.

An HIV/AIDS intervention programme with Buddhist aid in Yunnan Province

Background The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Chinese ethnic minorities is an important component of China＇s AIDS issues. In this study, we launched an intervention programme in Yunnan Province of China, where the Dai people live, to carry out the community-based HIV/AIDS health education and behavioral interventions on ordinary Dai farmers. The Dai people believe in Theravada Buddhism. Methods Four rural communities were randomly divided into two groups. In one group （Buddhist group）, HIV/AIDS health education and behavioral intervention were carried out by monks. The other group （women group） was instructed by women volunteers. The intervention continued for one year and the data were collected before and after the intervention project. Results In the Buddhist group, the villagers＇ AIDS related knowledge score was boosted from 3.11 to 3.65 （P 〈0.001）, and some indices of the villagers＇ behavior using condoms improved after the intervention. But this improvement was poorer than that in the women group. In the Buddhist group, the villager＇s attitude score towards the people living with HIV and AIDS （PLWHA） also increased significantly from 1.51 to 2.16 （P〈0.001）. Conclusion The results suggested that the Buddhist organization has limited success in promoting the use of condoms but plays an important role in eliminating HIV/AIDS related discrimination.

Using Sensewear armband and diet journal to promote adolescents' energy balance knowledge and motivation

Purpose： Educating adolescents about energy balance （EB） is essential for effective weight control. This study utilized the Sensewear （SWA） armband and a diet journal to promote adolescents＇ EB knowledge and motivation. Methods： Ninety sixth graders were randomly assigned into the experimental group （n = 46） who utilized SWA and diet journal for 7 consecutive days or the control group （n = 44） who did not. Both groups were pre- and post-measured on EB knowledge, situational interest, and weight. The experimental group was tracked on motivation effort, energy expenditure （EE）, and energy intake （EI）. Results： EB knowledge significantly increased and situational interest remained stable （except for total interest and enjoyment） over time, but these changes did not favor the experimental group. Situational interest and motivation effort were correlated with EE, EI, and/or EB. Conclusion： Tracking EB using the SWA and diet journal is motivating but has limited efficacy in promoting adolescents＇ EB knowledge. Using these two tools as educational technology in conjunction with a focused, systematic, and educational approach has the potential to leverage adolescents＇ EB knowledge, motivation, as well as behaviors for living an energy-balanced lifestyle.

Review of Nurses’ Knowledge of Delirium, Dementia and Depressions (3Ds): Systematic Literature Review

This paper aims at reviewing literature on nurses’ knowledge of delirium, dementia and depression (3Ds) which are rapidly increasing worldwide as the population ages, and to identify interventions that have shown effectiveness in improving nurses’ knowledge level of these diseases. Nurses’ knowledge of delirium, dementia and depression is essential to providing quality patient care. To access the literature, online databases including Medline (OVID), CINAHL (EBSCO), Nursing and Allied health Source (ProQuest), and health and Medicine (ProQuest), in addition to Google scholar search engine, were searched using key words “delirium”, “dementia”, “depression”, “nurse*”, “knowledge” and their alternative words. Overall, 20 articles were found to meet the criteria for inclusion in the review. The study found that nurses’ knowledge of the 3Ds was generally low, and they were not particularly able to differentiate between the three diseases. It is important that health care systems are adequately resourced to meet this growing challenge. Nurses should receive appropriate training about the 3Ds, and their knowledge be reinforced through continuing education.

health Awareness: A Significant Factor in Chronic Diseases Prevention and Access to Care

health literacy and awareness are essential strategies in promoting global health and improving access to care. While seen as an essential tool for promoting population health awareness to improve early detection and treatment of chronic diseases, it is yet to be emphasized in most African countries. health literacy is an essential practice to promote chronic disease prevention and reduce the growing threat to population health. Incidences and mortalities from chronic diseases commonly arise from limited knowledge of the causative risk factors and access to health facilities. Without knowledge about causes, health impacts, and available health services, people continue to indulge in the habits that worsen their health conditions and fail to access care timely. By using health literacy and awareness as a tool for chronic disease prevention, healthcare professionals will develop strategic health awareness programs that fit the socio-demographics of the population they serve. This article explored the significant role health awareness occupies in individual and community health prevention through health promotion and education. It reviewed the concept and dimensions of chronic disease prevention, cultural beliefs and impact on chronic diseases, gaps created by low health literacy, and the significance of health literacy in disease prevention and health promotion. Furthermore, it recommends that health systems and local communities form partnerships to address common and emerging health problems, and health systems should be properly funded.

Self-care actions for the maintenance of the arteriovenous fistula:An integrative review

Objective:To identify self-care actions for the maintenance of arteriovenous fistula of renal ***:An integrative review study was conducted and literature were searched in Medline/PubMed,Scopus,CINAHL LILACS,BDENF and SciELO Library databases using the descriptors chronic renal insufficiency,arteriovenous fistula,self-care,and *** inclusion criteria were that the documents be written in Portuguese,English,and Spanish,full text available,published in the last five years,and that they address the research *** articles,theses,dissertations,editorials of nonscientific journals,and research studies that did not follow the necessary methodological rigor were *** were analyzed with the IRAMUJTEQ ***:Fifteen articles were selected and comprised the final *** classes of self-care actions emerged from the text segments analysis and grouped into three categories:(1)Self-care actions that maintain the arteriovenous fistula;(2)Self-care actions for the prevention and the monitoring of complications with arteriovenous fistula;(3)Self-care actions directed at the perioperative period of arteriovenous fistula ***:The results allowed us to identify important care for the maintenance of arteriovenous fistula *** self-care actions identified in this study can guide a nursing care policy for implementation with protocols that help identify problems related to self-care actions and,thus,subsidize the development of actions aimed at the renal ***,more studies with high levels of evidence that identify self-care actions with arteriovenous fistula and the factors involved in its implementation are needed.
