Effects of adenosine agonist R-phenylisopropyl-adenosine on halothane anesthesia and antinociception in rats

Aim:To investigate the antinociceptive effect of adenosine agonist R-phenylisopropyl-adenosine（R-PIA）given to conscious rats by intracerebro-ventricular（ICV）and intrathecal（IT）,and identify the effect of R-PIA on minimumalveolar concentration（MAC）of halothane with pretreatment of A1receptor an-tagonist 8-cyclopentyl-1,3-dipropylxanthine（DPCPX）or K+channel blocker4-aminopyridine（4-AP）.Methods:Sprague-Dawley rats were implanted with 24-gauge stainless steel guide cannula using stereotaxic apparatus and ICV method,and an IT catheter（PE-10,8.5cm）was inserted into the lumbar subarachnoidspace,while the rats were under pentobarbital *** one week ofrecovery from surgery,rats were randomly assigned to one of the followingprotocols:MAC of halothane,or tail-flick *** measurements were per-formed after R-PIA（0.8-2.0μg）microinjection into ICV and IT with or withoutpretreatment of DPCPX or ***:Microinjection of adenosine agonist R-PIA in doses of 0.8-2.0μg into ICV and IT produced a significant dose-and time-dependent antinociceptive action as reflected by increasing latency times andICV administration of adenosine agonist R-PIA（0.8μg）reducing halothane anes-thetic requirements（by 29%）.The antinociception and reducing halothane re-quirements effected by adenosine agonist R-PIA was abolished by DPCPX ***:ICV and IT administration of adenosine agonist R-PIA pro-duced an antinociceptive effect in a dose-dependent manner and decreased hal-othane MAC with painful stimulation through activation of A1receptor subtype,and the underlying mechanism involves K+channel activation.

Fatigue Behavior of Cemented Carbide Die in Cold Forging of Steel

The fatigue behavior of cemented carbide die under service load in the multistage cold forging of steel was investigated. It was found that the fatigue cracks do not initiate at the stress concentration position and the crack initiation position can be classified to three types. The crack initiation position can be predicted by FEM only when the plastic deformation of the die is considered.

Possible Role of the Submandibular Gland in the Development of Obesity in Mice

The possible role of submandiblular glands (SMG) in the development of obesity was studied in two types of genetically obese mice, ob/ob and yellow Ay: Obesity is caused by hyperplasia followed by hypertrophy in ob/ob mice and mainly by hypertrophy in Ay *** histological features of SMGs exhibited clear sexual dimorphism in both mice similarto lean controls. The SMGs of ob/ob mice was smaller in size and had smaller granular convoluted tubular portions than lean controls, while the SMGs of Ay mice did not differ from lean controls. Sialoadenectomy before and after development of obesity gCnerally reduced the gain of body weights in both sexes of Ay mice but not in ob/ob mice. The content of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in the SMGs was higher in Ay mice and lower in ob/ob mice than their controls. The possible role of EGF in the SMGs in the development of obesity is discussed

Since two asymmetric centres are usually present in the bisbenzylisoquinolines,the circular dichroism is known to be an important method to elucidate their *** studied the relationships of the CD spectra with the stereochemistry of synthetic RR-(1),SS-(2),RS-daurisoline(3) and SR-daurisoline(4).By comparision of the CD spectrum of natural daurisoline(1)from Menis- permum dauricum(Menispermaceae)with those of synthetic enantiomers,the absolute configuration was established as RR-daurisoline(1).

Acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) catalyzes the formation of cholesteryl estersfrom cholesterol and long-chain fatty-acyl-coenzyme *** the single-cell level,ACAT serves as a regulatorof intracellular cholesterol *** addition,ACAT supplies cholesteryl esters for lipoproteinassembly in the liver and small *** pathological conditions,the accumulation of cholesterylesters produced by ACAT in macrophages contributes to foam cell formation,a hallmark of the earlystage of *** reviews addressing various aspects of ACAT and ACAT inhibitors areavailable [1-8].This review briefly outlines the current knowledge on the biochemical properties of humanACATs,and then focuses on discussing the merit of ACAT as a drug target for pharmaceutical interventionsagainst atherosclerosis.

