A phytochemical investigation on Isodon flavidus led to the isolation of flavidanolide A(1),a rearranged diterpenoid featuring a six/seven/five-membered tricyclic skeleton,together with flavidanolide B(2),an uncommon heterodimeric diterpenoid consisting of a norabietane and a seco-isopimarane monomeric *** structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic data and single-crystal X-ray diffraction *** plausible biosynthetic routes were also *** the bioassay,flavidanolide B was found to exhibit good inhibitory effect against lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced nitric oxide(NO)production in RAW264.7 cells comparable to positive control pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate ammonium(PDTC),which provided evidence for the medicinal value of *** as a folk medicine for treating inflammatory diseases.

The mechanisms of the relationship between glucocorticoids and cardiovascular diseases

To the editor： We have enjoyed reading an original article by Ji et al,1 entitled Influence of drug treatment on glucocorticoid receptor levels in patients with coronary heart disease, published in a recent issue of the Chinese Medical Journal. Herein, 80 patients with coronary artery disease were divided into four groups according to given drugs, and glucocorticoid （GC） receptor protein levels in peripheral blood lymphocytes were investigated before and I month after treatment in each group. In groups receiving beta blocker and nifedipine, increased levels were observed. They proposed that these increased levels might account for antiinflammatory effects of these drugs.
