Approaches and Prospects of Developing Tourism Value of Natural bryophyte Resources in West Sichuan

Karst sinkhole is considered a potential refuge where global warming threatens *** about the impact of human interference on these "refuge" ? In this paper,we analyzed the relationship between human activities and diversity of bryophytes by quantifying the degree of human *** bryophyte components of five karst sinkholes affected by different levels of human disturbance in southwestern China were *** results show that a total of 132 taxa of bryophytes（17 of liverworts,115 of mosses） in 64 genera and 30 families were *** abundance of bryophytes in natural sinkholes was significantly higher than that of tourism and cultivated land regardless of diversity,evenness,and floristic composition *** correspondence analysis（CCA）shows that soil moisture is one of the most important factors affecting abundance distribution of bryophytes in five *** activities including agriculture,animal husbandry and tourism development,will reduce the vegetation coverage of sinkholes and lead to soil moisture ***,effective management of karst sinkholes is needed to maintain their original value of biodiversity conservation.

Abundant bryophytes with high ecological and ornamental value are distributed in natural forests in west Sichuan. Through exploring the practices and forecasting the application of bryophytes from 2 aspects(using bryophytes in the natural world and building artificial moss garden), this paper proposed that the large-scale application of bryophytes could be realized via the development of bryophyte tourism products and commodities on the basis of ecological restoration and artificial cultivation experiment.

Species richness generally decreases with increasing latitude,a biodiversity gradient that has long been considered as one of the few laws in *** latitudinal diversity gradient has been observed in many major groups of *** plants,the latitudinal diversity gradient has been observed in vascular plants,angiosperms,ferns,and ***,a conspicuous latitudinal diversity gradient in mosses at a global or continental scale has not been observed until ***,we analyze a comprehensive data set including moss species in each band of 20° in latitude *** results show that moss species richness decreases strongly with increasing latitude,regardless of whether the globe is considered as a whole or different longitudinal segments(e.g.,Old World versus New World) are considered *** result holds when variation in area size among latitudinal bands is taken into ***'s correlation coefficient between latitude and species richness is-0.99 for both the Northern and Southern *** bryophytes are an extant lineage of early land plants and because mosses not only include most of extant species of bryophytes but also are important constituents of most terrestrial ecosystems,understanding geographic patterns of mosses is particularly important The finding of our study fills a critical knowledge gap.

[Objectives]To study the characteristics of bryophytes in subalpine cold zone and related transition zone.[Methods]The study was divided into scale A and scale *** the scale of A,specimens were collected from Tongmai-Pailong-Dongjiu-Lulang-Sejila Pass-Nyingchi Town-Bagi Village along the national Highway 318.A sample plot was set for each 100 m altitude increase,and samples were collected between each two sample plots as *** the scale of B,bryophyte specimens were collected and studied in the fixed sample plot of the Tibetan Nyingchi Alpine forest Ecosystem Research Observatory.[Results]Through the sampling and collection of bryophytes in Sejila Mountain,more than 3000 specimens were identified with the classical classification *** were 216 species of bryophytes belonging to 82 genera and 24 *** bryophytes in the study area differed obviously in different vegetation types and *** species richness of Sabina saltuaria-Abiesgeorgei *** forest was the ***αdiversity of Abiesgeorgei *** forest was the highest,followed by Sabina saltuaria-Rhododendron forest,and that of alpine shrub was the *** studies showed that theβdiversity of Sabina saltuaria-Rhododendron forest and Rhododendron forest on the eastern slope was the largest,and those of alpine shrub and Sabina saltuaria-Abiesgeorgei *** forest were the ***,theβdiversity of Abiesgeorgei *** forest on the western slope was the highest,and those of alpine shrub and Abiesgeorgei *** forest were the lowest.[Conclusions]There are obvious differences in the distribution of bryophytes on the eastern and western slopes of Sejila Mountain of Tibet.

Chloroplasts and bacterial cells divide by binary fission. The key protein in this constriction division is FtsZ, a self-assembling GTPase similar to eukaryotic tubulin. In prokaryotes, FtsZ is almost always encoded by a single gene, whereas plants harbor several nuclear-encoded FtsZ homologs. In seed plants, these proteins group in two families and all are exclusively imported into plastids. In contrast, the basal land plant Physcomitrella patens, a moss, encodes a third FtsZ family with one member. This protein is dually targeted to the plastids and to the cytosol. Here, we report on the targeted gene disruption of all ftsZ genes in R patens. Subsequent analysis of single and double knockout mutants revealed a complex interaction of the different FtsZ isoforms not only in plastid division, but also in chloroplast shaping, cell patterning, plant development, and gravity sensing. These results support the concept of a plastoskeleton and its functional integration into the cytoskeleton, at least in the moss R patens.

