Enhanced Electrical Properties in Carbon Nanotube/Poly （3-hexylthiophene） Nanocomposites Formed Through Non-Covalent Functionalization

Poly（3-hexylthiophene）（P3HT） has received much attention as a good candidate to replace inorganic semiconductors for flexible electronics due to its solution-processability. However, the low charge mobility of P3HT is an obstacle to its commercialization. To overcome this problem, we propose a new non-covalent functionalization method for carbon nanotubes （CNTs） for use in CNT/P3HT nanocomposites. By using modified pyrene molecules with hydrophobic long alkyl chains, the non-covalently functionalized CNTs can become well dispersed in hydrophobic solutions and organic semiconductor matrices. Fabrication of organic thin-film transistors （OTFTs） from the non-covalently functionalized CNT/organic semiconductor nanocomposites shows that our non-covalent functionalization method significantly reduces damage to CNTs during functionalization when compared with covalent functionalization by treatment with acids. The OTFTs show 15 times enhancement of field effect mobility （1.5 × 10^-2 cm^2/（V.s）） compared to the mobility of OTFTs made from pure P3HT. This enhancement is achieved by addition of only 0.25 wt% of CNTs to P3HT.

Plant hormone abscisic acid （ABA） serves as an integrator of environmental stresses such as drought to trig-ger stomatal closure by regulating specific ion channels in guard cells. We previously reported that SLAC1, an outward anion channel required for stomatal closure, was regulated via reversible protein phosphorylation events involving ABA signaling components, including protein phosphatase 2C members and a SnRK2-type kinase （OST1）. In this study, we reconstituted the ABA signaling pathway as a protein-protein interaction relay from the PYL/RCAR-type receptors, to the PP2C-SnRK2 phosphatase-kinase pairs, to the ion channel SLAC1. The ABA receptors interacted with and inhibited PP2C phosphatase activity against the SnRK2-type kinase, releasing active SnRK2 kinase to phosphorylate, and activate the SLAC1 channel, leading to reduced guard cell turgor and stomatal closure. Both yeast two-hybrid and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays were used to verify the interactions among the components in the pathway. These biochemical assays demonstrated activity modifications of phosphatases and kinases by their interaction partners. The SLAC1 channel activity was used as an endpoint readout for the strength of the signaling pathway, depending on the presence of different combinations of signaling components. Further study using transgenic plants overexpressing one of the ABA receptors demonstrated that changing the relative level of interacting partners would change ABA sensitivity.

The elementary analysis of this paper presents explicit expressions of the constants in the a priori error estimates for the lowest-order Courant, Crouzeix-Raviart nonconforming and P^viart-Thomas mixed finite element methods in the Poisson model problem. The three constants and their dependences on some maximal angle in the triangulation are indeed all comparable and allow accurate a priori error control.

Cooperative communications is a promising technique for future high speed wireless *** systems may be formulated as virtual multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems where spatial/cooperetive diversity is a key advantage. However,different from MIMO systems,one of the major chal- lenges for cooperative communications systems is that the cooperative transmissions in cooperative systems may be neither time nor frequency synchronized,since the transmissions are from multiple cooperative nodes at different *** existing signal designs for co-located MIMO systems may not be able to collect the cooperative diversity in cooperative communications *** paper gives an overview of recent research efforts on combating the time and frequency asynchronism of the cooperative communication *** focus on the signal designs (or space-time codings/modulations) to achieve full cooperative diversity,and summarize some of the resent distributed space-timing coding and space-frequency coding techniques to combat timing errors and frequency offsets,and in the meantime to achieve full cooperative diversity,in both one-way and two-way cooperative networks.

Arabidopsis K＋ transporter I （AKT1） participates in K＋ uptake in roots, especially under Iow-K conditions. We recently identified a Ca2＋ signaling pathway consisting of multiple calcineurin B-like calcium sensors （CBLs） and multiple target kinases （CBL-interacting protein kinases or CIPKs） that phosphorylate and activate AKT1, whereas a specific PP2C-type phosphatase inactivates CIPK-dependent AKT1 activity. In this study, we analyzed the interactions between PP2Cs and the CBL-CIPK pathway and found previously unsuspected mechanisms underlying the CBL-CIPK-PP2C signaling processes. The interaction between the CIPKs and PP2Cs involves the kinase domain of the CIPK component, in addition to the protein phosphatase interacting motif （PPI） in the regulatory domain. Furthermore, specific CBLs physically interact with and inactivate PP2C phosphatases to recover the CIPK-dependent AKT1 channel activity. These findings provide fur- ther insights into the signaling network consisting of CBL-CIPK-PP2C interactions in the activation of the AKT1 channel.

It is attractive to formulate problems in computer vision and related fields in term of probabilis- tic estimation where the probability models are defined over graphs, such as grammars. The graphical struc- tures, and the state variables defined over them, give a rich knowledge representation which can describe the complex structures of objects and images. The proba- bility distributions defined over the graphs capture the statistical variability of these structures. These proba- bility models can be learnt from training data with lim- ited amounts of supervision. But learning these models suffers from the difficulty of evaluating the normaliza- tion constant, or partition function, of the probability distributions which can be extremely computationally demanding. This paper shows that by placing bounds on the normalization constant we can obtain compu- rationally tractable approximations. Surprisingly, for certain choices of loss functions, we obtain many of the standard max-margin criteria used in support vector machines （SVMs） and hence we reduce the learning to standard machine learning methods. We show that many machine learning methods can be obtained in this way as approximations to probabilistic methods including multi-class max-margin, ordinal regression, max-margin Markov networks and parsers, multiple- instance learning, and latent SVM. We illustrate this work by computer vision applications including image labeling, object detection and localization, and motion estimation. We speculate that rained by using better bounds better results can be ob- and approximations.
