Evaluation of the glacial isostatic Adjustment(GIA) models for Antarctica based on GPS vertical velocities

Due to the scarcity of data, modeling the glacial isostatic Adjustment(GIA) for Antarctica is more difficult than it is for the ancient ice sheet area in North America and Northern Europe. Large uncertainties are observed in existing GIA models for Antarctica. Modern space-based geodetic measurements provide checks and constraints for GIA models. The present-day uplift velocities of global positioning system(GPS) stations at 73 stations in Antarctica and adjacent regions from 1996 to 2014 have been estimated using GAMIT/GLOBK version 10.5 with a colored noise model. To easily analyze the effect of difference sources on the vertical velocities, and for easy comparison with both GIA model predictions and GPS results from Argus et al.(2014) and Thomas et al.(2011), seven sub-regions are divided. They are the northern Antarctic Peninsula, the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf, the Amundsen Sea coast, the Ross Ice Shelf, Mount Erebus, inland Southwest Antarctica and the East Antarctic coast,respectively. The results show that the fast uplift in the north Antarctic Peninsula and Pine Island Bay regions may be caused by the elastic response to snow and ice mass loss. The fast subsidence near Mount Erebus may be related to the activity of a magma body. The uplift or subsidence near the East Antarctic coast is very slow while the uplift for the rest regions is mainly caused by GIA. By analyzing the correlation and the associated weighted root mean square(WRMS) between the GIA predictions and the GPS velocities, we found that the ICE-6G_C(VM5a) model and the Geruo 13 model show the most consistency with our GPS results, while the W12a and IJ05_R2 series models show poor consistency with our GPS results. Although improved greatly in recent years, the GIA modeling in Antarctica still lags behind the modeling of the North American. The process of life Adjustment in patients at onset of glioma who are receiving continuous oral anticancer drug: A qualitative descriptive study

Objective: Patients with malignant gliomas have to adjust their daily lives because of the threat of impending death and declining abilities.Thus,clarifying the process of life Adjustment in such patients would help them lead a normal life.To clarify the process of life Adjustment in patients at the onset of glioma,who continuously receive oral anticancer drug.Methods: The study institution consisted of two designated cancer centers.Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 patients,and the data were analyzed using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach of Kinoshita (M-GTA).Results: As a core category representing the process of life Adjustment in patients at the onset of glioma,"trials and errors for self-fulfillment even in a limited lifespan" was extracted.Patients began "seeking information about the unfamiliar life-threatening disease," and "imaging their uncertain lives after the disease and the resulting disability" while "conducting repeated trials and errors to establish coping methods according to their abilities." When facing difficulties in such trials and errors,they reported "losing self-confidence due to unexpected limitations." However,they regulated their feelings by "resigning themselves to their unchangeable reality." Contrarily,as "functional improvement enhanced their motivation to recover," they attempted to promote functional recovery and organized their daily lives in "fulfilling their desires in their limited lifespan." Conclusion: The process of life Adjustment in patients with malignant gliomas involved identifying a way of living despite limited lifespan.To ensure appropriate nursing care for patients at the onset of glioma,it is important to help them establish coping methods in accordance with their abilities.

A novel static shape-Adjustment technique for planar phased-array satellite antennas

Planar phased-array satellite antennas deform when subjected to external disturbances such as thermal gradients or slewing maneuvers.Such distortion can degrade the coherence of the antenna and must therefore be eliminated to maintain performance.To support planar phased-array satellite antennas,a truss with diagonal cables is often applied,generally pretensioned to improve the stiffness of the antenna and maintain the integrity of the structure.A new technique is proposed herein,using the diagonal cables as the actuators for static shape Adjustment of the planar phased-array satellite antenna.In this technique,the diagonal cables are not pretensioned;instead,they are slack when the deformation of the antenna is small.When using this technique,there is no need to add redundant control devices,improving the reliability and reducing the mass of the antenna.The finite element method is used to establish a structural model for the satellite antenna,then a method is introduced to select proper diagonal cables and determine the corresponding forces.Numerical simulations of a simplified two-bay satellite antenna are first carried out to validate the proposed technique.Then,a simplified 18-bay antenna is also studied,because spaceborne satellite antennas have inevitably tended to be large in recent years.The numerical simulation results show that the proposed technique can be effectively used to adjust the static shape of planar phased-array satellite antennas,achieving high precision.

Study on the method of precision Adjustment of star sensor

Star sensors are indispensable spatial measurement sensors for high-resolution earth observation and astronomical observations, and the demand for high measurement accuracy of satellite sensors continues to increase; thus, the star sensor optical machine Adjustment error cannot be ignored. The commonly used installation error correction method cannot solely meet the precision analysis requirements. In this paper, the relationship between the optical machine installation and the star sensor measurement error is analyzed, and several common Adjustment error correction methods are compared. An Adjustment method for optical machines is proposed to meet the requirements of very high precision star sensors. The assembly precision requirements of the investigated very high precision star sensor are analyzed considering the whole machine, and then the optical components are controlled through optical precision Adjustments to satisfy the precision requirements. Finally, through the complete machine calibration, the star sensor precision Adjustment for an optical machine structure is verified. This method meets the requirements of very high precision sensors and is suitable for the precision Adjustment of optical machine structures, which is of practical significance to improve the precision of star sensors.

