aberration changes of the corneal anterior surface following discontinued use of rigid gas permeable contact lenses

AIM: To record aberrations with a corneal topographic device on the anterior surface of the cornea at different time-points prior to wearing and following discontinued use of rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses. The effect of wearing RGP on the anterior surface of the cornea was discussed to provide guidance for clinical refractive error ***: The study objects were 24 eyes from 24 patients. All patients underwent identical examination procedures prior to lens use, as well as afterwards, including slit-lamp examination, non-contact tonometer measurement, computer optometry and corneal curvature measurement, subjective refraction test, and corneal topography analysis. The patients wore contact lenses everyday for 1 month and then discontinued. Corneal topographies were recorded at certain time points of 30 minutes, 1 day, 3, 7 and 14 days following ***: Total corneal aberration at each time point following discontinued use of RGP contact lenses was less than the time point prior to use. Detailed results were as follows: root mean square (RMS) (pre)=(1.438± 0.328)μm, RMS (30 minutes) =(1.076 ±0.355)μm, RMS (1 day) =(1.362 ±0.402)μm, RMS (3 days) =(1.373 ±0.398)μm, RMS (7 days) =(1.387 ±0.415)μm, and RMS (14 days) = (1.430±0.423)μm. Results showed that at 30 minutes after discontinued use of RGP contact lenses, almost all 2 ndand 3 rd-order aberrations change. Quadrafoil Z10 and spherical Z12 of the 4 th-order were also changed. Alterations to Z5, Z6, and Z12 at 1 day after discontinued use were significant differences compared with the time period prior to RGP use: Z5 and Z6 decreased, and Z12 increased slightly. Z5 and Z6 remained decreased at 3 days after discontinued use, but Z9 and Z10 continued to increase and Z12 returned to levels prior to RGP use. Comparison of age-related changes between corneal and ocular aberration in young and mid-age myopic patients

AIM: To study the dynamic character of aberration between the cornea and the ocular with aging, and to evaluate the symmetry of the aberrations between right and left eye in order to supply the data for clinic to do the refractive surgery reasonably. METHODS: This is a comparative case series study. 82 normal cases (164 eyes) including 37 females (74 eyes) and 45 males (90 eyes) were recruited through the routine examinations,Topolyzer and wavefront analysis. The average age was 25.9 +/- 5.0 years old (range 18 to 49 years old), and the mean spherical equivalent (SE) is -3.82 +/- 2.21D (range -1.00 to -6.00D). The changes of aberrations regarding age, the relationship between anterior corneal and total aberrations were analyzed,as well as the symmetry between right and left eyes by using Zernike terms. RESULTS: The Z (3) (1), RMS3 of corneal aberrations, Z (3) (1), Z (4) (0) RMS3 and RMS4 of ocular aberrations had a positive correlation with age. The zernike terms both in corneal and whole eye were significantly correlated between right and left eyes. CONCLUSION: The corneal horizontal coma, ocular horizontal coma and ocular spherical aberrations become to increase at the age of more than 40 years old. The dynamic change of aberration with aging, balance between corneal and ocular, and the symmetric character between left eye and right eye should be designed carefully in the treatment nomogram before the refractive surgery.

Personalized aspheric intraocular lens implantation based on corneal spherical aberration: a review

With the evolution of cataract surgery from visual rehabilitation to refractive surgery, aspheric intraocular lenses(IOLs) are being increasingly used in the field of ophthalmology. This increased use can be attributed to negative or zero spherical aberrations with unique optical designs, which counteract some of the positive spherical aberrations of the cornea. These alterations reduce the total spherical aberration of human eyes and improve the visual acuity in patients with cataract postoperatively. At present, various types of aspheric IOLs are used worldwide. Although the implantation of aspheric IOL is beneficial to the patients who need correction of spherical aberrations, much controversy is still associated with ocular residual spherical aberrations that facilitate the best visual quality for patients postoperatively. In order to provide reference for future clinical work and scientific research, this report reviews the relationship between the ocular residual spherical aberration of human eyes and visual quality.

Evaluation of genotoxicity of Trois through Ames and in vitro chromosomal aberration tests

Objective:To investigate the mutagenic potential of Trois using the bacterial reverse mutation assay(Ames test)and in vitro chromosomal aberration ***:The ability of Trois to induce reverse mutations was evaluated in Salmonella lyphimurium(TA 98,TA100,TAI535 and TA1537)and Escherichia coli(WP2 uvrA)with and without metabolic activation system(S9 mix)at the dose range of 313 to 5000μg/*** aberrations were evaluated in Chinese hamster lung(CHL)cell line at the dose levels of 15,7.5,3.7,1.9 and 0.9 mg/mL in the absence and presence of S9 ***:There were no increases in the number of revertant colonies at any concentrations of Trois used in the study with and without S9 mix in all tester *** did not produce any structural aberration in CHL cells in the presence or absence of S9 ***:Results of this study suggest that Trois is non-mutagenic.

<i>In Vitro</i>Chromosomal aberration Frequency by Electrofishing on <i>Poecilia latipinna</i>(Sailfin Molly) Fishes in Southern of Iraq

The present studies describe Chromosomal aberration effects of electrofishing, which were evaluated on Poecilia latipinna, located in Shat Al-Arab river in Al-garmma city (south of Iraq). The electrofishing derive used in work is simulated to that used in the commercial fishing. The apparatus generates voltage ranged from 40 to 280 volts. Nine bearers of Poecilia latipinna sailfin molly fish in chromosomal analysis were divided into three treatments. The first were a control, the fishes of the second were exposed to 110 volts (10 seconds), and final groups were exposed to 110 volts (15 seconds). Mitotic index of the electrofishing with a control for each group decreased with increasing exposed time in somatic cell kidney tissue of Poecilia latipinna. The chromosome aberration analysis revealed a significant increase in the most frequent aberration per 150 metaphase in analyzed groups (1.33 in T1 groups, 39.33 in T2 groups) was chromosome break, fragment, range chromosome, Sticky chromosome mean, were higher in comparison to non exposed electrical shock fishing groups (control groups T1). At the same time, it showed a higher positive correlation of total chromosome aberration frequencies between T1 and T2 groups, while, all fishes died in T3 groups. According to our results, we represented the first record in Iraq.

Rays’ Change of Directions between Inertial Frames and Stellar aberration

The path of a light’s signal is one and the same in the universal space regardless of the inertial frame by which it is identified. However, only one frame can be taken stationary and identified with the universal space while all other frames are moving. The direction of the path of a light’s pulse in a moving frame is determined in terms of its direction in the stationary one;the result is utilized to explain stellar aberration and show that the tilted direction in the moving frame depends only on its velocity. The aberration increment vector is introduced and employed to determine the apparent position of a star at each point of the earth orbit. aberration in an earth satellite relative to the geocentric frame is presented. The direction’s change of a light beam between graded inertial frames promotes explaining aberration in an earth’s satellite in parallel to stellar aberration on earth.
