Screening of 46 putative enzyme coding loci and 4 different kinds of tissues of Sepiella maindroni de Rochebrone, 1884 for enzymatic activities using starch gel electrophoretic technique proved that the 21 enzymes such as AAT, AK, ALP, AP, CK, DIA, ES, FBP, G3PDH, GPI, GRS, IDH, LDH, MDH, MEP, MPI, NP, PGDH, PGM, SOD and XO *, were active to Sepiella maindroni after being stained. The tissue exhibiting stable and clear bands was also determined. Among tissues tested, mantle muscle tissue was the best for electrophoretic survey of isozymes. Buccal bulb muscle, eye and liver were fairly good for some special enzymes, such as DIA, ES, MPI, NP, etc.

We separated tertiary egg membrane （TGM） from 2- and 25-day-old eggs of cuttlefish Sepiella maindroni de Rochebrune, and revealed its ultrastructure, physical （solubility, barrier property） and biochemical （histology, histochemistry, nutritional components, bacteriostasis） characteristics. The results show that TGM could not be dissolved with natural seawater, alcohol, ether or hydrochloric acid （HC1）, but it could be dissolved with 2-chloroethanol, diethylamine, and sodium hydroxide （NaOH）. The black TGM was more effective in blocking off mud particulates, microorganisms （Chlorella vulgaris, Vibrio alginolyticus） and lighter than the white TGM. The elasticity of black and white TGMs was 1.8 N and 1.5 N, respectively. There were some ink particulates and rod-shaped bacteria in the black TGM. The nutritional components were different between black and white TGMs： Lipid content was lower and protein content was higher in the black TGM. TGM could also inhibit the growth of Vibrio alginolyticus.

Pelagic cephalopods have evolved a series of fascinating traits,such as excellent visual acuity,high-speed agility,and photophores for adaptation to open pelagic ***,the genetic mechanisms underpinning these traits are not well ***,in this study,we obtained high-quality genomes of two purpleback flying squid species(Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis and Sthenoteuthis sp.),with sizes of 5450 Mb and 5651 Mb,*** genomic analyses revealed that the S-crystallin subfamily SL20-1 associated with visual acuity in the purpleback flying squid lineage was significantly expanded,and the evolution of high-speed agility for the species was accompanied by significant positive selection pressure on genes related to energy *** molecular signals might have contributed to the evolution of their adaptative predatory and anti-predatory *** addition,the transcriptomic analysis provided clear indications of the evolution of the photophores of purpleback flying squids,especially the recruitment of new genes and energy metabolism-related genes which may have played key functional roles in the process.
