Spartina alterniflora is a foreign introduced species and has far-reaching effects on salt marsh ecosystems, particularly on the biogeochemical cycle of heavy metals. To ascertain whether the invasive plant Spartina alterniflora Loisel is a source of metals in the environment, we determined the bimonthly concentrations of heavy metals, chromium(Cr), lead(Pb), copper(Cu), zinc(Zn),and manganese(Mn), in the roots, stems, and leaves of S. alterniflora from a typical semidiurnal tidal zone in the coastal area of northern Jiangsu Province, China. Based on the measurements, we calculated annual metal primary accumulation and output. To calculate the annual output of heavy metals from S. alterniflora, a new method that calculates the annual rate of biomass loss and decomposition was developed. The annual primary accumulation of Cr, Pb, Cu, Zn, and Mn was 19.08, 84.19, 63.74, 442.58, and774.66 mg m^(-2), respectively, and the annual output from S. alterniflora to the surrounding environment was 4.01, 18.09, 14.00, 97.11,and 164.28 mg m^(-2), respectively. Spartina alterniflora only provides temporary storage, and its absorption of heavy metals could be used to remediate contaminated soil and for phytomining. The heavy metals released by S. alterniflora to the environment cannot be ignored; thus, S. alterniflora should be considered a source of metal contamination. Therefore, when we evaluate the remarkable ability of certain plant species to concentrate metals in their tissues, the balance between heavy metal accumulation and output should be considered.

The 48-h straight-hinge larvae of Argopecten irradians were exposed for 9 days to various concentrations of zinc in seawater. The growth rate of larvae in the 50 ppb Zn mediums was 77% that of the controls, and nearly zero in the 200 ppb Zn mediums. A progressive decrease in growth and increase in larval deformity and mortality was observed with increasing zinc concentrations from 50 to 200 ppb. 50 and 100 ppb Zn resulted in delayed development of eye spot and metamorphosis and reduced numbers of larvae at both stages. All larvae subjected to higher zinc concentrations died before attaining the eye-spot stage. The zinc concentrations which caused 50% reduction in growth (G C50)and 50% mortality (LC 50)were 109 and 120 ppb respectively. Growing in the medium with 100 ppb Zn, the larvae fed with Isochysis galbana cultured in a medium with 100 ppb Zn showed more suppressed growth and development than those fed with nonnal food. Objective: To evaluate whether the inoculation of contaminated cultures in the peritoneal cavity of mice could implement decontamination of Acanthamoeba ***: Suspensions of Acanthamoeba, Acanthamoeba polyphaga ATCC 30461, or Acanthamoeba spp. isolated from soil(Un B13 strain) were inoculated in the peritoneal cavity of Swiss mice(n = 24). After 1, 6, 12, or 24 h of exposure the peritoneal cavity was washed and assessed for the presence of bacteria, fungi, and ***: After 1 h of intraperitoneal inoculation at least 97% of the bacteria and 96% of the fungi(P < 0.05) and 99% of the bacteria(P < 0.05) were successfully eliminated from the ATCC 30461 strain and from the soil isolate Un B13 strain, respectively. This method also allowed the recovery of most trophozoites and cysts from both Acanthamoeba cultures at the end of 24 ***: Our data demonstrated that this technique has great potential for decontamination of Acanthamoeba cultures in a short period of time.

Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is very persistent in the environment and is especially difficult to detect in the seafoods. In recent years, molecular cloning of the genome of HAV has led to sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method for the detection of HAV RNA. Here we describe a new and simple procedure to extract RNA from contaminated clams and the PCR method for detection of HAV in environmental samples. The specificity and efficiency of PCR amplification were studied using cDNA and RNA of HAV. Three primer couples gave satisfactory results. Some basic parameters of the PCR were modified to perform a highly specific and sensitive test.

During and after every military conflict or war, there appears to be rapports about military crimes which were done by military and civil personal of conflicting sides. The basis of these offences is different;however the common to these is psychological and psychical background. The psychological background is an indoctrination of troopers that all what they are doing is right, well for country, nation or defends religion, or ideology. The life and property of enemy (opponent) are less worth than their oven. But most important in this indoctrination is the direct or indirect insurances about the absence of responsibility and promises about free for punishment for these actions. These aspects are well known and well-studied. The psychical background is less studied and more diverse;however in all cases the components of stress are present. The stress can be physical, psychical or toxic. The physical and psychical stress of engaged in military conflict personal is well studied, its action both during the war and as postwar syndrome have sufficient explanations. The action of intoxication especially by contaminants in medical forms, or toxins to induce the criminal behavior of military personal is nearly unstudied. The exceptions are alcohol, psychogenic substances as narcotics, LSD and special doping agents. This paper presented the evidences of additional toxic stress by contaminates in medical forms and intoxication by toxins of military personal engaged in different conflicts during last decades. The hypothesis about the influences of the additional toxic stress by medication with low quality pharmaceutical forms and some toxins on inducing the crimes generally and war crimes by military personal is launched in the paper. In this part the investigation will be concentrated on antimalarial drugs, especially on contaminated primaquine. An experiment was done to see the effect of water soluble organic carbon in soil on the release of arsenic (As). Fifty soil samples, rich in organic carbon were collected from five districts of Bangladesh namely Comilla, Jessore, Satkhira, Gopalganj and Bagerhat. Water soluble organic carbon (WSOC) of the analyzed samples ranged between 15 to 466 mg/L with an average of about 155 mg/L whereas the arsenic concentrations varies between 1.4 to 5.9 mg/L with an average of 4.2 mg/L. The arsenic contents were much higher in soils where peat deposits are prominent (Gopalganj). There has been a log-log relationship between WSOC and soil, as for all the soils, the R2 ranging from 0.355 to 0.811. Correlation between water soluble organic carbon and soil arsenic showed a positive and significant relation between the two parameters indicating the fact that organic or peat deposits contributes to the release of arsenic in Bangladesh environments.

Pollution of the biosphere by heavy metals is a global hazard that has accelerated since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Toxic heavy metals are harmful to living organisms even at low concentrations whereas heavy metals that are essential trace elements are required by plants at low concentrations but can become toxic at high concentrations. Heavy metals released from different sources accumulate in soil and, where bioavailability is high enough;can adversely affect soil biological functioning and other properties, leading to the loss of soil and ecosystem fertility and health. It is important that heavy metal contaminated sites are remediated as heavy metals do not decompose into less harmful substances like organic contaminants, and thus are retained in the soil. In this review, we survey and analysis our current knowledge and understanding of the abundance of heavy metals in soil, their phytoavailability, their toxicity, their uptake and transport, role of rhizobia and other microbes and overall rhizosphere processes.