Fluid Flow Behavior of Liquid in Cylindrical Vessels Stirred by One or Two Air Jets

Based on the two-phase model (Eulerian-Eulerian model), the three dimensional fluid flow in water and that liquid steel systems stirred by one or two multiple gas jets are simulated. In the Eulerian-Eulerian two-phase model, the gas and the liquid phase are considered to be two different continuous fluids interacting with each other through the finite inter-phase areas. The exchange between the phases is represented by source terms in conversation equations. Turbulence is assumed to be a property of the liquid phase. A new turbulence modification - model is introduced to consider the bubbles movement contribution to and . The dispersion of phases due to turbulence is represented by introducing a diffusion term in mass conservation equation. The mathematical simulation agrees well with the experiment results. The study results indicate that the distance of two nozzles has big effect on fluid flow behavior in the vessel. Using two gas injection nozzles at the half radii of one diameter of the bottom generates a much better mixing than with one nozzle under the condition of the same total gas flow rate.

Effect of diethylstilbestrol on polyamine metabolism in hamster epididymis

Aim: To investigate the effect of diethylstilbestrol (DES), one of the most potent endocrine disruptors, on the metabolism of polyamines in hamster epididymis. Methods: Male golden hamsters of 7-week-old were kept under a light and dark cycle of 14 h and 10 h for 1 week to stimulate maximally the gonadal function. DES was injected subcutaneously at doses of 0.01 mg·kg-1·day-1, 0.1 mg·kg-1·day-1 and 1 mg·kg-1·day-1 for one week. Results: DES treatment caused a significant decrease in the weight of epididymis. The activity of epididymal ornithine decar boxylase (ODC) increased 1 day after DES treatment, kept at a high level for 4 days and then decreased to nearly normal level at day 7. The activity of spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase (SSAT) also increased transiently after DES treatment. The contents of putrescine, spermidine, spermine and N1-acetylspermidine were increased 1 day -4 days after DES treatment and restored to normal at day 7. All these changes showed a marked difference between the caput and the cauda. Conclusion: The polyamine biosynthesis in the hamster epididymis can be affected by DES, a xenoestrogen. DES may probably affect polyamine metabolism in the epididymis by regulating the rate-limiting enzymes involved in the polyamine biosynthesis.

This paper describes some sheet forging processes developed by the authors recently, including burring processes, gear tooth filling processes and boss forming process.

Animal models for the study of erectile function monitoring the changes in intracavernous pressure (ICP) during penile erection was reviewed. The development of new models using small commercially-available experimental animals, rats and mice, in the last decade facilitated in vivo investigation of erectile physiology. The techniqueenabled to evaluate even subtle erectile responses by analyzing ICP and systemic blood pressure. Moreover, the method has been well improved and studies using conscious animal models without the influence of any drug or anesthesia are more appropriate in exploring the precise physiological and pharmacological mechanisms in erection. Also, more natural and physiological sexual arousal instead of electrical or pharmacological stimulation is desirable in most of the *** article reviewed the development of ICP studies in rats and mice.

Giant Volume Magnetostriction Caused by Itinerant Electron Metamagnetic Transition and Pronounced Invar Effects in La(Fe_xSi_(1-x))_(13) Compounds

A first-order itinerant electron metamagnetic (IEM) transition above the Curie temperature Tc for ferromagnetic La(Fe_xSi_1-x)13 compounds has been confirmed by applying magnetic field. The volume change just above T_C for x=0.88 is huge of about 1.5%, which is caused by a large magnetic moment induced by the IEM transition. These compounds have a possibility for practical applications as giant magnetostrictive materials. Pronounced Invar effects bring about a negative thermal expansion below TC, closely correlated with the negative mode-mode coupling among spin fluctuations.
