Terahertz biotechnology has been increasingly applied in various biomedical fields and has especially shown great potential for application in brain *** this article,we review the development of terahertz biotechnology and its applications in the field of *** evidence indicates promising prospects for the use of terahertz spectroscopy and terahertz imaging techniques in the diagnosis of amyloid disease,cerebrovascular disease,glioma,psychiatric disease,traumatic brain injury,and myelin *** vitro and animal experiments have also demonstrated the potential therapeutic value of terahertz technology in some neuropsychiatric *** the precise underlying mechanism of the interactions between terahertz electromagnetic waves and the biosystem is not yet fully understood,the research progress in this field shows great potential for biomedical noninvasive diagnostic and therapeutic ***,the biosafety of terahertz radiation requires further exploration regarding its two-sided efficacy in practical *** review demonstrates that terahertz biotechnology has the potential to be a promising method in the field of neuropsychiatry based on its unique advantages.

Engineering atomic Rb-N configurations to tune radical pathways for highly selective photocatalytic H2O2 synthesis coupled with biomass valorization

Photocatalytic oxygen reduction for hydrogen peroxide （H2O2） synthesis presents a green and costeffective production ***,achieving highly selective H2O2synthesis remains challenging,necessitating precise control over free radical reaction pathways and minimizing undesirable oxidative ***,we report for the visible light-driven simultaneous co-photocatalytic reduction of O2to H2O2and oxidation of biomass using the atomic rubidium-nitride modified carbon nitride（CNRb）.The optimized CNRb catalyst demonstrates a record photoreduction rate of 8.01 mM h-1for H2O2generation and photooxidation rate of 3.75 mM h-1for furfuryl alcohol to furoic acid,achieving a remarkable solar-to-chemical conversion （SCC） efficiency of up to 2.27%.Experimental characterizations and DFT calculation disclosed that the introducing atomic Rb–N configurations allows for the high-selective generation of superoxide radicals while suppressing hydroxyl free radical *** is because the Rb–N serves as the new alternative site to perceive a stronger connection position for O2adsorption and reinforce the capability to extract protons,thereby triggering a high selective redox product *** study holds great potential in precisely regulating reactive radical processes at the atomic level,thereby paving the way for efficient synthesis of H2O2coupled with biomass valorization.

Mediating role of health literacy in the relationship between social isolation and psychological distress among pre-frail older adults

BACKGROUND Frailty has become a significant public health *** recent increase in the number of frail older adults has led to increased attention being paid to psycho-logical care services in *** social isolation of pre-frail older adults can impact their psychological *** To explore the mediating effect of health literacy between social isolation and psychological distress among communitydwelling older adults with *** This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 254 pre-frail older individuals aged 60 years and *** isolation,health literacy,and psycholo-gical distress were comprehensively measured using the Lubben Social Network Scale-6,12-item Short-Form Health Literacy Questionnaire,and the Kessler Psy-chological Distress *** were evaluated using the SPSS 27.0 package program and the PROCESS macro *** statistical analyses,correlation analyses,and bootstrap mediation tests were used to assess associations between the *** The results showed that social isolation had an effect on health literacy among pre-frail older adults(β=0.240,P<0.001),social isolation impact on psycho-logical distress pre-frail older adults(β=-0.415,P<0.001);health literacy was identified effect on psychological distress among pre-frail older persons(β=-0.307,P<0.001).Health literacy partially mediated the relationship between social isolation and psychological distress among community-dwelling older adults with pre-frailty,with a mediation effect of-0.074,accounting for 17.83%of the total effect.

Global Identification of Significantly Expressed Genes in Developing Endosperm of Rice by Expression Sequence Tags and cDNA Array Approaches

Rice endosperm plays a very important role in seedling germination and determines the qualities of rice grain. Although studies on specific gene categories in endosperm have been carried out, global view of gene expression at a transcription level In rice endosperm Is still limited. To gain a better understanding of the global and tissue-specific gene expression profiles In rice endosperm, a cDNA library from rice endosperm of immature seeds was sequenced. A cDNA array was constructed based on the tentative unique transcripts derived from expression sequence tag （EST） assembling results and then hybridized with cDNAs from five different tissues or organs including endosperm, embryo, leaf, stem and root of rice. Significant redundancy was found for genes encoding prolamin, glutelin, allergen, and starch synthesis proteins, accounting for ~34% of the total ESTs obtained. The cDNA array revealed 87 significantly expressed genes In endosperm compared with the other four organs or tissues. These genes included 13 prolamin family proteins, 17 glutelin family proteins, 12 binding proteins, nine catalytic proteins and four ribosomal proteins, indicating a complicated biological processing in rice endosperm. In addition, Northern verification of 1,4-alpha-glucan branching enzyme detected two isoforms in rice endosperm, the larger one of which only existed in endosperm.