Transformations of the Pleiomorphic Plant MTOC during Sporogenesis in the Hepatic Marchantia polymorpha

Sporogenesis in the hepatic Marchantia polymorpha L. provides an outstanding example of the pleiomorphic nature of the plant microtubule organizing center （MTOC）. Microtubules are nucleated from γ-tubuUn in MTOCs that change form during mitosis and meiosis. Following entry of cells into the reproductive pathway of sporogenesis, successive rounds of mitosis give rise to packets of 4-16 sporocytes. Mitotic spindles are organized at discrete polar organizers （POs）, a type of MTOC that is unique to this group of early divergent land plants. An abrupt and radical transformation in microtubule organization occurs when sporocytes enter meiosis： POs are lost and γ-tubulin is closely associated with surfaces of two large elongated plastids that subsequently divide into four. Migration of the four plastid MTOCs into a tetrahedral arrangement establishes the future spore domains and the division polarity of meiosis. As is typical of many bryophytes, cones of microtubules from the four plastid MTOCs initiate a quadripolar microtubule system （QMS） in meiotic prophase. At this point a transformation in the organization of the MTOCs occurs. The γ-tubulin detaches from plastids and forms a diffuse spheroidal pole in each of the spore domains. The plastids, which are no longer MTOCs, continue to divide. The diffuse MTOCs continue to nucleate cones of microtubules during transformation of the QMS to a bipolar spindle. Following meiosis I, γ-tubulin is associated with nuclear envelopes, and the spindles of meiosis II are organized from diffuse MTOCs at the tetrad poles. At simultaneous cytokinesis, radial microtubule systems are organized at nuclear envelope MTOCs in each of the tetrad members.

UV light spectral response of photosynthetic photochemical efficiency in alpine mosses

Aims bryophytes play an important role in primary production in harsh alpine *** other alpine plants,the alpine bryophytes are often exposed to stronger UV radiation than lowland *** growing under high UV radiation may differ from those from low UV regimes in their physiological response to UV *** were to(i)test the hypothesis and to address whether and/or how alpine bryophytes differ in photosynthetic photochemical characteristics in response to UV light and(ii)understand the potential effects of UV radiation on photosynthetic photochemical process in alpine *** We examined the maximum quantum efficiency of photosystem II(PSII)photochemistry(F_(v)/F_(m))for two alpine bryophyte species,Distichium inclinatum and Encalypta alpine,from a Kobresia humilis meadow and a Kobresia tibetica wetland,respectively,in Haibei,Qinghai(3729#N,10112#E,altitude 3250 m),and for a lowland bryophyte,Polytrichum juniperinum,under different spectrum of UV *** spectral weighting function(BSWF)was obtained to evaluate the effect of UV light on the physiological response in these *** Findings 1)The maximum quantum efficiency of photosystem II photochemistry(F_(v)/F_(m))declined linearly with the increase of radiation dose in wavelengths from 250 to 420 *** effect of UV radiation on F_(v)/F_(m)decreased with higher rate from 250 to 320 nm and from 400 to 420 nm than in UVA range.2)The three species from different ecosystems contrasting in altitudes showed similar pattern of UV *** comparison with other species reported so far,the moss BSWF was among those with the most modest decrease trend with spectrum effect of UV light 50 times higher at 250 than at 420 nm.3)Under the scenario of 16%reduction of stratospheric ozone,the integrated effectiveness from 290 to 345 nm increased only 5%,suggesting that the photochemical activity of the bryophyte PSII is likely to insensitive to O3 depletion.

The occurrence of the dominant C23 n-alkane derived from bryophyte was demonstrated to be related to the cold climate, based on the GC and GC/MS analyses on a 40-cm long peat core, in which this compound exponentially varies in abundance with the depth corresponding to the well-known second Little Ice Age. Both the variation of the chemical components of modern bryophyte resulted from climatic change and the ecological data about the biological growth influenced by climate shed light on the point that the variation of this compound in the peat was related to the cold climate. This was also evidenced by the previously-reported lacustrine data. In addition, the variations of the ratios of ketones/esters and C24 n-alkene/n-alkane (C24:1/024:0) display the trend identical with that of organisms, implicating the replacement between bryophyte and monocotyledon occurring in the peat core.
