Advances in regional nodal management of early-stage breast cancer

With the continuous improvement of systemic treatment, reasonable local regional control of early-stage breast cancer can be translated into survival benefits. The optimization of regional nodal management in patients with limited sentinel lymph node(SLN) metastasis needs to be weighed by surgical complications, regional recurrence risk, and lymph node status, as well as other escalating treatment(systemic/radiotherapy) that may result from deescalating surgery. With the effective support and supplementation of systemic therapy and radiotherapy, the management of axillary surgery is developing in a de-escalating trend. The widespread application of neoadjuvant therapy has contributed to optimizing the management of patients with clinically node-negative/imaging nodepositive disease. In clinical practice, it is necessary to consider the residual tumor burden of regional lymph nodes when formulating the optimal irradiation fields in patients with limited positive SLN without axillary lymph node dissection. The combined application of genomic tests and American College of Surgeons Oncology Group Z0011/AMAROS criteria could provide patients with a better strategy of dual de-escalation treatment, which includes the de-escalation of both axillary surgery and systemic treatment. In the era of sentinel lymph node biopsy(SLNB), the regional nodal management of breast cancer should adhere to the concept of “updating ideas, making bold assumptions, and carefully seeking proof”, make full use of the benefits of systemic therapy and radiotherapy to reduce the scope of surgery and complications, and expand the “net benefit” of efficacy and quality of life. This review discusses the optimization of regional nodal management in the era of SLNB, in order to provide reference information for clinicians.

Prediction of Grinding Force by an Electroplated Grinding Wheel with Orderly-Micro-Grooves

The ability to predict a grinding force is important to control,monitor,and optimize the grinding process.Few theoretical models were developed to predict grinding forces when a structured wheel was used in a grinding process.This paper aimed to establish a single-grit cutting force model to predict the ploughing,friction and cutting forces in a grinding process.It took into the consideration of actual topography of the grinding wheel,and a theoretical grinding force model for grinding hardened AISI 52100 by the wheel with orderly-micro-grooves was proposed.The model was innovative in the sense that it represented the random thickness of undeformed chips by a probabilistic expression,and it reflected the microstructure characteristics of the structured wheel explicitly.Note that the microstructure depended on the randomness of the protruding heights and distribution density of the grits over the wheel.The proposed force prediction model was validated by surface grinding experiments,and the results showed(1)a good agreement of the predicted and measured forces and(2)a good agreement of the changes of the grinding forces along with the changes of grinding parameters in the prediction model and experiments.This research proposed a theoretical grinding force model of an electroplated grinding wheel with orderly-micro-grooves which is accurate,reliable and effective in predicting grinding forces.

ORPA:a fast and efficient phylogenetic analysis method for constructing genome-wide alignments of organelle genomes

Creating a multi-gene alignment matrix for phylogenetic analysis using organelle genomes involves aligning single-gene datasets manually,a process that can be time-consuming and prone to errors.The HomBlocks pipeline has been created to eliminate the inaccuracies arising from manual operations.The processing of a large number of sequences,however,remains a time-consuming task.To conquer this challenge,we develop a speedy and efficient method called Organelle Genomes for Phylogenetic Analysis(ORPA).ORPA can quickly generate multiple sequence alignments for whole-genome comparisons by parsing the result files of NCbi BLAST,completing the task just in 1 min.With increasing data volume,the efficiency of ORPA is even more pronounced,over 300 times faster than HomBlocks in aligning 60 high-plant chloroplast genomes.The phylogenetic tree outputs from ORPA are equivalent to HomBlocks,indicating its outstanding efficiency.Due to its speed and accuracy,ORPA can identify species-level evolutionary conflicts,providing valuable insights into evolutionary cognition.

In this paper,we study a family of Hartogs domains fibred over Hermitian symmetric manifolds being a unit ball in C^(m).The aim of the present study is to establish the rigidity results about proper holomorphic mappings between two equidimensional Hartogs domains over Hermitian symmetric manifolds.In particular,we can fully determine its biholomorphic equivalence and automorphism group.