Bexarotene improves motor function after spinal cord injury in mice

Spinal cord injury is a challenge in orthopedics because it causes irreversible damage to the central nervous ***,early treatment to prevent lesion expansion is crucial for the management of patients with spinal cord ***,a type of retinoid,exerts therapeutic effects on patients with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and Parkinson's *** has been proven to promote autophagy,but it has not been used in the treatment of spinal cord *** investigate the effects of bexarotene on spinal cord injury,we established a mouse model of T11–T12 spinal cord contusion and performed daily intraperitoneal injection of bexarotene for 5 consecutive *** found that bexarotene effectively reduced the deposition of collagen and the number of pathological neurons in the injured spinal cord,increased the number of synapses of nerve cells,reduced oxidative stress,inhibited pyroptosis,promoted the recovery of motor function,and reduced *** of autophagy with 3-methyladenine reversed the effects of bexarotene on spinal cord *** enhanced the nuclear translocation of transcription factor E3,which further activated AMP-activated protein kinase-S-phase kinase-associated protein 2-coactivator-associated arginine methyltransferase 1 and AMP-activated protein kinase-mammalian target of rapamycin signaling *** injection of transcription factor E3 sh RNA or intraperitoneal injection of compound C,an AMP-activated protein kinase blocker,inhibited the effects of *** findings suggest that bexarotene regulates nuclear translocation of transcription factor E3 through the AMP-activated protein kinase-Sphase kinase-associated protein 2-coactivator-associated arginine methyltransferase 1 and AMP-activated protein kinase-mammalian target of rapamycin signal pathways,promotes autophagy,decreases reactive oxygen species level,inhibits pyroptosis,and improves motor function after spinal cord injury.

Heat stroke alters hippocampal and cerebellar transmitter metabonomics

BACKGROUND:The mechanisms underlying heat stroke(HS)-induced hippocampal injury remain *** study aimed to evaluate the HS-induced metabonomics of hippocampal and cerebellar ***:The HS model was established with male Sprague-Dawley rats subjected to heat exposure of up to 42℃ at a humidity of(55.0±5.0)%.The hippocampal and cerebellar transmitters and metabolites of rats were tested via ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry(UPLC-MS/MS).The primary transmitters and metabolites were identified by principal component analysis(PCA)and orthogonal partial least square-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA).The major metabolic pathways for HS were selected after *** brain injury was evaluated by histological ***:HS induced hippocampal and cerebellar injuries in *** upregulated the protein levels of hippocampal glutamate,glutamine,gamma-aminobutyric acid,L-tryptophan(Trp),5-hydroxy-indoleacetic acid,and kynurenine;however,it downregulated asparagine,tryptamine,5-hydroxytryptophan,melatonin,3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine(L-DOPA),and vanillylmandelic *** also sharply elevated the protein levels of cerebellar methionine and Trp,and decreased the levels of serotonin,L-alanine,L-asparagine,L-aspartate,cysteine,norepinephrine,spermine,spermidine,and *** glutamate,monoamine transmitters,cerebellar aspartate acid,and catecholamine transmitters’metabolic pathways were identified as the main metablic pathways in ***:The hippocampus and cerebellum were injured in rats with HS,possibly induced the disorder of hippocampal glutamate and serotonin metabolism,cerebellar aspartate acid and catecholamine transmitter metabolism,and related metabolic pathways.

RESEARCH ON ADAPTIVE DATA COMPRESSION METHOD FOR TRIANGULATED SURFACES

NC code or STL file can be generated directly from measuring data in a fastreverse-engineering mode. Compressing the massive data from laser scanner is the key of the newmode. An adaptive compression method based on triangulated-surfaces model is put ***-vector angles between triangles are computed to find prime vertices for removal. Ring datastructure is adopted to save massive data effectively. It allows the efficient retrieval of allneighboring vertices and triangles of a given vertices. To avoid long and thin triangles, a newre-triangulation approach based on normalized minimum-vertex-distance is proposed, in which thevertex distance and interior angle of triangle are considered. Results indicate that the compressionmethod has high efficiency and can get reliable precision. The method can be applied in fastreverse engineering to acquire an optimal subset of the original massive data.
