The multiple roles of crop structural change in productivity,nutrition and environment in China:A decomposition analysis

China's crop structure has undergone significant changes in the last two decades since 2000,with an increase in the share of cereals,vegetables,and fruit,squeezing out other *** a result,land productivity,nutrient supply,and carbon emissions have *** to reallocate limited farmland among crops to achieve the multiple goals of agrifood systems becomes an important *** study explores the sources of land productivity and nutrition supply growth and carbon emissions reduction,and identifies the multiple roles of crop structural change from 2003 to 2020 based on a decomposition *** results reveal that the growth within crops is still the primary driver in land productivity and nutrition supply and the reduction in carbon ***,structural change also plays various roles at different *** 2003 to 2010,crop structural change increased the total calorie supply but lowered land productivity and contributed at least 70%of the total growth of carbon *** crop structure was relatively stable,and their effects were modest from 2010 to *** 2015 to 2020,the crop structural change began to play a greater role and generate synergistic effects in improving land productivity,micronutrient supply,and reducing carbon emissions,contributing to approximately a quarter of the growth of land productivity and 30%of total carbon emissions *** results suggest that strategies for crop structural change should comprehensively consider its multiple impacts,aiming to achieve co-benefits while minimizing trade-offs.

●AIM:To introduce the macular hole(MH)hydromassage technique as a potentially beneficial approach for the treatment of large or persistent MH.●METHODS:This retrospective observational case series comprised 16 consecutive patients(17 eyes)diagnosed with *** criteria involved a hole aperture diameter larger than 600μm or the presence of an unclosed MH larger than 600μm following the previous *** MH repair procedures were administered in all cases,involving the manipulation and aspiration of the hole margin through the application of water flow with a soft-tip flute needle.A comprehensive assessment was conducted for each case before and after surgery,and optical coherence tomography(OCT)images were captured at every follow-up point.●RESULTS:The mean preoperative aperture diameter was 747±156μm(range 611-1180μm),with a mean base diameter of 1390±435μm(range 578-2220μm).Following surgery,all cases achieved complete anatomical closure of MH,with 13 cases(76.5%)exhibiting type 1 closure and 4 cases(23.5%)demonstrating type 2 *** significant differences were observed in the preoperative OCT variables between the two closure *** with type 1 closure showed a significantly improved visual acuity(0.70±0.10,range 0.50-0.80)compared to those with type 2 closure(0.90±0.12,range 0.80-1.00,P=0.014).●CONCLUSION:The MH hydromassage technique demonstrates promising results,achieving acceptable closure rates in cases of large or persistent *** technique may serve as an effective adjunctive maneuver during challenging MH surgery.

Photoacoustic dual-comb spectroscopy(DCS),converting spectral information in the optical frequency domain to the audio frequency domain via multi-heterodyne beating,enables background-free spectral measurements with high resolution and broad ***,the detection sensitivity remains limited due to the low power of individual comb lines and the lack of broadband acoustic ***,we develop cavity-enhanced photoacoustic DCS,which overcomes these limitations by using a high-finesse optical cavity for the power amplification of dual-frequency combs and a broadband acoustic resonator with a flat-top frequency *** demonstrate high-resolution spectroscopic measurements of trace amounts of C2H2,NH3 and CO in the entire telecommunications *** method shows a minimum detection limit of 0.6 ppb C2H2 at the measurement time of 100 s,corresponding to the noise equivalent absorption coefficient of 7×10−10 cm−*** proposed cavityenhanced photoacoustic DCS may open new avenues for ultrasensitive,high-resolution,and multi-species gas detection with widespread applications.

Dynamic propagation velocity of a positive streamer in a 3 m air gap under lightning impulse voltage

Streamers represent an important stage in the initiation of gap discharge. In this work, we used an eight-frame intensified charge-coupled device camera to capture the streamer development process when a lightning impulse voltage of 95%–100% U50% was applied in a 3 m rod–plate gap and the streamer velocity was analyzed. Analysis of the observations shows that streamer velocity can be defined by three stages: rapid velocity decline(stage 1), rapid velocity rise(stage 2)and slow velocity decline(stage 3). The effects of electrode shape, applied voltage and gap breakdown or withstanding on streamer velocity were analyzed. The electrode with a larger radius of curvature will result in a higher initial velocity, and a higher voltage amplitude will cause the streamer to propagate faster at stage 3. Gap withstanding or breakdown has no obvious effect on streamer velocity. In addition, the experimental results are compared with previous results and the statistical characteristics of the primary streamer discharge are discussed.

