Influence of curing conditions on the shrinkage behavior of three-dimensional printed concrete formwork

Genome-resolved metagenomics of Venice Lagoon surface sediment bacteria reveals high biosynthetic potential and metabolic plasticity as successful strategies in an impacted environment

A high aspect ratio surface micromachined accelerometer based on a SiC-CNT composite material

Disrupted NF-κB activation after partial hepatectomy does not impair hepatocyte proliferation in rats

AIM： To analyze the effects of NF-kB inhibition by antioxidant pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate （PDTC） or TNF inhibitor pentoxifylline （PTX） on liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy （PH）. METHODS： Saline, PDTC or PTX were injected 1 h before PH and rats were killed at 0.5 and 24 h after PH. Several control groups were used for comparison （injection control groups）. RESULTS： Compared to saline injected controls, NF-kB activation was absent 0.5 h after PH in rats treated with PDTC or PTX. At 24 h after PH, DNA synthesis and PCNA expression were identical in treated and control rats and thus occurred irrespectively of the status of NF-kB activation at 0.5 h. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 （Stat3） acUvatJon was observed already 0.5 h after PH in saline, PDTC or PTX group and was similar to Stat3 activation in response to injection without PH. CONCLUSION： These data strongly suggest that （1） NF-kB p65/p50 DNA binding produced in response to PH is not a signal necessary to initiate the liver regeneration, （2） star3 activation is a stress response unrelated to the activation of NF-kB. In conclusion, NF-kB activation is not critically required for the process of liver regeneration after PH.

Climate change induced heat stress impact on workplace productivity in a net zero-carbon timber building towards the end of the century

Changing climate intensifies heat stress,resulting in a greater risk of workplace productivity decline in timber office buildings with low internal thermal *** impact of climate change induced heat exposure on indoor workplace productivity in timber office buildings has not been extensively ***,further investigation to reduce the work capacity decline towards the end of the century is ***,heat exposure in a net zero-carbon timber building near Brussels,belgium,was evaluated using a reproducible comparative approach with different internal thermal mass *** analysis indicated that strategies with increased thermal mass were more effective in limiting the effects of heat exposure on workplace *** medium and high thermal mass strategies reduced workplace productivity loss to 0.1%in the current,0.3%and 0.2%in the midfuture,and 4.9%and 3.9%for future *** comparison,baseline with low thermal mass yielded a decline of 2.3%,3.3%,and 8.2%.The variation in maximum and minimum wet-bulb globe temperatures were also lower for medium and high thermal mass strategies than for low thermal mass *** study findings lead to the formulation of design guidelines,identification of research gaps,and recommendations for future work.

Fractionation and characterization of polysaccharides from cyanobacterium Spirulina (Arthrospira) maxima in nitrogen-limited batch culture

By a sequentially selective extraction procedure, polysaccharides (PS) from cyanobacterium Spirulina (Arthrospira) maxima that can be bio functionally healthy components were fractionated in four parts including the culture medium (PSCM), the external layers of the cell (PSEL), the cell wall (PSCW) and storage granules (PSSG). The four fractionated parts of polysaccharides were characterized by gas liquid chromatography (GLC) equipped with FID and fused silica capillary column (15 m×0.53 mm i. d.). The contents of PSCM, PSEL, PSCW and PSSG were about 2.0%, 2.6%, 10.0% and 52.0% to cell dry matter, respectively. Glucose was almost the only monosaccharide in PSSG and PSCW and most predominant in PSEL, while in PSCM, xylose, rhamnose and glucose were the main ones. Two uronic acids represented by glucuronic acid and galacturoic acid, six neutral monosaccharides including fucose, rhamnose, xylose, mannose, galactose and glucose, and two possible unidentified sugars were found in PSEL and PSCM. These data are valuable for the selective productions of high added value sugars from Spirulina .
