This paper focuses on design of smooth bore gun tube according to the interior ballistics data. The main contents are included as follows: The first, theory and principle about the barrel component and the design of gun tube are discussed. Interior ballistics curves, chamber requirements, bore, rifling, temperature distribution, design pressure, strength requirements, equivalent stress, pressure stresses, shrinkage stresses, thermal stresses, special applications for artillery tube analyses, gun tube material and manufacturing procedures are briefly discussed in this section. The second, calculation and construction of gun tube design according to the interior ballistics data are submitted. The third, solid model of gun tube is constructed according to the calculated data and finite element model analysis is done by I-DEAS engineering simulation software. After modeling and analyzing, these results are analyzed in detail, especially for the strength requirement of gun tube.

This paper aims at establishing a model to calculate the residual stresses and strains in the composite material barrel and analyzing the effect of some factors such as the volume fractions of the composites, the change of the temperature during the curing process, the fiber tension and the winding angles during the winding process. The lay-by-lay modelling technique which is better than other theories applied in the composite material structures is used in the model. Raissner-correction theory which is based on the Kirchhoff-Love suppose is used to calculate the thermal residual stresses and strains, and at the same time the winding angles and the volume fractions of the composite material structures are also considered. According to the theory of cylinder shell, the model gives a set of formulations to compute the residual stresses and strains caused by the winding tension and the tension-decrease change during the manufacturing process. A computer program is developed to simulate the residual stresses and strains in the composite material barrel, and the flow charts are also given. According to the values of the residual stresses and strains, we can select reasonable operating conditions and working parameters during the manufacturing process to improve the strength of the composite material barrel.