Modeling of laser Adjustment for large diameter tubes using robotic kinematic theories

Laser Adjustment is a new technique that employs laser forming processes to align components along specific directions. To develop a laser Adjustment solution with a minimal number of bends, herein, a new modeling and calculation method that uses robotic kinematic theories is introduced. A numerical example and the corresponding laser Adjustment solution are presented. The simulation results suggest that a straight tube with a flange connector can be adjusted to match the corresponding connector with three bends. Finally, the simulation results were verified using experiments. The maximum deviation was approximately 0.4 mm and the deviation of the flange connector was smaller, showing that a good Adjustment quality could be achieved using the specific Adjustment solution.

Difference Among Similarity:A Study on Macao Students’Adjustment Experiences in Taiwan’s Higher Education Systems

Purpose:This study focused on cross-region student mobility to explore whether Macao students have Adjustment issues while studying and living in Taiwan.Design/Approach/Methods:A total of 663 Macao students were surveyed in Taiwan,and the statistical methods,including correlation,t-test,analysis of variance,and hierarchical regression analysis were addressed to analyze the data.Findings:Macao students,even while studying in a Chinese context,did have social and psychological Adjustment issues(i.e.,social support and self-efficacy).Originality/Value:This study could shed some light on understanding cross-region students as well as providing practical guides for relevant governmental departments in their policy regarding outbound students.

Short-sale refinancing and price Adjustment speed to bad news: Evidence from a quasi-natural experiment in China

Short selling may accelerate stock price Adjustment to negative news.However,the literature provides mixed evidence for this prediction.Using short-sale refinancing and a staggered difference-in-differences(DID)model,this paper explores the effect of short selling on stock price Adjustment.Our results show that(1)short-sale refinancing improves the speed of stock price Adjustment to negative news.This result holds after we control for endogeneity.(2)The positive relationship between short-sale refinancing and stock price Adjustment speed is significant in subsamples of stocks with higher earnings management or lower accuracy of analyst forecasts,indicating that firms with more opaque information are more likely to be targeted by short sellers.In subsamples of stocks with a higher ownership concentration or lower ownership by institutional investors,short selling is more likely to increase the speed of stock price Adjustment,indicating that ownership structure may influence negative news mining.(3)As short-sale refinancing exacerbates the absorption of bad news by stock prices,it increases crash risk.This study enriches the research on the economic consequences of short selling and provides empirical evidence supporting regulations on short selling in China.

Global Imbalance Adjustment:Stylized Facts,Driving Factors and China's Prospects

This paper summarizes global imbalance Adjustment after the GFC and analyzes the evolution of balance of payments using a four-quadrant diagram.We construct the framework of a stock Adjustment mechanism to analyze the main driving factors for the imbalance in surplus/deficit countries and debtors/creditors in an attempt to determine the sustainability of imbalance Adjustment.We find that imbalances have been reduced to some extent,but most countries have not achieved rebalance after the global financial crisis.Therefore,we propose an ideal path for global imbalance Adjustment and summarize the policy practices of representative countries that have followed this route.Based on our analysis,we suggest that China should learn from the Australian experience and adopt a macro-prudential assessment policy,actively adjust the domestic economic structure and optimize the structure of balance ofpayments.

The Impact of R&D Capitalization on Macroeconomic Variables: From the Perspective of the Adjustment of NIPAS in USA

Based on the results of the 14 thcomprehensive Adjustment of NIPAS published by BEA in July of 2013,this paper employs the national economic accounting principles to analyze the impact of R&D capitalization on Macroeconomic Variables from both the theoretical and empirical aspects. The results show that R&D capitalization will produce impact on many macroeconomic variables. Although some changes of the indexes are very small in amount, the implementation of capitalized accounting on R&D is the requirement of SNA 2008 and an inevitable trend of international accounting changes. China must further improve the statistical content of R&D, revise the accounting caliber and classification standards for R&D, explore the accounting models for R&D satellite accounts, improve the quality of R&D accounting data, strengthen the understanding of the essence of SNA 2008, so as to promote the integration of Chinese national economic accounting system with SNA 2008 as soon as possible.

The axial flow fan is a kind of turbomachinery equipment to provide compressed gas and the statorblade adjusting mechanism is the key to the whole system. Taking the stator blade Adjustment electro-hydraulicservo system as the research object, the traditional hydraulic servo system is vulnerable to oil pollution, high fail-ure rate and low energy conversion efficiency. To solve the above-mentioned problems, the Direct drive volumecontrol hydraulic system for stator blade Adjustment is designed, the hydraulic power source of the system is com-posed of servo motor and bidirectional quantitative pump. The working principle of this system is analyzed, thesimulation model of hydraulic system is built and solved. The results show that the new system has higher energyefficiency, the structure is more compact, the machine power is smaller and the control is more automatic and in-telligent as compared to the traditional one.
