γ-Aminobutyric acid alleviates litchi thaumatin-like protein-induced inflammation and reduces gut microbial translocation

Previous research reported litchi thaumatin-like protein(LcTLP)could lead to inflammation,which is a factor causing the adverse reactions after excessive intake of *** a main amino acid in litchi pulp,γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA)was found with anti-inflammatory ***,this study aimed to investigate the effects of GABA on LcTLP-induced inflammation through RAW264.7 macrophages and C57BL mice *** vitro study showed GABA could effectively regulate the level of inflammatory cytokines(interleukin(IL)-1β,IL-6,IL-10,and prostaglandin E2)and Ca2+in cells,and inhibit the phosphorylation of p65,IκB,p38,c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK)and extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK).These results indicate GABA alleviated inflammation through nuclear factor-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway signaling *** vivo experiment was performed to verify the anti-inflammatory effect of GABA,and the results demonstrated that GABA reduced the inflammation and oxidative stress in the liver of LcTLP-treated mice,as it down-regulated the pro-inflammatory cytokines,malondialdehyde,aspartate transferase,and alanine *** relative expression of phosphorylated p38,JNK and ERK in mice liver with GABA treatment were reduced to 65%,39%and 80%of the control group,***,GABA treatment enriched probiotic bacteria and decreased pathogenic bacteria in mice gut,which reveals GABA could effectively reduce the translocation of gut microbiota.

The electrocaloric effect(ECE),known for its environmentally friendly characteristics,holds significant promise for advancing next-generation solid-state refrigeration *** a large ECE along with a wide working temperature range near room temperature remains a key developmental *** this study,we successfully obtained a substantial ECE of 1.78 K and an extensive working temperature range of 103 K(AT>1.52 K)near room temperature in CaZrO_(3)-modified BaTiO_(3) lead-free ferroelectric ***,this achievement was verified using direct *** piezoresponse force microscopy(PFM)results suggest that the broad temperature range is attributed to the formation of ferroelectric microdomains and polar nanoregions(PNRs).Furthermore,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)spectroscopy reveal a decrease in the oxygen vacancy concentration and an increase in the bandgap for higher CaZrO_(3) doping *** changes synergistically enhance the maximum applied electric field,helping to achieve a high-performance EcE near room *** research presents a straightforward and effective approach for achieving high-performance ECEs in BaTiOg lead-free ceramics,offering promising prospects for application in next-generation solid-state refrigeration technologies.

Improvement in acupoint selection for acupuncture of nerves surrounding the injury site: electro-acupuncture with Governor vessel with local meridian acupoints

Peripheral nerve injury not only affects the site of the injury, but can also induce neuronal apop- tosis at the spinal cord. However, many acupuncture clinicians still focus only on the injury site, selecting acupoints entirely along the injured nerve trunk and neglecting other regions; this may delay onset of treatment efficacy and rehabilitation. Therefore, in the present study, we compared the clinical efficacy of acupuncture at Governor vessel and local meridian acupoints combined （GV/LM group） with acupuncture at local meridian acupoints alone （LM group） in the treatment of patients with peripheral nerve injury. In the GV/LM group （n = 15）, in addition to meridian acupoints at the injury site, the following acupoints on the Governor vessel were stimulated： Baihui （GV20）, Fengfu （GV16）, Dazhui （GV14）, and Shenzhu （GV12）, selected to treat nerve injury of the upper limb, and Jizhong （GV6）, Mingmen （GV4）, Yaoyangguan （GV3）, and Yaoshu （GV2） to treat nerve injury of the lower limb. In the LM group （n = 15）, only me- ridian acupoints along the injured nerve were selected. Both groups had electroacupuncture treatment for 30 minutes, once a day, 5 times per week, for 6 weeks. Two cases dropped out of the LM group. A good or excellent clinical response was obtained in 80% of the patients in the GV/ LM group and 38.5% of the LM group. In a second study, an additional 20 patients underwent acupuncture with the same prescription as the GV/LM group. Electomyographic nerve conduc- tion tests were performed before and after acupuncture to explore the mechanism of action of the treatment. An effective response was observed in 80.0% of the patients, with greater motor nerve conduction velocity and amplitude after treatment, indicating that electroacupuncture on specific Governor vessel acupoints promotes functional motor nerve repair after peripheral nerve injury. Clinical patterns and characteristics of uveitis in a secondary hospital in southern China

AIM: To investigate the characteristics of uveitis in a secondary hospital in southern ***: We reviewed all records of patients with uveitis at Hengli Hospital from January 2008 to December2011. Demographic data, past history, ophthalmic examinations and other laboratory tests were ***: One hundred and ninety-nine uveitis patients were enrolled in this study, including 134(67.3%) males and 65 females(32.7%) with an average age of 41.0 ±15.1y. The anatomical distribution included103(51.8%) cases of anterior uveitis, followed by panuveitis(65, 32.7%), posterior uveitis(29, 14.6%) and intermediate uveitis(2, 1.0%). Of the 98(49.2%) non-idiopathic cases, there were 10.1% Behcet’s disease,9.5% Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada(VKH) syndrome, 7.5%infectious uveitis, 7.5% traumatic uveitis and 3.5%postoperative ***: Idiopathic anterior and posterior uveitis,Behcet’s disease, VKH syndrome, infectious uveitis and traumatic uveitis are the most common uveitis entities in a secondary hospital in southern China. Additional measures should be taken to prevent infectious and traumatic uveitis.