In-vivo flow cytometry is a noninvasive real-time diagnostic technique that facilitates continuous monitoring of cells without perturbing their natural biological environment,which renders it a valuable tool for both scienti¯c research and clinical ***,the conventional approach for improving classi¯cation accuracy often involves labeling cells with fluorescence,which can lead to potential *** study proposes a label-free in-vivo flow cytometry technique,called dynamic YOLOv4(D-YOLOv4),which improves classi¯cation accuracy by integrating absorption intensity°uctuation modulation(AIFM)into YOLOv4 to demodulate the temporal features of moving red blood cells(RBCs)and *** zebra¯sh as an experimental model,the D-YOLOv4 method achieved average precisions(APs)of 0.90 for RBCs and 0.64 for thrombocytes(similar to platelets in mammals),resulting in an overall AP of *** scores notably surpass those attained by alternative network models,thereby demonstrating that the combination of physical models with neural networks provides an innovative approach toward developing label-free in-vivoflow cytometry,which holds promise for diverse in-vivo cell classi¯cation applications.

Comparison of macular changes according to the etiology of optic neuritis:a cross-sectional study

Understanding how maize(Zea mays)responds to cold stress is crucial for facilitating breeding programs of cold-tolerant *** extensive utilization of the genome-wide association study(GWAs)approach for exploring favorable natural alleles associated with maize cold tolerance,few studies have successfully identified candidate genes that contribute to maize cold *** this study,we used a diverse panel of inbred maize lines collected from different germplasm sources to perform a GWAS on var-iations in the relative injured area of maize true leaves during cold stress-a trait very closely correlated with maize cold *** identified HsF21,which encodes a B-class heat shock transcription factor(HSF)that positively regulates cold tolerance at both the seedling and germination *** varia-tions in the promoter of the cold-tolerant HSF21Hap1 allele led to increased HSF21 expression under cold stress by inhibiting binding of the basic leucine zipper bziP68 transcription factor,a negative regulator of cold *** integrating transcriptome deep sequencing,DNA affinity purification sequencing,and targeted lipidomic analysis,we revealed the function of HsF21 in regulating lipid metabolism homeo-stasis to modulate cold tolerance in *** addition,we found that HsF21 confers maize cold tolerance without incurring yield ***,this study establishes HsF21 as a key regulator that en-hances cold tolerance in maize,providing valuable genetic resources for breeding of cold-tolerant maize varieties.

Nanomaterials as lubricating oil additives have attracted significant attention because of their designable composition and structure,suitable mechanical property,and tunable surface ***,the poor compatibility between nanomaterials and base oil limits their further *** this work,we demonstrated oil-soluble poly(lauryl methacrylate)(PLMA)brushes-grafted metal-organic frameworks nanoparticles(nanoMOFs)as lubricating oil additives that can achieve efficient friction reduction and anti-wear *** were synthesized by free-radical polymerization,which was coordinatively grafted onto the surface of the UiO-67 ***,PLMA brushes were grown on the macroinitiator-modified UiO-67 by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization,which greatly improved the lipophilic property of the UiO-67 nanoparticles and significantly enhanced the colloidal stability and long-term dispersity in both non-polar solvent and base *** adding UiO-67@PLMA nanoparticles into the 500 SN base oil,coefficient of friction and wear volume reductions of 45.3%and 75.5%were achieved due to their excellent mechanical properties and oil ***,the load-carrying capacity of 500 SN was greatly increased from 100 to 500 N by the UiO-67@PLMA additives,and their excellent tribological performance was demonstrated even at a high friction frequency of 65 Hz and high temperature of 120℃.Our work highlights oil-soluble polymer brushes-functionalized nanoMOFs for highly efficient lubricating additives.
