AIM:To determine the agreement of ocular biometric indices including axial length,keratometric readings,anterior chamber depth,and horizontal corneal diameter between the Pentacam AXL and IOL Master ***:The study was a large cross-sectional population-based study(tehran Geriatric Eye Study)conducted from Jan 2019 to Jan 2020.A total of 160 clusters were randomly selected proportional to size(each cluster contained 20 individuals)from 22 strata of tehran *** people aged 60y and above were invited to participate in the *** all participants,preliminary ocular examinations were performed including the measurement of uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity,objective and subjective refraction,anterior and posterior segment *** participants underwent an ocular biometry using the Pentacam AXL and IOL Master ***:The 95%limits of agreement(LoA)between the two devices were-0.13 to 0.19,-0.15 to 0.17,and-0.13 to 0.19 in normal,pseudophakic,and cataractous eyes,*** increasing the axial length,the difference between the two devices significantly increased in all three groups of normal,pseudophakic,and cataractous eyes(P<0.001).The 95% LoAs between the two devices regarding the mean keratometry shows that the best LoAs were seen in cataractous(-0.33 to 0.81)and followed by normal eyes(-0.36 to 0.86)and the pseudophakic eyes(-0.48 to 0.90)had the widest *** 95% LoAs for horizontal corneal diameter measurements were-0.08 to 0.86,-0.03 to 0.83,and-0.07 to 0.87 in normal,pseudophakic,and cataractous eyes,*** 95% LoAs of anterior chamber depth measurements between the two devices was-0.39 to 0.19 and-0.37 to 0.13 in normal eyes and cataractous,***:The Pentacam AXL has excellent agreement with the gold standard,IOL Master 500 in measuring axial *** eyes with cataracts,the difference between the two devices is more *** the increasing of axial length,the difference between the

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL)is a malignancy of bone marrow lymphoid *** effective treatments,the causes of its progression or recurrence are still *** prognostic biomarkers is needed for early diagnosis and more effective *** study was performed to identify long non-coding RNAs(lncRNAs)involved in ALL progression by constructing a competitive endogenous RNA(ceRNA)*** lncRNAs may serve as potential new biomarkers in the development of *** GSE67684 dataset identiﬁed changes in lncRNAs and mRNAs involved in ALL *** from this study were re-analyzed,and probes related to lncRNAs were ***,miRTarBase,and miRcode databases were used to identify microRNAs(miRNAs)related to the discovered genes and *** ceRNA network was constructed,and the candidate lncRNAs were ***,the results were validated with reverse transcription quantitative real-time PCR(RT-qPCR).The ceRNA network outcomes demonstrated that the top lncRNAs associated with altered mRNAs in ALL are IRF1-AS1,MCM3AP-AS1,TRAF3IP2-AS1,HOTAIRM1,CRNDE,and *** of the subnets linked to MCM3AP-AS1,TRAF3IP2-AS1,and IRF1-AS1 indicated that these lncRNAs were considerably related to pathways associated with inﬂammation,metastasis,and *** expression levels of IRF1-AS1,MCM3AP-AS1,TRAF3IP2-AS1,CRNDE,and TUG1 were found in ALL samples compared to *** expression of MCM3AP-AS1,TRAF3IP2-AS1,and IRF1-AS1 is signiﬁcantly elevated during the progression of ALL,playing an oncogenic *** to their role in the main cancer pathways,lncRNAs could be suitable therapeutic and diagnostic targets in ALL.

