Background:In recent years,there has been increased research interest in both smartphone addiction and social media addiction as well as the development of psychometric instruments to assess these constructs.However,there is a lack of psychometric evaluation for instruments assessing smartphone addiction and social media addiction in Thailand.The present study evaluated the psychometric properties and gender measurement invariance of the Thai version of the Smartphone Application-Based Addiction Scale(SABAS)and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale(BSMAS).Method:A total of 801 Thai university students participated in an online survey from January 2022 to July 2022 which included demographic information,SABAS,BSMAS,and the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form(IGDS9-SF).Results:Confirmatory Factor Analyses(CFAs)found that both the SABAS and BSMAS had a one-factor structure.Findings demonstrated adequate psychometric properties of both instruments and also supported measurement invariance across genders.Moreover,scores on the SABAS and BSMAS were correlated with scores on the IGDS9-SF.Conclusion:The results indicated that the SABAS and BSMAS are useful psychometric instruments for assessing the risk of smartphone addiction and social media addiction among Thai young adults.

Increased levels of surfactant protein D (SP-D) and lipid-laden foamy macrophages (FMs) are frequently found under oxidative stress conditions and/or in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who are also chronically exposed to cigarette smoke (CS). However, the roles and molecular mechanisms of SP-D and FMs in COPD have not yet been determined. In this study, increased levels of SP-D were found in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and sera of ozone- and CS-exposed mice. Furthermore, SP-D-knockout mice showed increased lipid-laden FMs and airway inflammation caused by ozone and CS exposure, similar to that exhibited by our study cohort of chronic smokers and COPD patients. We also showed that an exogenous recombinant fragment of human SP-D (rfhSP-D) prevented the formation of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL)-induced FMs in vitro and reversed the airway inflammation and emphysematous changes caused by oxidative stress and CS exposure in vivo. SP-D upregulated bone marrow-derived macrophage (BMDM) expression of genes involved in countering the oxidative stress and lipid metabolism perturbations induced by CS and oxLDL. Our study demonstrates the crucial roles of SP-D in the lipid homeostasis of dysfunctional alveolar macrophages caused by ozone and CS exposure in experimental mouse emphysema, which may provide a novel opportunity for the clinical application of SP-D in patients with COPD.

Master equation approach to transient quantum transport in nanostructures

In this review article, we present a non-equilibrium quantum transport theory for transient electron dynamics in nanodevices based on exact Master equation derived with the path integral method in the fermion coherent-state representation. Applying the exact Master equation to nanodevices, we also establish the connection of the reduced density matrix and the transient quantum transport current with the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green functions. The theory enables us to study transient quantum transport in nanostructures with back-reaction effects from the contacts, with non-Markovian dissipa- tion and decoherence being fully taken into account. In applications, we utilize the theory to specific quantum transport systems, a variety of quantum decoherence and quantum transport phenomena involving the non-Markovian memory effect are investigated in both transient and stationary scenarios at arbitrary initial temperatures of the contacts.

Estimating sediment deposition volume in a reservoir using the physiographic soil erosion-deposition model

A traditional way to estimate the amount of sediment deposition in a reservoir is simply based on the variation in the elevation measurements made at different times.In the present study,a physiographic soil erosion-deposition(PSED) model is applied to.Tseng-Wen reservoir watershed to compute the discharge and sediment concentration into the reservoir,and the deposition volume.The PSED model is verified using three storm events and then compared to the historic data recorded at the hydrological stations in the reservoir watershed,which shows close agreement between the simulated and recorded values of the flow discharge into the reservoir and the corresponding sediment yield. The numerical simulation was also conducted for all rainfall events from 1996 to 2001 to estimate the annual sediment deposition volume in the reservoir.Similarly,the simulated result was compared to that obtained from the cross-section elevation measurement.It is found that some measured data points had large uncertainty or were questionable.On the contrary,the model results and the measured data that renders the model credible.Therefore,regardless of the estimation for the flow discharge into the reservoir induced by a single rainfall event,the sediment yield,or the sediment deposition,the PSED model has successfully demonstrated its ability.

Quantum Oblivious Transfer with Reusable Bell State

In cryptography,oblivious transfer(OT)is an important multiparty cryptographic primitive and protocol,that is suitable for many upperlayer applications,such as secure computation,remote coin-flipping,electrical contract signing and exchanging secrets simultaneously.However,some nogo theorems have been established,indicating that one-out-of-two quantum oblivious transfer(QOT)protocols with unconditional security are impossible.Fortunately,some one-out-of-two QOT protocols using the concept of Crepeau’s reduction have been demonstrated not to conform to Lo’s no-go theorem,but these protocols require more quantum resources to generate classical keys using all-or-nothing QOT to construct one-out-of-two QOT.This paper proposes a novel and efficient one-out-of-two QOT which uses quantum resources directly instead of wasting unnecessary resources to generate classical keys.The proposed protocol is not covered by Lo’s no-go theorem,and it is able to check the sender’s loyalty and avoid the attack from the receiver.Moreover,the entangled state of the proposed protocol is reusable,so it can provide more services for the participants when necessary.Compared with otherQOT protocols,the proposed protocol is more secure,efficient,and flexible,which not only can prevent external and internal attacks,but also reduce the required resources and resource distribution time.

Virus-induced asthma is prevalent among children,but its underlying mechanisms are unclear.Accumulated evidence indicates that early-life respiratory virus infection increases susceptibility to allergic asthma.Nonetheless,the relationship between systemic virus infections,such as enterovirus infection,and the ensuing effects on allergic asthma development is unknown.Early-life enterovirus infection was correlated with higher risks of allergic diseases in children.Adult mice exhibited exacerbated mite allergen-induced airway inflammation following recovery from EV-A71 infection in the neonatal period.Bone marrow-derived macrophages(BMDMs)from recovered EV-A71-infected mice showed sustained innate immune memory(trained immunity)that could drive naïve T helper cells toward Th2 and Th17 cell differentiation when in contact with mites.Adoptive transfer of EV-A71-trained BMDMs induced augmented allergic inflammation in naïve recipient mice,which was inhibited by 2-deoxy-D-glucose(2-DG)pretreatment,suggesting that trained macrophages following enterovirus infection are crucial in the progression of allergic asthma later in life.

Identification of waterbody status in Indonesia by using predictive index assessment tool

The relationship between land use and water quality status is complex and likely to be site-specific,and more work is needed for it to be clearly quantified.Theref national cheng kung university,No 1 university Road,Tainan 701ore,the main objective of this paper was thus to identify and investigate status of waterbodies(lakes and rivers)by using appropriate predictive index assessment tool coupled with the offered Adaptive Co-Management(ACM)methodology towards sustainability of water quality and ecology in Indonesia.We then present a comprehensive assessment as baseline information to describe the existing condition of waterbody status in study area.The results indicated that the basic requirements of predictive index assessment tool,expressed as indicator:criteria and attributes,are use-specific or targeted to the protection of the watershed and waterbodies uses among a number of land use policies.In some situations,even stricter requirements and policies are necessary to achieve sustainability of water quality and ecology in Indonesia.
