Exploring prognostic potential of long noncoding RNAs in colorectal cancer based on a competing endogenous RNA network

Preparation and characterization of crosslinked chitosan-based nanofibers

Crosslinked chitosan-based nanofibers were successfully prepared via clectrospinning technique with heat mediated chemical crosslinldng followed. The structure, morphology and mechanical property of nanofibers were characterized by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （ATR-FTIR）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, Instron rnachine, respectively. The results showed that, nanofibers exhibited a smooth surface and regular morphology, and tensile strength of nanofibers improved with increasing of triethylene glycol dimethacrylate （TEGDMA） content.

Promoter Hypermethylation of KiSS-1 Gene in Gastric Cancer

Objective： To investigate the association between KiSS-1 methylation and clinicopathological characteristics of gastric cancer and evaluate the role of peritoneal lavage fluid in detecting peritoneal metastases. Methods： The methylation status of KiSS-1 gene in 40 gastric cancer specimens, the corresponding adjacent normal mucosa, lymph nodes and peritoneal lavage fluid was investigated by methylation-spcific polymerase chain reaction（MS-PCR）. Results： Aberrant methylation of KiSS-1 gene was detected in 55%（22/40） of the adjacent normal mucosa, 82.5% （33/40）of gastric cancer specimens, 80.95%（17/21） of the lymph nodes, and 42.5%（17/40） of peritoneal lavage fluid. Methylation in gastric carcinoma and lymphonode was more frequent than in non-neoplastic gastiric mucosa. Presence of KiSS-1 methylation in peritoneal lavage fluid was significantly correlated with tumor invasion （P=0.043）. The accuracy of KiSS-1 methylation in peritoneal lavage fluid for diagnosing peritoneal metastasis was 70%, with a sensitivity of 77.8% and a specificity of 67.7%. Conclusion： Aberrant methylation of KiSS-1 gene is a common event in the occurrence and progression of gastric carcinoma, which may provide useful information for the early diagnosis of peritoneal metastases and a new therapy for gastric cancer.

Quantitative and qualitative analysis of common peaks in chemical fingerprint of Yuanhu zhitong tablet by HPLC-DAD–MS/MS

A quality control （QC） strategy for quantitative and qualitative analysis of “common peaks” in chemical fingerprint was proposed to analyze Yuanhu zhitong tablet （YZT）, using high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector and tandem mass spectrometry （HPLC-DAD-MS/MS）. The chromatographic separation was achieved on an Agilent Eclipse plus C18 column with a gradient elution using a mixture of 0.4‰ ammonium acetate aqueous （pH 6.0 adjusted with glacial acetic acid） and acetonitrile. In chemical fingerprint, 40 peaks were assigned as the “common peaks”. For quantification of “common peaks”, the detection wavelength was set at 254 nm, 270 nm, 280 nm and 345 nm, respectively. The method was validated and good results were obtained to simultaneously determine 10 analytes （protopine, jatrorrhizine, coptisine, palmatine, berberine, xanthotoxin, bergapten, tetrahydropalmatine, imperatorin and isoimperatorin）. For qualification of “common peaks”, 33 compounds including 10 quantitative analytes were identified or tentatively characterized using LC-MS/MS. These results demonstrated that the present approach may be a powerful and useful tool to tackle the complex quality issue of YZT.

Prospects on mangrove knowledge services in the smart era: From plant atlas to knowledge graphs

