Offshore high-grade limemud resources of west coast of India:Economic potential and industrial applications

Limestone is one of the essential raw materials in the cement,paint,steel,ceramic,glass,chemical,pharmaceutical,paper,and fertilizer *** India,only 8%of the limestone resources are placed under the reserve category,of which 97%is of cement ***,India depends on imports to bridge the demand‐supply gap of steel,blast furnace,and chemical‐grade *** of Geological Survey of India(GSI)to locate alternate sources for limestone led to the discovery of enormous quantities of carbonate minerals called limemud from the continental shelf margin of the west coast of *** carried out systematic studies to explore the nature of the disposition,quality,quantity,and suitability of the offshore limemud for various industrial applications.A preliminary estimate of resources using high‐resolution subbottom profiling and sediment core sample studies established the occurrence of more than 172 billion tonnes of high‐grade(The content of CaCO3 is greater than 80 wt%)limemud in 0.4–28.0m thick stratified sediment layers spread over an area of 18000 ***,physical,mineralogical,beneficiation,and agglomeration studies found the offshore limemud as a potential replacement for limestone in the cement,filler,blast furnace,steel melting shop,lime production,paint,and Grade‐I steel *** assessment of mining and transportation costs indicates that the offshore limemud(USD 5–6/ton)is more cost‐effective than that imported from other countries(USD16‐18/ton).With several advantageous factors like low impurity,mode of occurrence in overburden‐free stratified form,fine‐grained slurry nature,and shallow water depth,sustainable mining of offshore limemud could be a future reality with controllable technological,economic,and environmental challenges.

This study aims to reveal the occurrence and origin of typical groundwater with high arsenic and fluoride concentrations in the loess area of the Guanzhong Basin—a Neogene faulted *** findings are as follows:(1)Groundwater samples with high arsenic and fluoride concentrations collected from the loess area and the terraces of the Weihe River accounted for 26%and 30%,respectively,of the total samples,with primary hydrochemical type identified as HCO_(3)-*** karst and sand areas exhibit relatively high groundwater quality,serving as preferred sources for water *** is recommended that local governments fully harness groundwater in these areas;(2)groundwater with high arsenic and fluoride concentrations in the loess area and the alluvial plain of rivers in Dali County is primarily distributed within the Guanzhong Basin,which represents the drainage zone of groundwater;(3)arsenic and fluoride in groundwater originate principally from natural and anthropogenic sources;(4)the human health risk assessments reveal that long-term intake of groundwater with high arsenic and fluoride concentrations pose cancer or non-cancer risks,which are more serious to kids compared to *** study provides a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of groundwater with high arsenic and fluoride concentrations in loess areas.

Angular contact ball bearings have been widely used in machine tool spindles,and the bearing preload plays an important role in the performance of the *** order to solve the problems of the traditional optimal preload prediction method limited by actual conditions and uncertainties,a roller bearing preload test method based on the improved D-S evidence theorymulti-sensor fusion method was ***,a novel controllable preload system is proposed and ***,multiple sensors are employed to collect data on the bearing parameters during preload ***,a multisensor fusion algorithm is used to make predictions,and a neural network is used to optimize the fitting of the preload *** limitations of conventional preload testing methods are identified,and the integration of complementary information frommultiple sensors is used to achieve accurate predictions,offering valuable insights into the optimal preload *** results demonstrate that the multi-sensor fusion approach outperforms traditional methods in accurately measuring the optimal preload for rolling bearings.

Coal-related accidents are prevalent in China, often attributed to the intricate geology and challenging workingconditions of mines. This study seeks to determine the patterns of these accidents by examining the characteristicsof an accidents database, considering regional, temporal, mining method, and classiﬁcation distribution characteristics. The analysis centers on all signiﬁcant coal accidents (involving three or more fatalities) that occurredin China from 2017 to 2022, as documented in China’s (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) national coalmining safety accident report. Over the most recent six years, roof falls and gas explosions have emerged as themost common types of accident. Case studies were conducted to comprehensively investigate the histories andunderlying causes of these incidents. Countermeasures are proposed from three perspectives: prospective measures, optimization strategies, and enterprise management.