Bio-ecology of malaria vectors in an endemic area,Southeast of Iran

Objective:To determine some bio-ecological aspects of malaria vectors in Jask County,where is targeted for malaria elimination in the national ***:Mosquitoes were collected monthly during 2013-2014 using different collection ***,ELISA test was used to detect the human blood index of *** susceptibility status of Anopheles stephensi was evaluated against the diagnostic dosages of seven WHO recommended ***:A total of 3 650 female and 4 736 Anopheles larvae were collected including Anopheles stephensi,Anopheles culicifacies s.l.,Anopheles *** fluviatilis s.l.,Anopheles moghulensis and Anopheles turkhodi *** stephensi was the dominant collected species on human baits and indoors with high rate of unfed and gravid specimens in internal and external window *** blood index was calculated as 14.3%for this *** was also found to be resistant to DDT and ***:The collected species had a wide range of habitats,and resting *** regarding to the presence of most important malaria vectors in *** of the disease may be so complicated;as based on the weather condition it can be transmitted during the whole year,except for cold *** this strong potential of transmission,existing population movements in the area may lead to imported cases of malaria and local outbreak(s).So,more specific studies on malaria vectors in high risk areas of Jask County are recommended.

Dual effects of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy) on survival and apoptosis of primary hippocampal neurons

BACKGROUND： 3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine （MDMA, also known as ＂ecstasy＂） has been shown to exhibit neurotoxic effects on the hippocampus. However, exposure to sub-lethal insults of MDMA has been reported to result in neuroprotection. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effects of MDMA on hippocampal neuronal viability, caspase-3 activity, and mRNA expression of the N-methyI-D-aspartate （NMDA） receptor 2B （NR2B） subunit. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A cytological, in vitro experiment was performed at the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine, and Department of Toxicology-Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy tehran university of medical sciences in 2008. MATERIALS： MDMA was extracted from ecstasy tablets, which were kindly supplied by the Pharmacology-Toxicology Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, tehran university of medical sciences, Iran. METHODS： Hippocampal neurons were isolated from Wistar rats at gestational day 18. Following primary culture, hippocampal neuronal viability was detected by MTT assay. Varying concentrations of MDMA （100-5 000 μmol/L） were used to determine lethal concentration 50 （LC50）, which was around 1 500 μmol/L. Five concentrations of MDMA below 1 500 μmol/L （100, 200, 400, 800, and 1 050 μmol/L） were used for the remaining experiments. After 24 hours of MDMA treatment, NR2B mRNA expression was detected by RT-PCR, and caspase-3 relative activity was determined by colorimetric assay. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Hippocampal neuronal viability, caspase-3 activity, and NR2B mRNA expression. RESULTS： MDMA-induced neurotoxicity in hippocampal neuronal cultures was dose-dependent. In high concentrations （1 000-5 000μmol/L） of MDMA, neuronal viability was decreased. However, with a 500 μmol/L dose of MDMA, neuronal viability was significantly increased （P 〈 0.01）. Low concentrations of MDMA （200 and 400μmol/L） significantly decreased caspase-3 activity （P 〈 0.01）, whereas high concentrations of MDMA significantly increased caspase-3 activity （P 〈 0.01）. NR2B

Comparison of efficacy of folic acid and silymarin in the management of antiepileptic drug induced liver injury:a randomized clinical trial

BACKGROUND： Liver injury associated with antiepileptic drugs accounts for a large proportion of drug-induced liver injuries （DILI） in children. Although withdrawal of the causative agent is the only proved treatment for DILI, in some dinical situations it is not possible. Recent studies have reported promising results of using hepatoprotective drugs with antioxidant actions for the management of DILl. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of folic acid versus silymarin treatment in relation to decreasing liver enzymes in patients with DILI due to antiepileptic therapy. METHODS： This randomized, open-label, clinical trial evalu- ated 55 children with epilepsy who were on antiepileptic treat- ment and experienced DILL The children were randomized to receive either silymarin （5 mg/kg per day） or folic acid （1 mg per day） for one month and were followed up for three months. RESULTS： Liver enzymes significantly decreased in both groups. The decrease trend in alanine aminotransferase （ALT） and aspartate aminotransferase （AST） were stronger in the folic acid group compared to silymarin group （P=0.04 and P=0.007, respectively）. At the end of the study patients in the folic acid group had significantly lower ALT （P=0.04）, AST （P=0.02）, and gamma-glntamyl transferase （GGT）（P〈0.001） levels and also higher percentage of normal ALT （30.7% vs 3.4%, P=0.009） and AST （42.3% vs 0%, P〈0.001）, and GGT （23.1% vs 0%, P=0.008） values compared to the patients in the silymarin group. No rebound elevations in ALT, AST and GGT levels or adverse reactions were noted in neither of the study ***： Although both treatments were safe and effective in decreasing liver enzymes, folic acid seems to be superior to silymarin in the management of DILl.

