Effects of deep low temperature on secondary branches enclosed in Glisson 's system of pig hepatic lobes

Hepatic cryosurgery, a safe and effective approach for an unresectable hepatoma, has been extensively applied in clinical setting. But whether direct deep freezing to the tumor involving special location, i. e. , Glisson's system of certain hepatic lobe could cause the impairment of the duct system or post impairment effect remains a mystery. Consequently, the aim of the study was to investigate the effect of freezing on the secondary branches enclosed in the Glisson's system of certain hepatic lobes. METHODS:Twenty pigs were divided into 2 groups randomly. The treated group:the area of secondary branches of the Glisson's system in the left lateral lobe was frozen by a cryoprobe at deep low temperature for 3 minutes, with the blockage of blood flow from the porta hepatis. The control group:only the blockage of the porta hepatis was performed for 3 minutes. Serologic examinations, color Doppler examination and pathological observation were used for evaluation of this procedure postoperatively. RESULTS:The frozen hepatic parenchyma, the wall of the frozen secondary bile duct and portal vein showed necrosis. However, the frozen hepatic artery ramification did not show any obvious changes postoperatively. Eight weeks after cryosurgery, the lumen of the hepatic artery and portal vein maintained unobstructed. Meanwhile, atrophy and fibroplasia occurred in the related hepatic lobe. All the animals recovered well. CONCLUSIONS:Animals could tolerate the direct deepfreezing of the area of secondary branches enclosed in the Glisson's system. The therapeutic effect could be attained by the necrosis of the frozen hepatic parenchyma.

Linearly time-varying channel estimation and training power allocation for OFDM/MIMO systems using superimposed training

We address the problem of estimating the linearly time-varying (LTV) channel of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)/multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems using superimposed training (ST).The LTV channel is modeled by truncated discrete Fourier *** on this model,a two-step approach is adopted to estimate the LTV channel over multiple OFDM *** also present performance analysis of the channel estimation and derive a closed-form expression for the channel estimation *** is shown that the estimation variances,unlike that of the conventional ST-based schemes,approach to a fixed lower-bound as the training length increases,which is directly proportional to information-pilot power *** wireless communication systems with a limited transmission power,we optimize the ST power allocation by maximizing the lower bound of the average channel *** results show that the proposed approach outperforms the frequency-division multiplexed training schemes.

In this article, we prove that any complete finite index hypersurface in the hyperbolic space H4（-1）（H5（-1）） with constant mean curvature H satisfying H2 6634 （H2 114785 respectively） must be compact. Specially, we verify that any complete and stable hypersurface in the hyperbolic space H4（-1）（resp. H5（-1）） with constant mean curvature H satisfying H2 6643 （resp. H2 114785 ） must be compact. It shows that there is no manifold satisfying the conditions of some theorems in [7, 9].

Expression of p27,cyclin E and cyclin A in hepatocellular carcinoma and its clinical significance

AIM: TO investigate the expression of p27, cyclin E andcyclin A in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and its potential clinical ***: Expression of p27, cyclin E and cyclin A in 45 HCC specimens and 30 adjacent noncancerous lesions obtained from 45 patients during surgery was examined by immunohistochemical SABC assay. The diameter of tumor ranged from 1 cm to 19 cm (d≤5 cm, 9 samples; 5 cm10 cm, 17 samples). The tumors were graded according to the criteria described by EdmondsonSteiner: well-differentiated HCC group (Grade Ⅰ+Ⅱ), 26 samples; poorly-differentiated HCC group (Grade Ⅲ+Ⅳ),19 samples. According to the clinical-pathologic features,19 samples were poorly encapsulated, 15 samples had portal invasion of cancer, 11 samples had extrahepatic metastasis,and 12 samples had intrahepatic metastasis. All of the samples were classified as the invasive and metastatic group,while the remaining was classified as the non-invasive and non- metastatic ***: The average labeling index (LI) of p27 in HCC lesions was significantly higher than that in adjacent noncancerous lesions (45.87±14.21 vs33.77±12.92, t=3.745,P34.46±12.29 vs 52.80±11.36, t=5.17; 41.42±12.86 vs51.44±14.10, t=2.48;P35.6 %)while cyclin A was overexpressed in 21 cases (46.7 %) in HCC lesions. No overexpression of cyclin E or cyclin A could be observed in adjacent non-carcinoma lesions and normal liver tissues. The overexpressions of cyclin E and cyclin A were correlated with differentiation, tumor thrombus,invasiveness and metastasis (P329, P33±11.91 vs 49.50±13.76, t=3.05; 38.86±11.19 vs 52.57±12.62,t=3.89; P<0.05).CONCLUSION: p27,

