Disinfection Byproducts and Their Precursors in Drinking Water Sources:Origins,Influencing Factors,and Environmental Insights

Tracing the contamination origins in water sources and identifying the impacts of natural and human processes are essential for ecological safety and public ***,current analysis approaches are not ideal,as they tend to be laborious,time-consuming,or technically *** byproducts(DBPs)are a family of well-known secondary pollutants formed by the reactions of chemical disinfectants with DBP precursors during water disinfection *** DBP precursors have various origins(e.g.,natural,domestic,industrial,and agricultural sources),and since the formation of DBPs from different precursors in the presence of specific disinfectants is distinctive,we argue that DBPs and DBP precursors can serve as alternative indicators to assess the contamination in water sources and identify pollution *** providing a retrospective of the origins of DBPs and DBP precursors,as well as the specific formation patterns of DBPs from different precursors,this article presents an overview of the impacts of various natural and anthropogenic factors on DBPs and DBP precursors in drinking water *** practice,the DBPs(i.e.,their concentration and speciation)originally present in source water and the DBP precursors determined using DBP formation potential tests—in which water samples are dosed with a stoichiometric excess of specific disinfectants in order to maximize DBP formation under certain reaction conditions—can be considered as alternative *** jointly used with other water quality parameters(e.g.,dissolved organic carbon,dissolved organic nitrogen,fluorescence,and molecular weight distribution)and specific contaminants of emerging concern(e.g.,certain pharmaceuticals and personal care products),DBPs and DBP precursors in drinking water sources can provide a more comprehensive picture of water pollution for better managing water resources and ensuring human health.

Calcium Carbonate and Ettringite Induced Efflorescence in CAC-Anhydrite Binary Systems

We focused on the efflorescence induced microstructural evolution of ettringite-rich systems prepared with calcium aluminate cement(CAC)and *** effects of anhydrite on the visible efflorescence,and the corresponding capillary absorption of CAC-anhydrite mortars were *** composition and microstructure of efflorescence-causing substances were investigated by optical microscope,in-situ Raman spectroscopy,scanning electron microscope,energy dispersive spectrometer,thermogravimetric analysis,and differential scanning calorimetry,at *** indicate that,besides the calcium carbonate,ettringite is another main component of efflorescence-causing *** with the neat CAC mortars,the addition of anhydrite has a significant effect on the degree of efflorescence by acting on the composition of hydration products and pore *** addition,methods are proposed for the prevention of efflorescence of CAC-anhydrite binary system.

Multiscale analysis-based peridynamic simulation of fracture in porous media

The simulation of fracture in large-scale structures made of porous media remains a challenging *** techniques either assume a homogeneous model,disregarding the microstructure characteristics,or adopt a micro-mechanical model,which incurs an intractable computational cost due to its complex stochastic geometry and physical properties,as well as its nonlinear and multiscale *** this study,we propose a multiscale analysis-based dual-variable-horizon peridynamics(PD)model to efficiently simulate macroscopic structural *** influence of microstructures in porous media on macroscopic structural failure is represented by two PD parameters:the equivalent critical stretch and *** equivalent critical stretch is calculated using the microscale PD model,while the equivalent micro-modulus is obtained through the homogenization method and energy density equivalence between classical continuum mechanics and PD *** examples of porous media with various microstructures demonstrate the validity,accuracy,and efficiency of the proposed method.

Antimicrobial resistance(AMR)poses a critical threat to global health and development,with environmental factors—particularly in urban areas—contributing significantly to the spread of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs).However,most research to date has been conducted at a local level,leaving significant gaps in our understanding of the global status of antibiotic resistance in urban *** address this issue,we thoroughly analyzed a total of 86,213 ARGs detected within 4,728 metagenome samples,which were collected by the Meta SUB International Consortium involving diverse urban environments in 60 cities of 27 countries,utilizing a deep-learning based *** findings demonstrated the strong geographical specificity of urban environmental resistome,and their correlation with various local socioeconomic and medical *** also identified distinctive evolutionary patterns of ARG-related biosynthetic gene clusters(BGCs)across different countries,and discovered that the urban environment represents a rich source of novel *** study provides a comprehensive overview of the global urban environmental resistome,and fills a significant gap in our knowledge of large-scale urban antibiotic resistome analysis.