Objective:To establish a spatial geo-database for scorpions in Iran,and to identify the suitable ecological niches for the most dangerous scorpion species under different climate change ***:The spatial distribution of six poisonous scorpion species of Iran were modeled:Hemiscorpius lepturus,Androctonus crassicauda,Mesobuthus eupeus,Hottentotta saulcyi,Hottentotta zagrosensis,and Odontobuthus(O.)doriae,under RCP2.6 and RCP8.5 climate change *** Max Ent ecological niche model was used to predict climate suitability for these scorpion species in the 2030 s and 2050 s,and the data were compared with environmental suitability under the current bioclimatic ***:A total of 73 species and subspecies of scorpions belonging to 19 genera in Iran were *** Province has the highest species diversity with 34 species and *** most poisonous scorpion species of Iran are scattered in the semi-arid climates,at an altitudinal range between 11 m and 2954 m above sea *** is projected that ***,Androctonus crassicauda and Mesobuthus eupeus species would be widely distributed in most parts of the country,whereas the most suitable ecological niches for the other species would be limited to the west and/or southwestern part of ***:Although the environmental suitability for all the species would change under the two climate change scenarios,the change would be more significant for *** under RCP8.5 in the 2050 *** findings can be used as basis for future studies in the areas with the highest environmental suitability for the most dangerous scorpion species to fill the gaps in the ecology of scorpion species in these areas.

Objective:To determine the significance of temperature,rainfall and humidity in the seasonal abundance of Anopheles stephensi in southern ***:Data on the monthly abundance of Anopheles stephensi larvae and adults were gathered from earlier studies conducted between 2002 and 2019 in malaria prone areas of southeastern *** data for the studied counties were obtained from climatology *** estimating equations method was used for cluster correlation of data for each study site in different ***:A significant relationship was found between monthly density of adult and larvae of Anopheles stephensi and precipitation,max temperature and mean temperature,both with simple and multiple generalized estimating equations analysis(P<0.05).But when analysis was done with one month lag,only relationship between monthly density of adults and larvae of Anopheles stephensi and max temperature was significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:This study provides a basis for developing multivariate time series models,which can be used to develop improved appropriate epidemic prediction systems for these ***-term entomological study in the studied sites by expert teams is recommended to compare the abundance of malaria vectors in the different areas and their association with climatic variables.

Objective: To evaluate the susceptibility of Anopheles stephensi(An. stephensi) Liston, the main malaria vector in southern Iran, to WHO recommended insecticides. Methods: Larvae of An. stephensi were collected from three different larval habitats in both urban and rural area of Bandar Abbas city and one rural area in Rudan county southern Iran. WHO standard method was used for evaluation of adult and larval mosquito susceptibility. Bendiocarb, permethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, deltamethrin as insecticide and temephos and chlorpyriphos as larvicide were used at the diagnostic dosages recommended by WHO. Results: Findings of this study showed all larval populations of An. stephensi were completely susceptible to temephos and candidate for resistance to chlorpyriphos. Adult mosquitoes in rural areas of Bandar Abbas city were resistant to pyrethroid and carbamate insecticides. Conclusion: Comparison of the results of this survey with previous studies indicates that the resistance to pyrethroids and carbamates in this malaria endemic region is increasing. Wide use of pesticides in agriculture is certainly effective in increasing resistance. The inter-sectoral coordination and collaboration in health and agriculture seem to be necessary to manage insecticide resistance in malaria vectors.