Mangroves are crucial to the ecological security of the Earth and human well-being. Their management, conservation, and restoration are of great importance and necessitate the support of spatio-temporal information and multidisciplinary knowledge such as biology and ecology. Traditional knowledge services such as plant atlas provide illustrated textual knowledge of mangroves. However, this kind of service is oriented to information retrieval and is incapable of effectively mining and utilizing fragmented knowledge from multi-source heterogeneous data, facing the problem of “massive data, rare knowledge”. Knowledge graphs are capable of extracting, organizing, and fusing the knowledge contained in massive data into semantic networks that can be understood and computed by computers. They provide a solution for the realization of intelligent knowledge services. Focusing on the urgent need for mangrove knowledge acquisition, formal representation, and intelligent services, this paper proposes a research prospect on mangrove knowledge graphs and knowledge services. We first analyze the similarities and differences between various domain-specific concepts of Tupu. On this basis, we define the mangrove knowledge graph as a large-scale knowledge base that integrates multi-disciplinary knowledge and spatio-temporal information with mangrove ecosystems as the core. Then, we propose a research framework for mangrove knowledge services that can realize the transformation from multi-modal data to intelligent knowledge services, including multiple research levels such as ubiquitous data sensing and aggregation, knowledge organization and graph construction, and intelligent mangrove knowledge services. Subsequently, the methods and workflow for constructing mangrove knowledge graphs are introduced. A low redox potential and long life organic anode material for sodium-ion batteries

Sodium-ion batteries （SIBs） with organic electrodes are an emerging research direction due to the sustainability of organic materials based on elements like C,H,O,and sodium ***,organic electrode materials for SIBs are mainly used as cathodes because of their relatively high redox potentials（>1 V）.Organic electrodes with low redox potential that can be used as anode are ***,a novel organic anode material （tetrasodium 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylate,Na4TDC） has been developed with low redox potential （<0.7 V） and excellent cyclic *** three-sodium storage mechanism was demonstrated with various in-situ/ex-situ spectroscopy and theoretical calculations,showing a high capacity of 208 mAh/g and an average decay rate of merely 0.022%per ***,the Na4TDC-hard carbon composite can further acquire improved capacity and cycling stability for 1200 cycles even with a high mass loading of up to 20 mg *** pairing with a thick Na3V2（PO4）3cathode (20.6 mg cm-2),the as-fabricated full cell exhibited high operating voltage （2.8 V）,excellent rate performance and cycling stability with a high capacity retention of 88.7% after 200 cycles,well highlighting the Na4TDC anode material for SIBs.

Heme oxygenase-1 regulates the major route involved in formation of immune hepatic fibrosis in rats

Background Heme oxygenase （HO） plays roles in some liver diseases, but what it does in immune liver fibrosis is rarely reported. We investigated the regulation mechanisms of HO-1 in rat immune liver fibrosis to find routes for intervention. Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into control group （N, n=-12）, fibrosis group （F, n=20）, cobalt protoporphyrin （CoPP） inducing group （Co, n=20） and zinc protoporphyrin （ZnPP） inhibiting group （Zn, n=20）. In groups F, Co and Zn, immune liver fibrosis was established with human serum albumin. At the attacked stage, CoPP （5 mg/kg） and ZnPP （5 mg/kg） were intraperitoneally injected in groups Co and Zn, respectively. After establishment of rat models, the numbers of rats reduced to 11, 15, 17 and 12 in groups N, F, Co and Zn respectively, because of death during the process. HO-1 in liver was detected by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. The indexes of fibrosis were assessed by radioimmunoassay. Concentrations of serum transforming growth factor-β1 （TGF-β1）, and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinses （TIMP-1） were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Hepatic stellate cell （HSC） and proliferation degree of fibrosis were assessed by pathological examination. Data analysis was performed by SPSS 10.0 software. Results The expression of HO-1 in group F was significantly higher than that in group N, but lower than that in group Co （P 〈0.05）; while that in group Zn was lower than in group F （P 〈0.05）, but still higher than that in group N （P 〈0.01）. Compared with group N, liver functional and liver fibrosis indicators were increased in group F （P 〈0.01）, while comparing to group F, they were decreased in group Co （P 〈0.05） and increased in group Zn （P 〈0.05）. CoPP reduced the extent of hepatocellular injury and hepatic fibrosis in comparison with group F （P 〈0.01）, being the opposite effect of ZnPP （P 〈0.01）.