Graph-based robot optimal path planning with bio-inspired algorithms

Recently,bio-inspired algorithms have been increasingly explored for autonomous robot path planning on grid-based maps.However,these approaches endure performance degradation as problem complexity increases,often resulting in lengthy search times to find an optimal solution.This limitation is particularly critical for real-world applications like autonomous off-road vehicles,where highquality path computation is essential for energy efficiency.To address these challenges,this paper proposes a new graph-based optimal path planning approach that leverages a sort of bio-inspired algorithm,improved seagull optimization algorithm(iSOA)for rapid path planning of autonomous robots.A modified Douglas–Peucker(mDP)algorithm is developed to approximate irregular obstacles as polygonal obstacles based on the environment image in rough terrains.The resulting mDPderived graph is then modeled using a Maklink graph theory.By applying the iSOA approach,the trajectory of an autonomous robot in the workspace is optimized.Additionally,a Bezier-curve-based smoothing approach is developed to generate safer and smoother trajectories while adhering to curvature constraints.The proposed model is validated through simulated experiments undertaken in various real-world settings,and its performance is compared with state-of-the-art algorithms.The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms existing approaches in terms of time cost and path length.

In this paper,the friction behavior at a pin-to-plate interface is investigated.The pin and plate are made of Polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) and steel,respectively,and there is a reciprocating motion at the interface.Governing mathematical models for the relations of design variables and frictions are investigated,and a general procedure is proposed to solve the developed models and predict the friction forces at the interface subjected to given test conditions.Novel models have been developed to represent intrigued friction behaviors affected by various factors such as pin geometrics and finishes,lubrication conditions,and reciprocating speed.The test data from experiments is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed models.

In a recent study published in Science,Zhang et al.discovered that tripartite motif-containing(TRIM)protein 11(TRIM11)exhibited strong inhibition on tau aggregation,which is a pathological characteristic of tauopathies including Alzheimer’s disease(AD).1 This makes TRIM11 a promising novel target for the treatment of AD and other tauopathies.

Role of ferroptosis in fibrosis: From mechanism to potential therapy

Fibrosis, which is a manifestation of the physiological response to injury characterized by excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix components, is a ubiquitous outcome of the repair process. However, in cases of repetitive or severe injury, fibrosis may become dysregulated, leading to a pathological state and organ failure. In recent years, a novel form of regulated cell death, referred to as ferroptosis, has been identified as a possible contributor to fibrosis; it is characterized by iron-mediated lipid peroxidation. It has garnered attention due to the growing body of evidence linking ferroptosis and fibrogenesis, which is believed to be driven by underlying inflammation and immune responses. Despite the increasing interest in the relationship between ferroptosis and fibrosis, a comprehensive understanding of the precise role that ferroptosis plays in the formation of fibrotic tissue remains limited. This review seeks to synthesize previous research related to the topic. We categorized the different direct and indirect mechanisms by which ferroptosis may contribute to fibrosis into three categories: (1) iron overload toxicity; (2) ferroptosis-evoked necroinflammation, with a focus on ferroptosis and macrophage interplay; and (3) ferroptosis-associated pro-fibrotic factors and pathways. Furthermore, the review considers the potential implications of these findings and highlights the utilization of ferroptosis-targeted therapies as a promising strategy for mitigating the progression of fibrosis. In conclusion, novel anti-fibrotic treatments targeting ferroptosis could be an effective treatment for fibrosis.

A Reliable Iteration Algorithm for One-bit Compressive Sensing on the Unit Sphere

The one-bit compressed sensing problem is of fundamental importance in many areas,such as wireless communication,statistics,and so on.However,the optimization of one-bit problem coustrained on the unit sphere lacks an algorithm with rigorous mathematical proof of convergence and validity.In this paper,an iteration algorithm is established based on difference-of-convex algorithm for the one-bit compressed sensing problem constrained on the unit sphere,with iterating formula■,where C is the convex cone generated by the one-bit measurements andη_(1)>η_(2)>1/2.The new algorithm is proved to converge as long as the initial point is on the unit sphere and accords with the measurements,and the convergence to the global minimum point of the l_(1)norm is discussed.

Security estimation of LWE via BKW algorithms

The Learning With Errors(LWE)problem is widely used in lattice-based cryptography,which is the most promising post-quantum cryptography direction.There are a variety of LWE-solving methods,which can be classified into four groups:lattice methods,algebraic methods,combinatorial methods,and exhaustive searching.The Blum–Kalai–Wasserman(BKW)algorithm is an important variety of combinatorial algorithms,which was first presented for solving the Learning Parity With Noise(LPN)problem and then extended to solve LWE.In this paper,we give an overview of BKW algorithms for solving LWE.We introduce the framework and key techniques of BKW algorithms and make comparisons between different BKW algorithms and also with lattice methods by estimating concrete security of specific LWE instances.We also briefly discuss the current problems and potential future directions of BKW algorithms.
