Changes in Subjective Sleep,Physical Condition,and Mental Health during the COVID-19 Pandemic:A Nationwide Survey in Japan

This study aimed to investigate how people’s subjective health changed after the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** survey was conducted in May 2021 as a nationwide online self-reported survey in *** respondents indicated how their sleep,physical condition,and mental state altered after the ***,they answered questionnaires about their intention to get vaccinated,the means of gathering information,etc.A logistic regression analysis was *** the 2,573 responses,there was a decline of approximately 13.6%,14.0%,and 23.8%in subjective sleep,physical condition,and mental health after the pandemic,*** logistic regression analysis demonstrated that regarding sleep,the affected group was younger,got vaccinated against influenza annually,had lower income,experienced poor sleep quality in the past month,and had worse physical and psychiatric symptoms than before the *** the physical condition,the affected group lived alone,witnessed deficient sleep quality in the past month,and had deteriorated mental health status than before the COVID-19 *** terms of mental status,the affected group was younger,females,had access to more sources of information,and experienced worse sleep and physical conditions than the unchanged or improved group(p<0.05).Each group indicated an association with the background factors,confirming that the subjective sleep,physical condition,and mental state affected each *** a preventive perspective,the results of this study suggested that factors such as youth,gender,sleep quality,pregnancy,reduced income,and greater access to information,may be necessary for physical and mental *** above-mentioned factors should be considered in light of community life and approached accordingly.

Brain inflammation in neurogenic hypertension

One likely mechanism of essential hypertension(EH) is increased sympathoexcitation due to abnormal functions in the cardiovascular center of the brain. Recent findings obtained using experimental animal models of EH have shown that abnormal inflammation in the cardiovascular center may contribute to the onset of hypertension. Inflammatory molecules such as cytokines and reactive oxygen species released from the inflamed vasculature and glial cells in the medulla oblongata and hypothalamus might directly or indirectly affect neuronal functions. This in turn could increase sympathetic nerve activity and consequently arterial pressure. Abnormal inflammatory responses in the brain could also be central mechanisms underlying angiotensin Ⅱ-related EH. In this review, we present the current understanding of EH mechanisms with regard to inflammatory responses in the cardiovascular center.

Grain refining in weld metal using short-pulsed laser ablation during CW laser welding of 2024-T3 aluminum alloy

The 2024 aluminum alloy is used extensively in the aircraft and aerospace industries because of its excellent mechanical ***,the weldability of 2024 aluminum alloy is generally low because it contains a high number of solutes,such as copper(Cu),magnesium(Mg),and manganese(Mn),causing solidification *** high speed welding of 2024 aluminum alloy without the use of filler is achieved,the applicability of 2024 aluminum alloys will *** refining is one of the methods used to prevent solidification cracking in weld metal,although it has never been achieved for high-speed laser welding of 2024 aluminum alloy without ***,we propose a short-pulsed,laser-induced,grain-refining method during continuous wave laser welding without ***-on-plate welding was performed on a 2024-T3 aluminum alloy at a welding speed of 1 m min−1 with a single mode fiber laser at a wavelength of 1070 nm and power of 1 *** in and around the molten pool were irradiated with nanosecond laser pulses at a wavelength of 1064 nm,pulse width of 10 ns,and pulse energy of 430 *** grain-refinement effect was confirmed when laser pulses were irradiated on the molten *** grain-refinement region was formed in a semicircular shape along the solid–liquid *** of the vertical section indicate that the grain-refinement region reached a depth of 1 mm along the solid–liquid *** Vickers hardness test results demonstrated that the hardness increased as a result of grain refinement and that the progress of solidification cracking was suppressed in the grain refinement region.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a major cause of liver disease around the *** includes a spectrum of conditions from simple steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)and can lead to fibrosis,cirrhosis,liver failure,and/or hepatocellular *** is also associated with other medical conditions such as obesity,diabetes mellitus(DM),metabolic syn-drome,hypertension,insulin resistance,hyperlipidemia,and cardiovascular disease(CVD).In diabetes,chronic hyperglycemia contributes to the development of both macro-and microvascular conditions through a variety of metabolic ***,it can cause a variety of metabolic and hemodynamic conditions,including upregulated advanced glycation end-products(AGEs)*** our previous study,the most abundant type of toxic AGEs(TAGE);i.e.,glyceraldehyde-derived AGEs,were found to make a significant contribution to the pathogenesis of DM-induced ***,accumulating evidence suggests that the binding of TAGE with their receptor(RAGE)induces oxidative damage,promotes inflammation,and causes changes in intracellular signaling and the expression levels of certain genes in various cell populations including hepatocytes and hepatic stellate *** of these effects could facilitate the pathogenesis of hypertension,cancer,diabetic vascular complications,CVD,dementia,and ***,inhibiting TAGE synthesis,preventing TAGE from binding to RAGE,and downregulating RAGE expression and/or the expression of associated effector molecules all have potential as therapeutic strategies against ***,we examine the contributions of RAGE and TAGE to various conditions and novel treatments that target them in order to prevent the development and/or progression of NASH.

