In plants,pathogenesis related proteins(PRs) play vital role in defense response of various biotic and abiotic *** studies have showed the antifungal activity of the PR-5 proteins(thaumatin-like proteins,TLPs).However,the molecular basis of TLPs for resistance to necrotrophic fungal pathogens,including Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Botrytis cinerea,is still ***,we cloned a novel TLP gene in ***,which fused a prp domain in its C termini,named *** on the collinear analysis across the well-defined phylogenetic tree,we deduced origin of this fusion *** expression of bntlp — prp1 in Arabidopsis led to significant enhanced tolerance to *** and *** infections,while the T-DNA mutant of the endogenous AtTLP-prp1 gene showed more susceptible to both *** interestingly,both the TLP and prp domain could contribute to the disease ***,the expression of numerous marker genes involved in salicylic acid(SA) and jasmonic acid(JA)/ethylene(ET) signaling pathways were dramatically *** together,these results indicate that the bntlp — prp1,an ancient fusion gene,regulates resistance to fungal pathogens probably by governing both SA and JA/ET-mediated defense signaling in Arabidopsis.