本文提出了一种基于生成对抗网络的全球海表面温度(sea surface temperature,SST)偏差订正及降尺度整合模型.该模型的生成器使用偏差订正模块将数值模式预测结果进行校正,再用可复用的共享降尺度模块将订正后的数据分辨率逐次提高.该模型的判别器可鉴别偏差订正及降尺度结果的质量,以此为标准进行对抗训练。同时,在对抗损失函数中含有物理引导的动力学惩罚项以提高模型的性能.本研究基于分辨率为1°的GFDL SPEAR模式的SST预测结果,选择遥感系统(Remote Sensing System)的观测资料作为真值,面向月尺度ENSO与IOD事件以及天尺度海洋热浪事件开展了验证试验:模型在将分辨率提高到0.0625°×0.0625°的同时将预测误差减少约90.3%,突破了观测数据分辨率的限制,且与观测结果的结构相似性高达96.46%.

Since DBP precursors have various origins(e.g., natural, domestic, industrial, and agricultural sources), and since the formation of DBPs from different precursors in the presence of specific disinfectants is distinctive, we argue that DBPs and DBP precursors can serve as alternative indicators to assess the contamination in water sources and identify pollution origins. After providing a retrospective of the origins of DBPs and DBP precursors, as well as the specific formation patterns of DBPs from different precursors, this article presents an overview of the impacts of various natural and anthropogenic factors on DBPs and DBP precursors in drinking water sources. Time-dependent matrix metalloproteinases and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases expression change in fusarium solani keratitis

AIM： To investigate matrix metalloproteinases（MMPs）and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases（TIMPs）expression during the progress of fusarium solani（***） keratitis in a rat model.· METHODS： A rat model of *** keratitis was produced using corneal scarification and a hand-made contact lens. MMPs and TIMPs expressiond were explored in this rat model of *** keratitis using real-time polymerase chain reaction（PCR） and ***6001（400 μmol/m L） was used to treat infected corneas. The keratitis duration, amount and area of corneal neovascularization（CNV） were evaluated.·RESULTS： MMP-3 expression was 66.3 times higher in infected corneas compared to normal corneas. MMP-8,-9,and-13 expressions were significantly upregulated in the mid-period of the infection, with infected- to-normal ratios of 4.03, 39.86, and 5.94, respectively. MMP-2 and-7expressions increased in the late period, with the infected-to-normal ratios of 5.94 and 16.22, ***-1 expression was upregulated in the early period,and it was 43.17 times higher in infected compared to normal corneas, but TIMP-2,-3, and-4 expressions were mildly downregulated or unchanged. The results of DIF were consistent with the result of real-time ***6001, a MMPs inhibitor, decreased the duration of *** infection and the amount and area of CNV.·CONCLUSION： MMPs and TIMPs contributed into the progress of *** keratitis.

Modeling of Carbon Monoxide Removal by Corona Plasma

Modeling of carbon monoxide （CO） removal by a corona plasma was conducted in this study. The purification efficiency of CO was calculated theoretically and the factors affecting the removal of CO were analyzed. The results showed that the main removal mechanisms of CO were direct dissociation by generated high-energy electrons and indirect oxidation by generated hydroxyl radicals. The purification efficiency of CO was dependent on the plasma parameters, indoor air humidity and initial concentration of CO. Good consistency between the theoretical calculation and the experimental results was observed.

Dear Editor, Congenital idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism （CIHH） is a rare congenital disorder characterized by delayed or absent sexual maturation and infertility associated with inappropriately low gonadotropin and sex steroid levels. We report a 34-year-old patient with CIHH accompanying with metabolic syndrome （MS） and diabetes.

Model of Underground Ant Nest Structure Using Static and Dynamic Finite Element Analysis

Additionally,ant nests are often surrounded by trees and other natural *** this study, the natural underground ant nests of Iridomyrmex anceps were gathered from different collection *** cutting and frozen computer numerical control milling were performed on the ant nests in a *** internal structure of each nest was measured and recorded,and then, the 2D and 3D numerical structure models of the Iridomyrmex anceps nest were *** static and dynamic simulation analysis of an underground ant nest structure was performed by using finite element analysis software (ABAQUS),and the mechanical properties of the ant nest were *** underground ant nest structure effectively resisted the additional stress due to external static and live loads,and the ant nest was not completely destroyed.