Numerical simulation of solidification of liquid aluminum alloy flowing on cooling slope

Preparation of semisolid slurry using a cooling slope is increasingly becoming popular,primarily because of the simplicity in design and ease control of the *** this process,liquid alloy is poured down an inclined surface which is cooled from *** cooling enables partial solidification and the incline provides the necessary shear for producing semisolid ***,the final microstructure of the ingot depends on several process parameters such as cooling rate,incline angle of the cooling slope,length of the slope and initial melt *** this work,a CFD model using volume of fluid(VOF) method for simulating flow along the cooling slope was *** for conservation of mass,momentum,energy and species were solved to predict hydrodynamic and thermal behavior,in addition to predicting solid fraction distribution and *** was modeled using an enthalpy approach and a volume averaged technique for the different *** mushy region was modeled as a multi-layered porous medium consisting of fixed columnar dendrites and mobile equiaxed/fragmented *** alloy chosen for the study was aluminum alloy A356,for which adequate experimental data were available in the *** effects of two key process parameters,namely the slope angle and the pouring temperature,on temperature distribution,velocity distribution and macrosegregation were also studied.

Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer Modeling of AC Arc in Ferrosilicon Submerged Arc Furnace

A two-dimensional mathematical model was developed to describe the heat transfer and fluid flow in an AC arc zone of a ferrosilicon submerged arc furnace. In this model, the time-dependent conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy in the specified domain of plasma zone were numerically solved by coupling with the Maxwell and Laplace equations for magnetic filed and electric potential, respectively. A control volume-based finite difference method was used to solve the governing equations in cylindrical coordinates. The reliability of the developed model was checked by experimental data from the previous available literature. The results of present model were in good agreement with the given data comparing with other models, because of solving the Maxwell and Laplace equations simul- taneously in order to calculate current density. In addition, parametric studies were carried out to evaluate the effects of electrical current and arc length on flow field and temperature distribution within the arc. According to the computed results, a lower power input led to a higher arc efficiency.

A study of the NW Kakamas Domain in South Africa/Namibia provides a new,unified lithostratigraphy and evolutionary history applicable to the whole Namaqua *** Mesoproterozoic history ranges from~1350 Ma to 960 Ma,but isotopic evidence suggests it was built upon pre-existing Paleoproterozoic continental crust that extended west from the Archaean *** eastern Namaqualand,early rift-related magmatism and sedimentation at~1350 Ma occurred in a confined ocean *** tectonic reversal and subduction at~1290–1240 Ma led to establishment of the Areachap,Konkiep and Kaaien *** the Kakamas Domain,widespread deposition of pelitic sediments occurred at~1220 Ma(Narries Group).These contain detrital zircons derived from proximal crust with ages between~2020 Ma and 1800 Ma(western Palaeoproterozoic domains)and 1350–1240 Ma(eastern early Namaqua domains),suggesting pre-sedimentation *** pelites underwent granulite grade metamorphism at~1210 Ma(peak conditions:4.5–6 kbar and 770–850°C),associated with voluminous,predominantly S-type granitoid orthogneisses between~1210 Ma and 1190 Ma(Eendoorn and Ham River Suites)and low-angle ductile(D_(2))deformation which continued until~1110 Ma,interspersed with periods of *** enduring P-T regime is inconsistent with the expected crustal over-thickening associated with the generally-accepted collision-accretion Namaqualand ***,we propose the Namaqua Sector is a‘hot orogen’developed in a wide continental back-arc with subduction west of the present-day *** observed high geotherm resulted from thinned back-arc lithosphere accompanied by an influx of mantle-derived *** D_(2)deformation resulted from"bottom-driven"tectonics and viscous drag within the crust by convective flow in the underlying asthenospheric *** extended tectonothermal regime ceased at~1110 Ma when SW-directed thrusting stacked the Namaqua Domains into their current positions,constrained in

