CrN thin films,which have been used as hard coating materials for cutting tools,plastic metal molds and friction parts,exhibit high hardness,excellent oxidation resistance and chemical ***,multi-component Cr-Me-N coatings,Me is metal elements such as Al,Si,have been explored in order to improve the properties of CrN *** only metal addition but also nonmetal addition to CrN coatings,the hardness and oxidation resistance improved by substitution of oxygen atoms for nitrogen atoms in CrN has been reported [1].Cr（N,O） is thought to be a material with O atoms substituted for some of the N atoms of CrN,in other words,it is believed to be a solid solution of CrN and CrO,although CrO is an unstable material at standard state and its existence has not been *** anticipate that it is possible to synthesis Cr-Me-N-O（Me;Mg,Cu,Mn,Ni and Cu） phase,which are dissolving the MeO into CrN in order to stabilize the chemical bonding of Cr-O,and the hardness of Cr-Me-N-O coatings is harder than Cr-Me-N and Cr-N-O *** films were deposited by the irradiation of Nd:YAG（λ = 355 nm） laser beam onto a *** disk with a diameter of 50 mm of 99 % pure Cr2N and sectored sheets of metal Me were used as the ***-crystal（100）-oriented silicon was used for *** substrate temperature was controlled at 500°*** the deposition,the chamber was evacuated to 2x10-6 Torr using rotary and *** were carried o0u.2t Taot r trh.e ammonia pressure（pNH3） of Figure 1 shows XRD patterns of the Cr-Mg-N-O thin films *** structure of main phase of all thin films was found to be B1（NaCl type） structure.

Titanium alloys are poor in wear resistance and it is not suitable under sliding conditions even with lubrication because ofits severe adhesive wear *** surface modifications through texturing and surface coating were used to enhance the surfaceproperties of the titanium alloy *** and wear resistant coatings such as TiAlN and AlCrN were applied over texturedtitanium alloy surfaces with chromium as *** improve the friction and wear resisting performance of hard coatings further,solid lubricant,molybdenum disulphide(MoS2),was deposited on dimples made over hard *** sliding weartests were performed with pin on disc contact geometry,to evaluate the tribological performance of coated *** tests wereperformed under three different normal loads for a period of40min at sliding velocity of2m/*** tribological behaviours ofmulti-layer coatings such as coating structure,friction coefficient and specific wear rate were investigated and *** lowerfriction coefficient of approximately0.1was found at the early sliding stage,which reduces the material transfer and increases thewear ***,the friction coefficient increased to high values after MoS2coating was partially removed,substrate was stillprotected against wear by underlying hard composite layer.

The increasing complexity of modern functional materials leads to the demandof a cost efficient tool for the development of new products. One possible approach to this questionis the adaptation of combinatorial methods to the specific requirements of materials *** methods, originally developed for the pharmaceutical industry, have recently been applied tothe screening of superconductive, magnetoresistant and photoluminescent materials. The principle ofthese combinatorial approaches is the deposition of large materials libraries in one processcombined with fast methods for the determination of the resulting properties. In this paper, thedeposition and characterization of laterally graded materials libraries (composition spread) ispresented. The films have been deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering, using two or threemetallic targets at a low angle to the substrate surface as well as a system of apertures. Toillustrate the advantages of combinatorial approaches for the development of advanced materials, themulticomponent metastable hardcoatings (Ti,Al)N and Ti-Al-Si-N are discussed with special emphasison the relations between structure and composition on the one hand and the oxidation resistance ofthese coatings on the other. The results illustrate that the composition spread approach is apowerful and cost efficient tool for the development and optimization of new multicomponentfunctional materials.

A new laser-plasma deposition method has been developed for the plasma chemical deposition of hard silicon carbonitride coatings on stainless steel substrates from the hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) Si2NH(CH3)6 vapor in a high-speed Ar and Ar + 10 vol.% He gas stream at the HMDS gas flow activation after the laser beam focus. The method allows depositing silicon carbonitride coatings at the rate of 0.4 - 1.2 μm·min-1, i.e. ~2 times higher than that at introducing HMDS in the laser beam focus zone. The properties of the prepared coatings have been studied by the methods of IR and Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, nanoindentation and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Studying the film structure with the use of XRD showed that the prepared silicon carbonitride coatings are X-ray amorphous. It has been found that the coating deposition rate and the structure of coatings depend on the process parameters: HMDS flow rate and plasma-generating gas (argon or (Ar + He).
