Association between body mass index and in vitro fertilization/intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection outcomes:An analysis of 15,124 normal ovarian responders in China

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome: A Link with Vitamin D, body mass index and Hyperlipidemia

Introduction: Carbai tunnel syndrome [CTS] is compression of the median nerve at the wrist , this causes tingling in the hands, pain, numbness, tingling in the fingers particularly the thumb, index and middle fingers, loss of sensation in the hands and fingers, also weakness in the hands. The aim of the present study was to study a possible association which could be found between electrophysiological data in CTS, BMI, hyperlipidemia, and vitamin D [Vit D] levels. Methods: We used a sample of 40 females of the same age group, who were divided into Group 1 as a control consists of 18 healthy females and Group II consisted of 22 age matched females with clinical and electrophysiological evidence of CTS. We measured atherogenic index [AI] as a marker of hyperlipidemia, body mass index [BMI], Vit D status and electrophysiological tests of CTS. Results: Subjects with CTS had deficient Vit D status, they had significantly high atherogenic index (AI), and significant high BMI all compared to control Group I. Median sensory conduction velocity was significantly correlated negatively with BMI and atherogenic index, and positively correlated significantly with Vit D status. But median sensory and motor action potential latency were significantly correlated positively with BMI and atherogenic index, and negatively correlated significantly with Vit D status The analysis revealed BMI, atherogenic index and Vit D status as predictors of median nerve sensory and motor action potential latency and sensory nerve conduction velocity in CTS. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that obesity and hyperlipidemia are potent CTS risk factors and declared the direct association between Vit D status and CTS occurrence. Our study supports the notion of the compensatory neuroprotective role of Vit D which could have a direct impact on the nerves integrity as it has an anti-inflammatory property which acts in relieving nervous insults and stress. .

Analysis of the Effects of Maternal body mass index and Gestational Weight Gain on Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes in Twin Pregnancy

Objective:To investigate the effects of maternal body mass index(BMI)and gestational weight gain on maternal and neonatal outcomes in twin ***:Five hundred cases of twin pregnancies were divided into a low body weight group(68 cases),a normal weight group(355 cases),an overweight group(65 cases),and an obesity group(12 cases)according to the World Health Organization(WHO)body mass index(BMI)classification guidelines Results:Comparison of weight gain during different pregnancies revealed that pregnant women were mainly of low weight and average *** higher the BMI before pregnancy,the higher the incidence of excessive weight gain during *** incidences of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)and premature rupture of membranes in women with low weight gain were significantly higher than those in women with average weight gain and high weight gain(P<0.05).The incidences of gestational hypertension,preeclampsia,and anemia in women with high weight gain were significantly higher than those in women with low weight gain and average weight gain(P<0.05).The incidence of neonatal birth weight,fetal distress,and macrosomia in the high weight gain group was significantly higher than those in the low weight gain and average weight gain groups(P<0.05).The birth weight of newborns in low-weight gain mothers was significantly lower than that of normal-weight gain mothers(P<0.05).Conclusion:Poor maternal and infant outcomes were common in women with insufficient or excessive weight gain during ***,for women with twin pregnancies,weight management is crucial to ensure maternal and infant health.

Impact of body mass index,weight gain,and metabolic disorders on survival and prognosis in patients with breast cancer who underwent chemotherapy

Background: Weight gain during chemotherapy in patients with breast cancer contributes to their poor prognosis. However, a growing number of studies have found that metabolic disorders seem to play a more important role in breast cancer prognosis than weight gain. This study aimed to explore the prognostic effects of body mass index (BMI), weight gain, and metabolic disorders on the overall survival (OS) and prognosis of patients with breast cancer who underwent ***: Data from the inpatient medical records of patients with breast cancer who underwent chemotherapy at the Beijing Cancer Hospital Breast Cancer Center from January to December 2010 were retrospectively collected, and the patients were followed up until August ***: A total of 438 patients with stages I to III breast cancer met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Forty-nine (11.19%) patients died, while 82 (18.72%) patients had tumor recurrence and metastasis at the last follow-up (August 2020). From the time of diagnosis until after chemotherapy, no significant differences were observed in the body weight (t=4.694,P<0.001), BMI categories (χ^(2)=19.215,P=0.001), and incidence of metabolic disorders (χ^(2)=24.841,P<0.001);the BMI categories and weight change had no effect on the OS. Both univariate (χ^(2)=6.771,P=0.009) and multivariate survival analyses (hazard ratio=2.775, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.326-5.807,P=0.007) showed that low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels at diagnosis had a negative impact on the OS. The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the HDL-C level at diagnosis (odds ratio [OR]=2.200, 95% CI: 0.996-4.859,P=0.051) and metabolic disorders after chemotherapy (OR=1.514, 95% CI: 1.047-2.189,P=0.028) are risk factors for poor prognosis in patients with breast ***: Chemotherapy led to weight gain and aggravated the metabolic disorders in patients with breast cancer. Background:Tri-ponderal mass index(TMI)has been reported to be a more accurate estimate of body fat than body mass index(BMI).This study aims to compare the effectiveness of TMI and BMI in identifying hypertension,dyslipidemia,impaired fasting glucose(IFG),abdominal obesity,and clustered cardio-metabolic risk factors(CMRFs)in 3-to 17-year-old ***:A total of 1587 children aged 3 to 17 years were *** regression was used to evaluate correlations between BMI and *** under the curves(AUCs)were used to compare discriminative capability among *** was converted to BMI-z scores,and accuracy was compared by false-positive rate,false-negative rate,and total misclassification ***:Among children aged 3 to 17 years,the mean TMI was 13.57±2.50 kg/m 3 for boys and 13.3±2.33 kg/m 3 for *** ratios(ORs)of TMI for hypertension,dyslipidemia,abdominal obesity,and clustered CMRFs ranged from 1.13 to 3.15,higher than BMI,whose ORs ranged from 1.08 to *** showed similar ability of TMI(AUC:0.83)and BMI(AUC:0.85)in identifying clustered *** abdominal obesity and hypertension,the AUC of TMI was 0.92 and 0.64,respectively,which was significantly better than that of BMI,0.85 and *** of TMI for dyslipidemia and IFG were 0.58 and *** 85th and 95th of TMI were set as thresholds,total misclassification rates of TMI for clustered CMRFs ranged from 6.5%to 16.4%,which was not significantly different from that of BMI-z scores standardized according to World Health Organization ***:TMI was found to have equal or even better effectiveness in comparison with BMI in identifying hypertension,abdominal obesity,and clustered CMRFs TMI was more stable than BMI in 3-to 17-year-old children,while it failed to identify dyslipidemia and *** is worth considering the use of TMI for screening CMRFs in children and adolescents.
