From a base material of conductive polymer(poly-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate),PEDOT:PSS),a flexible and high-conductivity(as low as 45Ω/sq)transparent electrode was fabricated on polydimethylsiloxane elastomer by an acid treatment and transfer process.Combined with the D-sorbitol-doped PEDOT:PSS electric glue,we successfully demonstrated a vacuum-free and ambient lamination fabrication process for semi-transparent perovskite solar cells using triple cation Cs0.05(MA0.17FA0.83)0.95Pb(I0.83Br0.17)3perovskite.By this manufacturing-friendly lamination process,we fabricated semitransparent perovskite solar cell devices with power conversion efficiencies up to 16.4%and variable transparencies.

Spinal cord injury is a very common pathological event that has devastating functional consequences in patients. In recent years, several research groups are trying to find an effective therapy that could be applied in clinical practice. In this study, we analyzed the combination of different strategies as a potential therapy for spinal cord injury. Immunization with neural derived peptides(INDP), inhibition of glial scar formation(dipyridyl: DPY), as well as the use of biocompatible matrix(fibrin glue: FG) impregnated with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) were combined and then its beneficial effects were evaluated in the induction of neuroprotection and neuroregeneration after acute SCI. Sprague-Dawley female rats were subjected to a moderate spinal cord injury and then randomly allocated into five groups: 1) phosphate buffered saline; 2) DPY; 3) INDP + DPY; 4) DPY+ FG; 5) INDP + DPY + FG + MSCs. In all rats, intervention was performed 72 hours after spinal cord injury. Locomotor and sensibility recovery was assessed in all rats. At 60 days after treatment, histological examinations of the spinal cord(hematoxylin-eosin and Bielschowsky staining) were performed. Our results showed that the combination therapy(DPY+ INDP + FG+ MSCs) was the best strategy to promote motor and sensibility recovery. In addition, significant increases in tissue preservation and axonal density were observed in the combination therapy group. Findings from this study suggest that the combination theapy(DPY+ INDP + FG + MSCs) exhibits potential effects on the protection and regeneration of neural tissue after acute spinal cord injury. All procedures were approved by the Animal Bioethics and Welfare Committee(approval No. 178544; CSNBTBIBAJ 090812960)on August 15, 2016.

Improving the closure effect of surgical suture for repair of annulus fibrosus defects remains an unsolved problem.A new type of porcine fibrin glue was reported for the repair of annulus fibrous defects in sheep models in this study.Continuous axial loading test showed that this glue could effectively improve the closure effect of surgical suture for annulus fibrous defect.Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the lumbar spine confirmed that,compared with nonfibrin glue treated intervertebral discs,it contributed to preservation of the nucleus pulposus and maintained the physiological hydration of the intervertebral discs.Moreover,histomorphology evaluation showed that the porcine fibrin glue could partially reverse degeneration of the injured intervertebral discs.Taken together,porcine fibrin glue can effectively enhance the closure effect of surgical suture on annulus fibrosus,improve the repair effect and slow down the degeneration of the intervertebral disc,and provide a potential therapeutic strategy for degenerative intervertebral disc disease.

Integrated water quantity and quality simulations have become a popular tool in investigations on global water crisis.For integrated and complex models,conventional uncertainty estimations focus on the uncertainties of individual modules,e.g.,module parameters and structures,and do not consider the uncertainties propagated from interconnected modules.Therefore,this study investigated all the uncertainties of integrated water system simulations using the glue(i.e.,generalized likelihood uncertainty estimation)method,including uncertainties associated with individual modules,propagated uncertainties associated with interconnected modules,and their combinations.The changes in both acceptability thresholds of glue and the uncertainty estimation results were also investigated for different fixed percentages of total number of iterations(100000).Water quantity and quality variables(i.e.,runoff and ammonium nitrogen)were selected for the case study.The results showed that module uncertainty did not affect the runoff simulation performance,but remarkably weakened the water quality responses as the fixed percentage increased during calibration and validation periods.The propagated uncertainty from hydrological modules could not be ignored for water quality simulations,particularly during validation.The combination of module and propagated uncertainties further weakened the water quality simulation performance.The uncertainty intervals became wider owing to an increase in the fixed percentages and introduction of more uncertainty sources.Moreover,the acceptability threshold had a negative nonlinear relationship with the fixed percentage.The fixed percentages(20.0%-30.0%)were proposed as the acceptability thresholds owing to the satisfactory simulation performance and noticeably reduced uncertainty intervals they produced.This study provided methodological foundations for estimating multiple uncertainty sources of integrated water system models.

The use of seaweed glue(SEG)as a novel polymer depressant for the separation of chalcopyrite from galena with butyl xanthate(BX)as a collector was studied through microflotation experiments.Contact angle,adsorption,dynamic potential,and infrared spectral analyses were conducted to clarify the mechanism underlying the action of SEG on minerals.The results of microflotation experiments indicated that chalcopyrite could be selectively separated from galena by using a SEG depressant concentration of 15 mg·L^-1,BX concentration of 10 mg·L^-1,and methyl isobutyl carbinol concentration of 8.5 mg·L^-1 at pH 8.0.A Cu concentrate with a grading of 23.68wt% was obtained at a recovery rate of 81.52% from mixed minerals with 8.29wt% Cu content.Contact angle analysis showed that the effect of SEG on the wettability of galena was stronger than that on the wettability of chalcopyrite.Adsorption,zeta potential,and FT-IR spectral analyses revealed that SEG and BX were coadsorbed on the surfaces of galena.SEG depressed galena by covering xanthate ions in the functional groups of-COO and mainly underwent weak physisorption on chalcopyrite.These mechanisms account for the ability of SEG to depress galena effectively while enabling chalcopyrite flotation.