Organelle genome assembly uncovers the dynamic genome reorganization and cytoplasmic male sterility associated genes in tomato

To identify cytoplasmic male sterility(CMS)-associated genes in tomato,we determined the genome sequences of mitochondria and chloroplasts in three CMS tomato lines derived from independent asymmetric cell fusions,their nuclear and cytoplasmic donors,and male fertile weedy cultivated tomato and wild *** structures of the CMS mitochondrial genomes were highly divergent from those of the nuclear and cytoplasmic donors,and genes of the donors were mixed up in these *** the other hand,the structures of CMS chloroplast genomes were moderately conserved across the donors,but CMS chloroplast genes were unexpectedly likely derived from the nuclear *** analysis of the structures and contents of organelle genes and transcriptome analysis identified three genes that were uniquely present in the CMS lines,but not in the donor or fertile ***-sequencing analysis indicated that these three genes transcriptionally expressed in anther,and identified different RNA editing levels in one gene,orf265,that was partially similar to ATP synthase subunit 8,between fertile and sterile *** orf265 was a highly potential candidate for CMS-associated *** study suggests that organelle reorganization mechanisms after cell fusion events differ between mitochondria and chloroplasts,and provides insight into the development of new F1 hybrid breeding programs employing the CMS system in tomato.

A new on-machine profiler employing a cantilever beam was proposed and developed to measure the sharp micro-cutting edges of precision cutting tools with low measuring force of 0.1 *** proposed profiler consists of a probe unit and a positioning *** probe unit employs a stylus mounted on the free end of a hollow triangular cantilever beam and a laser displacement sensor to detect the detlection of the cantilever *** positioning unit consists of two single-axis DC servo motor stages for precise positioning of the probe *** cantilever is designed with the assistance of the finite element *** order to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed measurement system,experiments are conducted and the measurement result for a micro-cutting edge is compared with that by a commercial ***,a method to com-pensate for the measurement error caused by the lateral displacement of the cantilever beam is *** compensated measurement results show good agreement within±2μm with those obtained by the commercial profler.

Transgenic plants for allergen-specific immunotherapy

Allergen-specific immunotherapy(IT) is an effective treatment for allergic diseases. Although subcutaneous and sublingual ITs are currently used,safer,easier,and more effective IT is under development. Induction of immune tolerance by oral administration of allergen has been proven,though oral IT has not been applied clinically. It is mainly because a large amount of purified allergen is required to induce oral tolerance. To overcome this problem,plants,peculiarly rice,have been investigated as allergen vehicles for oral IT. Rice can store a considerable amount of expressed allergen in its seeds and the accumulated allergen is stable and resistant to gastrointestinal digestion. Therefore,we have developed transgenic rice seeds(Tg rice) in which major epitopes of cedar pollen or house dust mites are expressed. We are establishing Tg rice with demonstrated efficacy in murine models of allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma by oral administration at practicaldoses. In addition,the amount,distribution,and allergenicity of the expressed allergen have been improved in our Tg rice. Rice-based oral IT is a promising new concept in IT for the treatment of allergic diseases.

In this research project,we focus on sports hospitality at the Rugby World Cup 2019 as a practical example of the qualitative pursuit of sports tourism in the Japanese tourism *** Japan K.K.,Japan’s first company specializing in sports hospitality,hosted the first mega sports event held in Japan.A similar spectator service will next be implemented at the Tokyo Olympics and *** hospitality is a new way to enjoy watching sports by adding a meal and entertainment before and after the match to the event *** and using sports hospitality as a tourism experience product,we can use qualitatively designed creative and effective methods that professional human resources could provide to *** research project provides an overview of tourism experience products,looks at their economic effects at the Rugby World Cup 2019,and the sales results of the sports hospitality at the event.I conducted an observation survey at the Rugby World Cup 2019 Scotland *** match held at Misaki Park Stadium(Kobe,Hyogo)on September 30,2019 focusing only on tourism products in that framework.I also conducted a qualitative survey on March 18,2020 in a semi-structured interview format with STH Japan *** *** research results revealed the possibility of eliminating overtourism in spectator sports and the lack of sports hospitality spaces in ***,when watching a sports match where many spectators gather,the uniform start and end times cause crowding and *** conventional challenge has been to create tourism products that reduce congestion and provide an enjoyable tourism *** hospitality is effective for relieving the stress caused by overtourism in spectator *** order to solve the shortage of sports hospitality spaces,one issue to consider is the deregulation by the government.

Robust two-gap strong coupling superconductivity associated with low-lying phonon modes in pressurized Nb5Ir3O superconductors

We report robust superconducting state and gap symmetry of Nb5Ir3O via electrical transport and specific heat measurements. The analysis of specific heat manifests that Nb5Ir3O is a strongly coupled superconductor with ΔC/γnTc ~ 1.91 and double s-wave superconducting gaps of 2ΔL(0)/kBTc ~ 6.56 and 2ΔS(0)/kBTc ~ 2.36 accounting for 90% and 10%,respectively. The(Cp-γnT)/T^3 vs. T plot shows a broad peak at ~ 23 K, indicating phonon softening and the appearance of low-lying phonon mode associated with the interstitial oxygen. This behavior explains the monotonic increase of Tc in Nb5Ir3O(1-δ)by strengthening the electron-phonon coupling and enlarging the density of states at Fermi level. The Hall coefficient is temperature independent below 200 K, and changes its sign from positive to negative above 250 K, suggesting that carrier is across the hole-to electron-dominant regions and the multi-band electronic structures. On warming, the resistivity shows a gradual crossover from T^2-to T^3-dependence at a critical temperature T^*, and a broad peak at a temperature Tp. The reduced Tc under pressure is linearly correlated with lattice parameters c/a ratio and Tp, suggesting the important phonon contributions in Nb5Ir3O as a phonon-medicated superconductor. Possible physical mechanisms are proposed.
