An investigation was carried out by numerical simulation on a wind turbine airfoil and a blunt trailing-edge airfoil with and without vortex generators (VGs), and the performance of the airfoils was analyzed. By the simulation of airfoil DU 91-W2-250 it was verified that the numerical method and model were credible. Based on this airfoil, a new one with a blunt trailing edge of 6% chord was blended by symmetrically adding thickness, and its characteristics curves were obtained through computing at key angles of attack. Additionally, the pressure distribution on blended airfoil was analyzed by comparing to the airfoil without blend. The interaction of streamwise vortices induced by VGs with trailing vortex or separation vortex was considered, followed by the uncovery of how VGs can suppress the boundary layer separation.

Experimental study on phosphorus release from sediments of shallow lake in wave flume

Influence of wave on sediment resuspension and nutrients release from sediments, collected from Lake Taihu and Lake Chaohu, was studied in flume experiments. Under strong-wave conditions, concentrations of suspended solids (SS), total phosphorus (TP) and dissolved total phosphorus (DTP) in overlying water were increased significantly following the sediments re-suspension. During the experiments on sediments of Lake Taihu and Lake Chaohu, TP concentrations increased 6 times and 3 times, and DTP concentration increased 100% and 70% more than it in presuspension, respectively. Concentration of soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) of experiment on sediment of Lake Taihu increased 25%. During the massive sediment suspension, the dissolved phosphorus in pore water and much of the phosphorus adsorbed by the sediment particles were released into overlying water. The phenomena in this wave flume experiment are quite similar to the situation observed in situ of Lake Taihu. The critical wave stresses of sediment re-suspension are nearly equal. The change of concentrations of SS, TP, and SRP was the same as that in situ *** study showed that concentrations of TP and SRP in lake water could be increased significantly by wave disturbance. Phosphorus release was significantly enhanced by wave disturbance at the beginning of massive sediment re-suspension, but decreased later.

Anti-implantation effect of droloxifene in rats and its relationship with anti-estrogenic activity

Aim: To investigate the anti-implantation effect of droloxifene and study the possible relationship between the anti-estrogenic activity of droloxifene and its antiimplantation effect. Methods: Pregnant rats were treated orally with droloxifene at 10:00 AM on d 2 at doses of 1.25-20 mg/kg to observe anti-implantation effects, and then doses of 14 mg/kg or 2.5 mg/kg were given at different time on d 2 to d 5 to determine the optimal administration time for anti-implantation effects. Pregnant rats were treated with a combination of droloxifene (2.5 mg/kg, ig) and E2 (0.5-8.0μg/kg, sc) on the optimal administration time to observe the antagonistic effect of external estrogen on the anti-implantation effect of droloxifene. Serum estrogen and progesterone levels were measured by carrying out radioimmunoas says on d 1 to d 6 in droloxifene-treated and control rats to determine the surge time for nidatory estrogen and the effect of droloxifene on ovary function. Results: Droloxifene has anti-implantation effects in rats. The optimal oral administration time was at 22:00 PM on d 4, which was after the surge time for nidatory estrogen (on d 4 at 10:00 AM). This suggests that the anti-implantation effect of droloxifene is not attributable to antagonism of the surge in secretion of nidatory estrogen. External estrogen did not antagonize the anti-implantation effect of droloxifene. Droloxifene had no effect on the serum levels of estrogen and progesterone on d 5 or d 6 when administered on d 4 at 22:00 PM. Conclusion: Droloxifene has an anti-implantation effect in rats, and the effect appears to be not completely due to its anti-estrogenic activity.

The comparative pollination biology of a population of Primula beesiana,a population of ***,and an overlapping population of these two species in Yulong Shan,Yunnan Province,china,was studied in 2004 and *** results indicate that both *** and *** are typical heterostylous and obligate outcrossing species;the main pollinators of the two species were bees and *** the sites of all three populations,the main pollinating visitors of the two species showed preference for one of the two species,resulting in the ethological isolation of the two species by the *** ethological isolation contributes to the reproductive isolation of the two species,which supports the hypothesis that *** and *** are two distinct *** reproductive isolation of the two species (ethological isolation) is probably an important mechanism in maintaining species boundaries in the genus and has contributed to the species diversification of Primula in the *** addition,gene exchanges between *** and *** has occurred to some extent in the overlapping population,but whether natural hybridization has contributed to species diversification in Primula remains to be determined.

