Major royal-jelly proteins intake modulates immune functions and gut microbiota in mice

In this study,we investigated the effects of major royal jelly proteins(MRJPs)on the estrogen,gut microbiota,and immunological responses in mice.Mice given 250 or 500 mg/kg,not 125 mg/kg of MRJPs,enhanced the proliferation of splenocytes in response to mitogens.The splenocytes and mesenteric lymphocytes activated by T-cell mitogens(Con A and anti-CD3/CD28 antibodies)released high levels of IL-2 but low levels of IFN-γand IL-17A.The release of IL-4 was unaffected by MRJPs.Additionally,splenocytes and mesenteric lymphocytes activated by LPS were prevented by MRJPs at the same dose as that required for producing IL-1βand IL-6,two pro-inflammatory cytokines.The production of IL-1β,IL-6,and IFN-γwas negatively associated with estrogen levels,which were higher in the MRJP-treated animals than in the control group.Analysis of the gut microbiota revealed that feeding mice 250 mg/kg of MRJPs maintained the stability of the natural intestinal microflora of mice.Additionally,the LEf Se analysis identified biomarkers in the MRJP-treated mice,including Prevotella,Bacillales,Enterobacteriales,Gammaproteobacteria,Candidatus_Arthromitus,and Shigella.Our results showed that MRJPs are important components of royal jelly that modulate host immunity and hormone levels and help maintain gut microbiota stability.

Development status of high power fiber lasers and their coherent beam combination

High-power fiber laser has been emerged great potential in a wide range of applications and becomes a robust candidate for high energy solid state laser system. To further increase the output brightness of single-channel fiber laser, high-brightness pump sources and high-power-handling passive components should be fabricated and utilized in the fiber laser systems, in addition to the advanced techniques for multiple nonlinear effects managements. The state-of-the-art high power fiber lasers are reviewed, in terms of narrow-linewidth fiber lasers, broadband fiber lasers and fiber lasers at 2 μm. Coherent beam combining is a promising technique to obtain higher output power while maintaining excellent beam quality simultaneously,which breaks through the bottlenecks of single-channel fiber laser. Based on a series of key techniques for coherent beam combining, high-power coherent beam combining of fiber lasers could be enabled with high combining efficiency. In this paper, we review the progress of high-power fiber lasers and their coherent beam combining in the recent decade, particularly the relevant work in our group. The future prospects of fiber lasers and coherent beam combining technique are also discussed.

Direct Observation on H-Elimination Enhancement from C_(2)H_(4) through Non-Adiabatic Process by Femtosecond Laser Induced Coulomb Explosion

Ethylene, the simplest model of a carbon-carbon double bond system, is pivotal in numerous chemical and biological processes. By employing intense infrared laser pump-probe techniques alongside coincidence measurements, we investigate the ultrafast non-adiabatic dynamics involved in the breakage of carbon-carbon double bonds and hydrogen elimination in dissociation of ethylene. Our study entails analyzing the dynamic kinetic energy release spectra to assess three bond-breaking scenarios, movements of nuclei, and structural changes around the carbon atoms. This allows us to evaluate the relaxation dynamics and characteristics of various dissociative states. Notably, we observe a significant rise in the yield of fragments resulting from C–H bond breakage with the delay time extended, suggesting non-adiabatic coupling through conical intersections from C–C bond breakage as a probable cause.

Investigation on extreme frequency shift in silica fiber-based high-power Raman fiber laser

In this paper, we experimentally investigated the extreme frequency shift in high-power Raman fiber laser(RFL). The RFL was developed by using a pair of fiber Bragg gratings with fixed and matched central wavelength(1120 nm)combined with a piece of 31-m-long polarization maintaining(PM) passive fiber adopted as Raman gain medium.The pump source was a homemade high-power, linearly polarized(LP) wavelength-tunable master oscillator power amplifier(MOPA) source with ～25 nm tunable working range(1055–1080 nm). High-power and high-efficiency RFL with extreme frequency shift between the pump and Stokes light was explored. It is found that frequency shift located within 10.6 THz and 15.2 THz can ensure efficient Raman lasing, where the conversion efficiency is more than 95% of the maximal value, 71.3%. In addition, a maximum output power of 147.1 W was obtained with an optical efficiency of71.3%, which is the highest power ever reported in LP RFLs to the best of our knowledge.

Naringenin as a natural immunomodulator against T-cell-mediated autoimmune diseases

