We propose a methodology for testing two-sample means in high-dimensional functional data that requires no decaying pattern on eigenvalues of the functional *** the best of our knowledge,we are the first to consider and address such a *** be specific,we devise a confidence region for the mean curve difference between two samples,which directly establishes a rigorous inferential procedure based on the multiplier *** addition,the proposed test permits the functional observations in each sample to have mutually different distributions and arbitrary correlation structures,which is regarded as the desired property of distribution/correlation-free,leading to a more challenging scenario for theoretical *** desired properties include the allowance for highly unequal sample sizes,exponentially growing data dimension in sample sizes and consistent power behavior under fairly general *** proposed test is shown uniformly convergent to the prescribed significance,and its finite sample performance is evaluated via the simulation study and an application to electroencephalography data.

Objective To study the effects of diallyl sulfide (DAS), an organosulfur compoundpresent in garlic (Allium sativum), on the life span of ehrlich ascites (EA) tumor bearingSwiss albino mice, cytotoxicity and angiogenesis. Methods EA tumor cells weremaintained by serial transplantation in peritoneal cavity of male Swiss albino mice. EAtumor cells were inoculated at concentrations of 1× 106 EA cells, 2.5× 106 EA cells and5× 106 EA cells. DAS was given in 0.2 ml normal saline i. p., daily for seven days followedone hour later by inoculation with EA cells in respective groups. Results The resultsrevealed that administration of DAS increased the life span of EA tumor bearing animals bymore than 25 percent. A significant dose dependant cytotoxic response of DAS was alsoobserved on EA tumor cells. DAS was also found to inhibit the angiogenesis in EA tumorbearing mice in a dose dependent manner. Conclusion It is suggested that DAS may exertits anticarcinogenic effects by more than one mechanism and is a useful chemopreventiveand chemotherapeutic agent.

An Efficient Multiple Imputation Approach for Estimating Equations with Response Missing at Random and High-Dimensional Covariates

Empirical-likelihood-based inference for parameters defined by the general estimating equations of Qin and Lawless(1994) remains an active research topic. When the response is missing at random(MAR) and the dimension of covariate is not low, the authors propose a two-stage estimation procedure by using the dimension-reduced kernel estimators in conjunction with an unbiased estimating function based on augmented inverse probability weighting and multiple imputation(AIPW-MI) methods. The authors show that the resulting estimator achieves consistency and asymptotic normality. In addition, the corresponding empirical likelihood ratio statistics asymptotically follow central chi-square distributions when evaluated at the true parameter. The finite-sample performance of the proposed estimator is studied through simulation, and an application to HIV-CD4 data set is also presented.

Liriomyza trifolii is an important pest of vegetables and ornamental crops around the world. This pest is attacked by many parasitoid species. The principal management tactic used against L. trifolii is insecticide application. Insecticides vary in their effects on parasitoid species and insecticides that have less harmful effects should be preferred for the control of this pest. In this study, novaluron, abamectin, λ-cyhalothrin and spinetoram were investigated for their lethal effects on adults of Neochrysocharisformosa and Ganaspidium nigrimanus, two important parasitoids ofL. trifolii. Three different bioassays were used on adult parasitoids： direct insecticide application, insecticide intake and insecticide residue. Adult parasitoid response to novaluron exhibited the least lethal effects among the bioassays and insecticides tested. Abamectin had significant mortality to both parasitoid species in the direct application and insecticide intake bioassays and mortality were high for G. nigrimanus in the residue bioassay. Spinetoram was the most harmful insecticide to the adult parasitoids in all three bioassays. λ-cyhalothrin effects varied between the two parasitoids. In the direct application, it was harmful to G. nigrimanus and had no effect on N. formosa. In the insecticide intake bioassay λ-cyhalothrin had no effect in survival of either species, and in the residue bioassay it reduced parasitoid survival of both species. Potential tolerance of N. formosa to λ-cyhalothrin is discussed.

Although numerous studies have investigated premature deaths attributable to temperature,effects of temperature on years of life lost(YLL)remain *** estimated the relationship between temperatures and YLL,and quantified the YLL per death caused by temperature in *** collected daily meteorological and mortality data,and calculated the daily YLL values for 364 locations(2013–2017 in Yunnan,Guangdong,Hunan,Zhejiang,and Jilin provinces,and 2006–2011 in other locations)in China.A time-series design with a distributed lag nonlinear model was first employed to estimate the location-specific associations between temperature and YLL rates(YLL/100,000 population),and a multivariate meta-analysis model was used to pool location-specific ***,YLL per death caused by temperatures was *** temperature and YLL rates consistently showed U-shaped associations.A mean of 1.02(95%confidence interval:0.67,1.37)YLL per death was attributable to *** temperature caused 0.98 YLL per death with most from moderate cold(0.84).The mean YLL per death was higher in those with cardiovascular diseases(1.14),males(1.15),younger age categories(1.31 in people aged 65–74 years),and in central China(1.34)than in those with respiratory diseases(0.47),females(0.87),older people(0.85 in people R75 years old),and northern China(0.64)or southern China(1.19).The mortality burden was modified by annual temperature and temperature variability,relative humidity,latitude,longitude,altitude,education attainment,and central heating *** caused substantial YLL per death in China,which was modified by demographic and regional characteristics.