Over the past two decades, molecular techniques have been widely used in ecological study and molecular ecology has been one of the most important branches of ecology. Meanwhile, genetic fingerprinting analyses have significantly enhanced our knowledge of the diversity and evolutionary relations of the planktonic organisms. Compared with conventional approaches in ecological study (e.g. morphological classification), genetic fingerprinting techniques are simpler and much more effective. This review provides an overview of the principles, advantages and limitations of the commonly used DNA fingerprinting techniques in plankton research. The aim of this overview is to assess where we have been, where we are now and what the future holds for solving aquatic ecological problems with molecular-level information.

The distribution of trivalent and tetravalent cations in several ATxV6-xO11 compounds was quantitatively studied by the bond valence method. In SrV6O11, the M(3) sites were mainly occupied by trivaient cations; while M(1) and M(2) sites were shared by trivalent and tetravalent cations, the relative content of tetravalent at M(1) sites was higher than at M(2) sites. During substitution process, the trivalent cations preferred to occupy M(3) sites, tetravalent ones preferred to occupy M(2) sites. In cooperation with figure-of-merits the Rietveld analysis can appraise both angular and intensity data of powder diffraction. In this work, X-ray diffraction pattern of Bi4(SiO4)3 was redetermined with intensity figure-of-merits, which qualify agreement between observed and calculated relative intensities. F30 is 158.90 (0.0059, 32), intensity figure of merit Rint is 8.7, I20(17), 8.0. The values of figure-of-merits show that the data of JCPDS cards are distorted. Both the experimental and calculated peak positions and heights are listed in detail.

Aim: To record the single-channel currents and characterize the electrophysiological properties of the Cl^- channels inhuman sperm membrane. Methods: The membrane proteins extracted from the human sperm were reassembled intoliposome bilayer, and the liposomes were fused into giant liposomes with a diameter more than 10μm by dehydration-rehydration procedure. The giant liposomes were used to study the Cl^- channel activities by patch-clamp ***: By patch clamping the giant liposome in an asymmetric NMDG (N-methyl-D-glucamine)-Cl (bath 100//pipette 200 mmol/L) solution system, three kinds of single-channel events with unit conductances of (74.1 ± 8.3) pS,(117.0±5.7) pS and (144.7±4.5) pS, respectively, were detected. Their activities were voltage-dependent and allwere blocked by SITS (4-acetamido-4'-isothiocyanato-stilbene-2', 2'-disulfonic acid) in a concentration-dependentmanner. By constructing the open and close dwell time distribution histograms and then fitting them with exponentialfunction, two time constants were obtained in both the open and the close states. The burst activity and conductancesubstate of the channels were observed. Conclusion; There exist three kinds of Cl^- channels with different conduc-tance in human sperm membrane at least. Trail, a tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, is a novel potent endogenous activator of the cell death pathway through the activation of cell surface death receptors Trail-R1 and Trail-R2. Its role, like FasL in activation-induced cell death (AICD), has been demonstrated in immune system. However the mechanism of Trail induced apoptosis remains nuclear. In this report, the recombinant Trail protein was expressed and purified. The apoptosis-inducing activity and the regulation mechanism of recombinant Trail on Jurkat T cells were explored in vitro. Trypan blue exclusion assay demonstrated that the recombinant Trail protein actively killed Jurkat T cells in a dose-dependent manner. Trail-induced apoptosis in Jurkat T cells were remarkably reduced by Bcl-2 over expression in BcL-2 gene transfected cells. Treatment with PMA (phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate), a PKC activator, suppressed nail-induced apoptosis in Jurkat T cells. The inhibition of apoptosis by PMA was abolished by pretreatment with Bis, a PKC inhibitor. Taken together, it was suggested that Bcl-2 over-expression and PMA activated PKC actively down-regulated the Trail-mediated apoptosis in Jurkat T cell.
