Deconvolution is a commonly employed technique for enhancing image quality in optical imaging ***-nately,its application in optical coherence tomography(OCT)is often hindered by sensitivity to noise,which leads to ad-ditive ringing *** artifacts considerably degrade the quality of deconvolved images,thereby limiting its effect-iveness in OCT *** this study,we propose a framework that integrates numerical random phase masks into the deconvolution process,effectively eliminating these artifacts and enhancing image *** optimized joint operation of an iterative Richardson-Lucy deconvolution and numerical synthesis of random phase masks(RPM),termed as De-conv-RPM,enables a 2.5-fold reduction in full width at half-maximum(FWHM).We demonstrate that the Deconv-RPM method significantly enhances image clarity,allowing for the discernment of previously unresolved cellular-level details in nonkeratinized epithelial cells ex vivo and moving blood cells in vivo.

Understanding the surface processes(deposition and surface diffusion)that occur at or close to the surface of growing nanoparticles is important for fabricating reproducibly stellated or branched gold nanoparticles with precise control over arm length and spatial orientation of arms around the *** employing a simple seed-mediated strategy,we investigate the key synthetic variables for precise tuning of in situ surface processes(competition between the deposition and surface diffusion).These variables include the reduction rate of a reaction,the packing density of molecules/ions on the high surface energy facets,and *** a result,the thermodynamically stabilized nanoparticles(cuboctahedron and truncated cube)and kinetic products(cube,concave cube,octapod,stellated octahedron,and rhombic dodecahedron)in different sizes with high quantitative shape yield(>80%)can be obtained depending on the reduction rate of reaction and the packing density of molecules/*** computer simulation,we studied the stability of stellated(branched structure)and non-stellated(non-branched structure)gold nanoparticles at high *** construct a morphology phase diagram by varying different synthetic parameters,illustrating the formation of both stellated and non-stellated gold nanoparticles in a range of reaction *** stellated gold nanoparticles display shape-dependent optical properties and can be self-assembled into highly ordered superstructures to achieve an enhanced plasmonic *** strategy can be applied to other metal systems,allowing for the rational design of advanced new stellated metal nanoparticles with fascinating symmetry dependent plasmonic,catalytic,and electronic properties for technological applications.

Examining the retinal tissue has the potential to provide a unique method and technique to quantify Alzheimer’s disease-related changes in participants at various stages of the *** this metaanalysis,we aimed to investigate the association of various optical coherence tomography parameters with Alzheimer’s disease and whether retinal measurements can be used to diffe rentiate between Alzheimer’s disease and control *** databases including Google Schola r,Web of Science,and PubMed were systematically searched for published articles that evaluated retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and retinal microvascular network in Alzheimer’s disease and control ***-three studies(5850 participants,including 2249 Alzheimer’s disease patients and 3601controls) were included in this *** to controls,Alzheimer’s disease patients had a significantly lower global retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(standardized mean difference [SMD]=-0.79,95% confidence intervals [CI]:-1.03 to-0.54,P <0.00001) as well as each quadrant being thinner in Alzheimer’s disease versus *** macular paramete rs,values measured by optical coherence tomography were significantly lower in Alzheimer’s disease than controls for macular thickness(pooled SMD:-0.44,95% CI:-0.67 to-0.20,P=0.0003),foveal thickness(pooled SMD=-0.39,95% CI:-0.58 to-0.19,P <0.0001),ganglion cell inner plexiform layer(SMD=-1.26,95% CI:-2.24 to-0.27,P=0.01) and macular volume(pooled SMD=-0.41,95% CI-0.76 to-0.07,P=0.02).Analysis using optical coherence tomography angiography parameters revealed mixed results between Alzheimer’s disease and *** vessel density(pooled SMD=-0.42,95% CI:-0.68 to-0.17,P=0.0001) and deep vessel density(pooled SMD=-0.46,95% CI:-0.75 to-0.18,P=0.001) were found to be thinner in Alzheimer’s disease patients whereas the foveal avascular zone(SMD=0.84,95% CI:0.17-1.51,P=0.01) was larger in *** density and thickness of variou

Multiphasic scaffolds for the repair of osteochondral defects:Outcomes of preclinical studies

Osteochondral defects are caused by injury to both the articular cartilage and subchondral bone within skeletal joints. They can lead to irreversible joint damage and increase the risk of progression to osteoarthritis. Current treatments for osteochondral injuries are not curative and only target symptoms, highlighting the need for a tissue engineering solution. Scaffold-based approaches can be used to assist osteochondral tissue regeneration, where biomaterials tailored to the properties of cartilage and bone are used to restore the defect and minimise the risk of further joint degeneration. This review captures original research studies published since 2015, on multiphasic scaffolds used to treat osteochondral defects in animal models. These studies used an extensive range of biomaterials for scaffold fabrication, consisting mainly of natural and synthetic polymers. Different methods were used to create multiphasic scaffold designs, including by integrating or fabricating multiple layers, creating gradients, or through the addition of factors such as minerals, growth factors, and cells. The studies used a variety of animals to model osteochondral defects, where rabbits were the most commonly chosen and the vast majority of studies reported small rather than large animal models. The few available clinical studies reporting cell-free scaffolds have shown promising early-stage results in osteochondral repair, but long-term follow-up is necessary to demonstrate consistency in defect restoration. Overall, preclinical studies of multiphasic scaffolds show favourable results in simultaneously regenerating cartilage and bone in animal models of osteochondral defects, suggesting that biomaterials-based tissue engineering strategies may be a promising solution.

The brain has a high metabolic rate and consumes approximately 20% of the total energy in the body at any given time. Although it requires a large amount of energy to function, the brain cannot store significant amounts of energy making it exquisitely dependent on constant nutrient supply via blood flow. When blood flow to the brain is impaired, such as during stroke, there are rapid and severe consequences for the neurons that depend on this constant energy supply.