Recycling millions of metric tons of spent LiFePO_(4) batteries would benefit human health while reducing resource depletion and environmental ***,recovering individual elements from the spent batteries without generating waste is ***,we present a distinctive approach for recycling spent LiFePO_(4) batteries at room temperature,where water is the only leaching agent ***_(4) and lithium intercalated graphite act as a precursor material for selectively extracting lithium,iron,and phosphorus through charging the LiFePO_(4) batteries to the delithiated *** solution extracted Fe from FePO_(4) within 30 min and regenerated without consumption,similar to a *** the optimal leaching conditions(1 mol·L^(-1) NaOH,0.5 h,NaOH/Fe molar ratio of 4.5),Fe and P leaching efficiencies achieved 89.1%and 99.2%,*** methodology reflected in this research reduced the material cost per kg cathode material to a fraction of previously published reports,only occupies 6.13%of previous *** addition,the method improved the battery recycling revenue calculated by the EverBatt model by 2.31 times and 1.94 times over pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical *** proposed method allows for the convenient recovery of the elemental components of spent LiFePO_(4) batteries.

Previous reports have suggested that Ang-(1-7)may have a protective effect in endothelial cells against high glucose(HG)-induced cell injury thanks to a modulatory mechanism in the NF-κB signaling *** this study,we have examined whether NF-κB-IL-1βand Heme oxygenase-1(HO-1)pathways contribute to the protection of Ang-(1-7)against hyperglycemia-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs).Our results indicate that time-varying exposures of HUVECs,from 1 h to 24 h,to high glucose concentrations result in an increased expression of phosphorylated(p)-p65 and HO-1 in a time-dependent *** an inhibitor of NF-κB,pyrrolidinedithiocarbamic acid(PDTC)suppressed IL-1βproduction induced by *** note,HUVECs previously treated with Ang-(1-7)(2μM)for 30 min before being exposed to HG concentrations significantly ameliorated the HG-increased in p-p65 and IL-1βexpression;whereas obviously up-regulated the level of HO-1,along with inhibition of oxidative stress,inflammation,and the HG-induced ***,when HUVECs were previously treated either with PDTC or IL-1Ra for 30 min before being exposed to HG,it significantly prevented damages caused by high glucose concentrations mentioned above,while the treatment of HO-1 inhibitor Sn-protoporphyrin(SnPP)before exposure to both HG and Ang-(1-7)significantly blocked the protective effect exerted by Ang-(1-7)on endothelial cells against injuries induced by HG mentioned *** conclude,the data of this study showed that activation and inhibition of the NF-κB-IL-1βpathway and HO-1 pathway may constitute an important defense mechanism against endothelial cell damage caused by HG *** additionally gave new evidence showing that exogenous Ang-(1-7)exerts a protective effect on HUVECs against the HG-induced cell injury via the inhibition and the activation of the NF-κB-IL-1βpathway and the HO-1 pathway,respectively.

Neuroprotective effects of salvianolic acid B on secondary spinal cord damage

Salvianolic acid B （Sal B）, an effective ingredient of Danshen （salvia miltiorrhiza root）, has been shown to exhibit anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. The present study investigated whether Sal B has a neuroprotective effect on secondary spinal cord injury when administrated alone. In addition, the effects of Sal B on attenuating expression of tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α） following acute spinal cord injury were analyzed, as well as the effects of combined treatment of Sal B and etanercept. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that Sal B significantly reduced matrix metalloproteinase-1 and c-Fos expression at 24 hours after spinal cord injury, and decreased tissue edema was detected using the dry-wet weight method at 3 days after injury. In addition, Sal B significantly promoted recovery of motor function in rats. These effects were most significant at a dose of 20 mg/kg Sal B. At 24 hours after spinal cord injury, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blot assay results showed that Sal B, etanercept, or the combination significantly suppressed increased TNF-α mRNA and protein expression, although the combination resulted in more significant outcomes. These results suggested that Sal B exerted neuroprotective effects against secondary spinal cord injury by reducing expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1, c-Fos, and TNF-α. Moreover, Sal B combined with etanercept resulted in more significant anti-inflammatory effects.

In this article,a new trajectory programming system that allows non-expert users to intuitively and efficiently program trajectories for robots is *** system tracks a pen-shaped marker and obtains its position and orientation by processing the point cloud data of the workspace.A graphical user interface,which enables users to save and execute the acquired trajectory immediately after performing trajectory demonstration,is designed and developed for the *** performance of the developed system is experimentally evaluated by using it to program trajectories for a UR5 *** results indicate that compared with traditional kinesthetic programming,the developed system has the potential of significantly reducing the ergonomic stress and workload of *** system is developed based on the robot operating system,which facilitates its integration with different robot control systems.