Induction reheating of A356.2 aluminum alloy and thixocasting as automobile component

The development work for producing an automobile component by thixocasting using A356.2 alloy was *** the first step,the alloy was electromagnetically stirred and solidified to produce a billet with non-dendritic *** microstructure depended on several process parameters such as stirring intensity,stirring frequency,cooling rate,and melt initial *** a series of computational studies and controlled experiments,a set of process parameters were identified to produce the best *** of a billet with non-dendritic microstructure to a semisolid temperature was the next step for thixo-casting of the *** reheating process was characterized for various reheating cycles using a vertical-type reheating *** induction heating cycle was optimized to obtain a near-uniform temperature distribution in radial as well as axial direction of the billet,and the heating was continued until the liquid fraction reached about 50%.These parameters were determined with the help of a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model of die filling and solidification of the semisolid *** heated billets were subsequently thixo-cast into automobile components using a real-time controlled die casting *** results show that the castings are near net shape,free from porosity,good surface finish and have superior mechanical properties compared to those produced by conventional die casting processes using the same alloy.

Petrogenesis of the Neoarchean zincian chromite within ultramafic xenoliths,Bastar Craton,India

The present study reports and discusses the genesis of zincian chromite in the ultramafic xenoliths from the Dongripali area,Bastar craton,Central *** zincian chromite is in the ultramafic xenoliths of Bengpal supracrustal rock hosted by Neoarchaean Bundeli *** zincian chromite shows a range of Cr_(2)O_(3)(39.69 to 51.66 wt%),Al_(2)O_(3)(05.30 wt%to 08.71 wt%),FeO(21.74 wt%to 27.51 wt%),Fe_(2)O_(3)(10.19 wt%to 19.36wt%)with higher ZnO content ranging from 1.73 wt%to 4.08 wt%.Accordingly,their Cr#[Cr/(Cr+Al)]varies in a narrow range from 0.83 to *** calculated melt composition supports metamorphic or post-magmatic nature rather than common occurrences such as inclusion in diamonds,meteorites,and association with any sulfide-rich mineralised *** reveals that the post-magmatic processes play a vital role in transforming chromite to zincian *** empirical thermometric calculation from chromite,amphibole,and pyroxene support their metamorphic origin and formed during low-P and high-T amphibolite grade facies of metamorphism(~700℃).The Neoarchaean granitic magmatism has a significant role in generating and transferring the heat during contact metamorphism with hydration of ultramafic xenoliths and further alteration,i.e.,*** olivine is a major repository for Mn,Zn,and Co in peridotite/ultramafic;these elements get mobilised during the metamorphism and *** is a possible reason for the mobilisation of zinc and incorporation in the chromite within altered *** a result,chromiterich ultramafic xenolith subjected to metamorphic process gets enrichment of Zn and Fe due to elemental *** converts common chromite into zincian chromite,as reported in altered ultramafics elsewhere.

Simulation of clinker grinding circuits of cement plant based on process models calibrated using GA search method

Particle size distributions of obtained samples from several sampling campaigns were determined and raw data were mass balanced before being used in simulation *** determination of breakage function,selection function,Bond work index,residence time distribution parameters,and Whiten's model parameters for air separators and diaphragms between the two compartments of tube ball mills,performance of the circuits was simulated for given throughputs and feed particle size ***'s model parameters were determined by GA(genetic algorithm) toolbox of MATLAB *** on implemented models for modeling and simulation,optimization of circuits was carried *** increased nearly 10.5% and 15.8% in fresh feed capacity input to each tube ball *** addition,circulating load ratios of circuits are modified to 118% and 127% from low level of 57% and 22%,respectively,and also cut points of air separators are adjusted at 30 and 40 μm from high range of 53 and 97 μm,*** applications helped in well-operation and energy consumption reduction of equipments.
