Objective: To outline the antibacterial, antioxidant, a-glucosidase inhibition and anticancer properties of Michelia nilagirica(M. nilagirica) bark ***: The antibacterial activity of bark extracts against human pathogens was assessed by disc diffusion assay. Phytochemical screening, total phenols, flavonoids content, antioxidant and a-glucosidase inhibition properties of bark extracts were investigated by standard methods. In vitro anticancer activity of ethyl acetate extract at various concentrations was observed against Hep G2 cells using MTT [3-(4, 5-dimethyl thiazol-2 yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide] assay. The presence of diverse bioactive constituents in the ethyl acetate extract was identified using FT-IR and GC–MS ***: Ethyl acetate extract was found to be the promising agent against human pathogens tested. The ethyl acetate extracts showed the presence of various phytochemicals and comprised the substantial content of phenolics and flavonoids. The ethyl acetate extract showed better antioxidant activities and also revealed remarkable reducing power ability and a-glucosidase inhibition property. The dose dependent assay of extract showed remarkable cancer cell death with IC_(50) value of(303.26 ± 2.30) mg/m L. FTIR and GC–MS results indicated the presence of major bioactive constituents in the ethyl acetate extract of M. nilagirica ***: Revealing the first report on in vitro biological properties and chemical composition analysis of M. nilagirica bark extract, our study implied that this plant could be of great importance in food and pharmaceutical industries.

A field study was undertaken to ascertain the effects of elicitors viz. benzothiadiazole （BTH） and salicylic acid （SA） on defense related enzymes viz. peroxidase, phenylalanine ammonia lyase, superoxide dismutase, chitinase and 13-1,3-glucanase, and phenols in rice （Pusa Basmati I） plants. First foliar spray of BTH （50 mg/kg） and SA （50 mg/kg） was done at the maximum tillering stage and inoculation with Rhizoctonia solani was carried 24 h after elicitor treatment. Elicitors were further sprayed at every growth stage. Time course analysis showed peak accumulation of defense related enzymes and phenols in the rice leaves treated with BTH and SA, and accumulation was the highest at the flowering stage. Higher enzymatic activity was observed in elicitor treated plants inoculated with R. solani. Compared to the untreated control plants, application of elicitors before R. solani inoculation significantly elicited the defense related enzymes and phenols. Moreover, application of elicitors had a positive effect on yield and disease reduction. It is suggested that pretreatment of rice leaves with BTH and SA could be used to enhance the level of protection against sheath blight and to improve rice yield in the fields.

OBJECTIVE:To conduct an ethnobotanical survey and document the traditional anticancer and antidiabetic plants used by the local tribes of Mizoram,Northeast ***:A systematic survey was conducted in rural and urban areas of Mizoram by interviewing traditional practitioners,and cancer and diabetes patients.A detailed literature search was carried out using MEDLINE and SCOPUS and available literatures were selected and included in the *** use value(UV)of the selected plants was calculated based on the number of citations per species given by ***:Data was obtained for 201 traditional medicinal plants from Mizoram,Northeast *** plants were from 72 different families and belonged to 140 *** these,103 plants were reported for the first time as possessing either anticancer or antidiabetic potential,and 105 plants were identified that were used for the treatment of both *** plants(Phlogacanthus thysiformis,Solanum gilo and Lobelia angulata)with antidiabetic potential,and six plants(Dillenia scabrella,Circium sinesis,Eupatorium nodiflorum,Pratia begonifolia,Vernonia teres and Plantago erosa)with both as anticancer and antidiabetic potential were documented for the first ***:In this study,we documented several explored and unexplored medicinal plants that may be useful for the management of cancer and *** study suggests that there is a broad scope fordeveloping potent anticancer and antidiabetic agent from the flora of Mizoram,Northeast India.

Employment of Jacobian elliptic functions for solving problems in nonlinear dynamics of microtubules

We show how Jacobian elliptic functions （JEFs） can be used to solve ordinary differential equations （ODEs） describing the nonlinear dynamics of microtubules （MTs）. We demonstrate that only one of the JEFs can be used while the remaining two do not represent the solutions of the crucial differential equation. We show that a kinkbtype soliton moves along MTs. Besides this solution, we also discuss a few more solutions that may or may not have physical meanings. Finally, we show what kind of ODE can be solved by using JEFs.

Among many types of proteinaceous filaments, microtubules （MTs） constitute the most rigid components of the cellular cytoskeleton. Microtubule dynamics is essential for many vital cellular processes such as intracellular transport, metabolism, and cell division. We investigate the nonlinear dynamics of inhomogeneous microtubulin systems and the MT dynamics is found to be governed by a perturbed sine-Gordon equation. In the presence of various competing nonlinear inhomogeneities, it is shown that this nonlinear model can lead to the existence of kink and antikink solitons moving along MTs. We demonstrate kink-antikink pair collision in the framework of Hirota＇s bilinearization method. We conjecture that the collisions of the quanta of energy propagating in the form of kinks and antikinks may offer a new view of the mechanism of the retrograde and anterograde transport direction regulation of motor proteins in microtubulin systems.

Objective:To evaluate the in vitro biofilm forming capacity on abiotic food contact surfaces by Vibrio harveyi(***)***:Thirty six Gram-negative *** strains were isolated from various street vended seafood outlets in a food processing line and evaluated for their ability to produce mucoid biofilms on food contact surfaces using a microplate *** characterization of mucoid biofilm producing *** strains were screened on Congo red agar,thiosulfate-citrate-bile salts-sucrose agar and tryptic soy agar,***:Only five *** strains(14%)were mucoid biofilm producers characterized by formation of black colonies,whereas the remaining 31 strains(86%)were not capable of producing biofilm characterized by formation of red colonies or pinkish-red colonies with darkening at the *** morphological,physiological and biochemical characteristics of these isolates were studied using standard *** identification was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction targeted to species-specific polymerase chain reaction primers VH-1 and VH-2 corresponding to variable regions of *** 16S rRNA *** the biofilm-forming strains showed resistance to at least three antimicrobial compounds *** strains isolated from various seafood were able to form biofilms of different capacity,and the strains VB267,VB238 and VB166 isolated from cat fish,shrimp and eel fish exhibited significantly greater biofilm forming ability compared to other ***:It can be concluded from the present study that the strain VB166 was able to better attach and form subsequent biofilms on glass and stainless steel compared to high density *** properties allow these bacteria to survive,proliferate and persist in street vended seafood outlets.

In this study,the Z-type control method is applied to an intraguild crop-pest-natural enemy model,assuming that the natural enemy can predate on both crop and pest *** this purpose,the indirect Z-type controller is considered in the natural enemy *** providing the design function for the crop-pest-natural enemy model with Z-control,we find the analytical expression of the update *** findings indicate that the uncontrolled system can produce chaos through perioddoubling bifurcation due to crop over-consumption by the pest *** draw a Poincare map to confirm the occurrence of chaos and compute the maximum Lyapunov *** the observations further indicate that the pest population can be controlled by using an indirect Z-control mechanism in the natural enemy population,we postulate that,if natural enemy abundance can be governed by the update parameter,any desired pest population abundance can be achieved through the proposed Z-type controller,thus controlling the *** verify these assertions,extensive numerical simulations are performed to explore the potential for practical application of the proposed Z-type controller.