Rational design of a robust carbon matrix has a profound impact on the performance of flexible/wearable lithium/sulfur batteries.Herein,we demonstrate a freestanding three-dimensional super-aligned carbon nanotube (SACNT) matrix reinforced with a multi-functionalized carbon coating for flexible,high-areal sulfur loading cathode.By employing the sulfur/nitrogen co-doped carbon (SNC)"glue",the joints in the SACNT scaffold are tightly welded together so that the overall mechanical strength of the electrode is significantly enhanced to withstand the repeated bending as well as the volume change during operation.The SNC also shows intriguing catalytic effect that lowers the energy barrier of Li ion transport,propelling a superior redox conversion efficiency.The resulting binder-free and current collector-free sulfur cathode exhibits a high reversible capacity of 1,079 mAh·g^-1 at 1 C,a high-rate capacity of ~ 800 mAh·g^-1 at 5 C,and an average capacity decay rate of 0.037% per cycle at 2 C for 1,500 cycles.Impressively,a large-areal flexible Li/S pouch cell based on such mechanically robust cathode exhibits excellent capacity retention under arbitrary bending conditions.With a high areal sulfur loading of 7 mg·cm^-2,the large-areal flexible cathode delivers an outstanding areal capacity of 6.3 mAh·cm^-2 at 0.5 C (5.86 mA·cm^-2),showing its promise for realizing practical high energy density flexible Li/S batteries.

Association of asymptomatic otitis media with effusion in patients with adenoid hypertrophy

Objective: Clinical symptoms of otitis media with effusion are rarely brought forward to the guardians of young children who the disease is most prevalent in. This often leads to poor scholastic performances and difficult social interactions. The objective of this study was to identify asymptomatic cases of otitis media with effusion present in individuals with adenoid hypertrophy. Material and Methods: In a cross sectional study advocated in Justice K.S.Hegde Hospital, Karnataka India we evaluated one hundred patients above the age of three from August 2016 to December 2017. Candidates who presented with an adenoid nasopharyngeal ratio of more than 0.5 were selected for the study. Individuals who complained of otological symptoms were not considered for the study. Patients cleared of other pathological otological conditions were underwent audiological evaluation with pure tone audiometry and tympanometry for evaluating the middle ear status and hearing loss. Results: The study showed a total of 36% of patients evaluated presented with asymptomatic otitis media with effusion. In candidates who presented with a bilateral B tympanogram, 40% had significant conductive hearing loss of more than 25dB. Conclusion: An objective test such as impedance audiometry in all patients with adenoid hypertrophy would aid in the diagnosis of fluid in the middle ear, so that timely intervention can be done and possible complications be averted.

Uncertainty analysis of hydrological modeling in a tropicalarea using different algorithms

Hydrological modeling outputs are subject to uncertainty resulting from different sources of errors (e.g., error in input data, model structure, and model parameters), making quantification of uncertainty in hydrological modeling imperative and meant to improve reliability of modeling results. The uncertainty analysis must solve difficulties in calibration of hydrological models, which further increase in areas with data scarcity. The purpose of this study is to apply four uncertainty analysis algorithms to a semi-distributed hydrological model, quantifying different source of uncertainties (especially parameter uncertainty) and evaluate their performance. In this study, the Soil and Water Assessment Tools (SWAT) eco-hydrological model was implemented for the watershed in the center of Vietnam. The sensitivity of parameters was analyzed, and the model was calibrated. The uncertainty analysis for the hydrological model was conducted based on four algorithms: Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (glue), Sequential Uncertainty Fitting (SUFI), Parameter Solution method (ParaSol) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The performance of the algorithms was compared using P-factor and Rfactor, coefficient of determination (R2), the Nash Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency (NSE) and Percent Bias (PBIAS). The results showed the high performance of SUFI and PSO with P-factor>0.83, R-factor 0.91, NSE>0.89, and 0.18<0.32. Hence, we would suggest to use SUFI-2 initially to set the parameter ranges, and further use PSO for final analysis. Indeed, the uncertainty analysis must be accounted when the outcomes of the model use for policy or management decisions.

Platelet concentrates(PC) [platelet-rich plasma(PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin(PRF)] are frequently used for surgical procedures in medical and dental fields,particularly in oral and maxillofacial surgery,plastic surgery and sports medicine.The objective of all these technologies is to extract all the elements from a blood sample that could be used to improve healing and promote tissue regeneration.Although leukocyte rich and leukocyte poor PRP's have their own place in literature,the importance of non-platelet components in a platelet concentrate remains a mystery.PC have come a long way since its first appearance in 1954 to the T-PRF,A-PRF and i-PRF introduced recently.These PC find varied applications successfully in periodontics and implant dentistry as well.However,the technique of preparation,standing time,transfer process,temperature of centrifuge,vibration,etc.,are the various factors for the mixed results reported in the literature.Until the introduction of a proper classification of terminologies,the PC were known by different names in different countries and by different commercial companies which also created a lot of confusion.This review intends to clarify all these confusion by briefing the exact evolution of PC,their preparation techniques,recent advances and their various clinical and technical aspects and applications.