Background Hoop et al. (J Nucl Med. 1976;17:473-479) observed 1 recurrent astrocytoma and 1 glioma showed reduced uptake of 13N-NH3 at the lesions. Schelstraete et al. (Br J Radiol. 1982;55:797-804) observed litter or no extra uptake of 13N-NH3 in 4 primary brain tumors. Benard et al. (Semi Nucl Med. 2003;33:148-162) thought 13N-13N-NH3 was unsuccessful in visualizing primary brain tumors. Purpose The aim of this study was re-evaluated the role of 13N-NH3 PET in brain tumor. Methods 13N- NH3 PET was performed in 47 patients (30male and 17 female patients;age range 18-62 years ) with suspected primary brain tumor or recurrent tumor detected by MRI. Five minutes after injection of 555-740 MBq of 13N-13N-NH3, attenuation-corrected brain images were obtained with a dedicated PET scanner. A histopathological diagnosis was made for 39 of them by open surgery or stereotatic biopsy, and the others were confirmed by clinical or radiologic follow-up, including 10 cases with astrocytoma grade Ⅰ or Ⅱ, 15 astrocytomas grade Ⅲ or Ⅳ(7 of them were tumor recurrence), 2 oligodendroglioma grade Ⅰ, 1 dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor (DNT), 2 meningiomas, 2 metastatic tumors, 5 radiation necrosis, 7 encephalomyelitic foci, 2 ischemic lesions, 1 reactive gliosis. PET images were visually inspected, and the uptake ratios of lesion to contralateral normal brain tissue (T/N) were determined. Results Twenty-seven of thirty-two brain tumor exhibited markedly increased uptake of 13N-NH3. 2 oligodendroglioma, 1 DNT, 1 metastatic tumors and one low-grade astrocytoma in brain stem showed absent 13N-NH3 uptake. The 15 non-neoplastic lesions exhibited absent or less 13N-NH3 uptake. The sensitivity and specificity of 13N- NH3 PET for detecting brain tumor were 27 (84%) of 32 and 15 (100%) of 15, respectively. Purposes: To compare the multi-channel pattern visual evoked potentials to Humphrey perimetry in the assessment of central visual function in primary open angle glaucoma. Methods: The multi-channel checkerboard reversal PVEPs waves to full-field and half-field stimulus of 25 normal persons and 74 patients with primary open angle glaucoma were recorded and analyzed, All patients were examined using Humphrey Field Analyzer. Background and Objective: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant cancers in the world. Although the clinicopathologic staging is the golden criterion for the prognosis at present, the optimum prognostic criteria for colorectal cancer should be a combination of the clinicopathologic staging and the molecular markers. However, there are currently no molecular markers available for the prognosis of colorectal cancer. Several tumor-suppressor genes associated with colorectal cancer have been mapped at the 18q21-23 region. In this study we detected the frequency of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at chromosome 18q and investigated the relationship between LOH and clinicopathologic features and its prognostic value for patients with stage Ⅱ colon cancer. Methods: A total of 106 samples of tumor tissues and corresponding normal mucosa from patients with sporadic stage-Ⅱ colon cancer were included in this study. All the samples were formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded. DNA was extracted from tumor tissues and LOH of D18S474, D18S55, D18S58, D18S61 and D18S64 at chromosome 18q was analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), polyacrylamide gel-electrophoresis, and DNA sequencing method. Multivariate analysis for association between LOH and prognosis in colon cancer patients was performed with Cox proportional hazards regression model. Results: The median follow-up time was 68 months. For 106 patients, 5-year survival rate was 83.6%, which was associated with age and gross tumor type (P = 0.011 and 0.034, respectively). Among 102 patients who were eligible for LOH information, the overall frequency of LOH is 49.0% (50/102), and that of LOH at 5 microsatellite loci of D18S474, D18S55, D18S58, D18S61, and D18S64 was 30.2% (26/86), 23.4% (18/77), 28.6% (20/70), 35.0% (28/80), and 20.8%(15/72), respectively.