Naringenin is the aglycone of naringin with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-atherosclerotic, and antibacterial activities. Current research supports naringenin as a new generation of immune modulators, which is of great significance for preventing and treating T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases. This study aimed to detect the possible effects and molecular mechanisms of naringenin against T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases, including multiple sclerosis(MS), inflammatory bowel disease(IBD), and rheumatoid arthritis(RA), by network pharmacology. Methods Firstly, the target of naringenin was predicted by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology(TCMSP), Swiss Target Prediction, the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database(TCD), and the diseases target were studied by GeneGards and DisgeNet database. Then obtain target gene information in UniProt database, submit to String, DAVID database for PPI, GO, and KEGG analysis. The network was visualized by Cytoscape 3.72 software. Finally, the ligands of the core targets were determined from the PDB database, and the molecular docking with naringenin was performed using PyMol and AutoDock software. Results Dietary naringenin ameliorates EAE clinical symptoms via inhibiting T cell proliferation and T cell differentiation, and reducing the CNS cell infiltration by blocking chemokine-mediated migration of DCs and pathogenic T cells into the CNS. The predition of DAVID enrichment analysis, PPI protein networkinteraction analysis, and molecular docking found that a total of sixteen common genes were observed,among which the core gene was PTGS2, ESR1, CAT, CASP3, MAPK1, AKT1, and thepossible molecular mechanism is related to the signaling pathways of HIF-1, estrogen, TNF, and NF-kB. Conclusion This study provided a new strategy and possible molecular mechanism for naringenin in treating T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases through network pharmacological studies. This work explored the impact of the major royal jellyproteins(MRJPs) isolated from royal jelly on the murine immune responses andgut microbiota. Methods We evaluated the immune function and gut microbiotaafter female C57 BL/6 mice orally administrated with MRJPs at 0, 125, 250, and500 mg/kg for 4 weeks via ELISA, flow cytometry, and 16 s DNA emthods. Results Compared to mice given MRJPs at 0 mg/kg, mice givenMRJPs at 250 or 500 mg/kg had an increase of mitogens-stimulated splenocyteproliferation;whereas, such did not occur in mesenteric lymph nodes(mLN). Additionally,MRJPs at 250 or 500 mg/kg increased the IL-2 production but inhibited the IFN-γand IL-17 A production of splenocytes and mesenteric lymphocytes triggered byT-cell mitogens. However, MRJPs administration did not affect the production ofIL-4. Interestingly, MRJPs at 250 or 500 mg/kg inhibited the production ofinflammatory cytokines(IL-1β and IL-6) in LPSstimulated splenocytes and mesentericlymphocytes. Significantly, MRJPs at 500 mg/kg induced a potent effect on theimmunities, which was used to evaluate the impact of MRJPs on gut microbiota. MRJPsincreased the alpha-diversity of gut microbiota and the abundance of Bacteroidetesbut decreased the abundance of Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, andActinobacteria at the phylum level. MRJPs also increased the relativeabundance of Lactobacillus, Prevotella, Bifidobacterium,and Bacteroides at the genus level. Finally,correlation analysis indicated that Allobaculum correlated positivelywith IFN-γ;Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium correlatedpositively with IL-2 and correlated negatively with IFN-γ and IL-6;Prevotellacorrelated negatively with IFN-γ and IL-6;Bacteroides correlatedpositively with IL-2 and correlated negatively with IFN-γ and IL-4;CF231 correlated positively with IL-4. Conclusion Our findings contribute to better presenting the beneficial effect of MRJPs as the critical components in royal jelly on promoting immunities and gut microbiota.

Highly efficient continuous-wave mid-infrared generation based on intracavity difference frequency mixing

We report on a new scheme for efficient continuous-wave(CW)mid-infrared generation using difference frequency generation(DFG)inside a periodically poled lithium niobate(PPLN)-based optical parametric oscillator(OPO).The pump sources were two CW fiber lasers fixed at 1018 nm and 1080 nm.One worked as the assisted laser to build parametric oscillation and generate an oscillating signal beam while the other worked at low power(3 W)to induce DFG between it and the signal beam.The PPLN temperature was appropriately adjusted to enable OPO and DFG to synchronously meet phase-matching conditions.Finally,both low-power 1018 nm and 1080 nm pump beams were successfully converted to 3.1μm and 3.7μm idler beams,respectively.The conversion efficiencies of the 1018 nm and 1080 nm pumped DFG reached 20% and 15%,respectively,while their slope efficiencies reached 19.6% and 15%.All these data were comparable to the OPOs pumped by themselves and never realized before in traditional CW DFG schemes.The results reveal that high-efficiency frequency down-conversion can be achieved with a low-power nearinfrared pump source.

Bursts with shape-alterable pulses in a compact Tm-doped fiber laser with simultaneous active intracavity phase and intensity modulations

We present a compact Tm-doped fiber laser(TDFL)to generate pulse bursts at 1.92μm based on phase and intensity modulations.A phase modulator(PM)and an intensity modulator(IM)were included in the linear TDFL cavity to perform the simultaneous active intracavity phase and intensity modulation.Stable pulse bursts have been achieved with tunable repetition rate in the range of 36–44 kHz(modulated by the PM)and duration of about 9.6μs.The repetition rate of the individual pulse in a burst is about 9 MHz(modulated by the IM),and the pulse width is about 6 ns.By changing the IM signal’s repetition rate and duty cycle,different individual pulse shapes are obtained with pulse durations between 6 and 34 ns.

1.3 kW monolithic linearly polarized single-mode master oscillator power amplifier and strategies for mitigating mode instabilities

We report on the high-power amplification of a 1064 nm linearly polarized laser in an all-fiber polarizationmaintained master oscillator power amplifier,which can operate at an output power level of 1.3 kW.The beam quality(M^2) was measured to be <1.2 at full power operation.The polarization extinction rate of the fiber amplifier was measured to be above 94% before mode instabilities(MIs) set in,which reduced to about 90% after the onset of MI.The power scaling capability of strategies for suppressing MI is analyzed based on a semianalytical model,the theoretical results of which agree with the experimental results.It shows that mitigating MI by coiling the gain fiber is an effective and practical method in standard double-cladding large mode area fiber,and,by tight coiling of the gain fiber to the radius of 5.5 cm,the MI threshold can be increased to three times higher than that without coiling or loose coiling.Experimental studies have been carried out to verify the idea,which has proved that MI was suppressed successfully in the amplifier by proper coiling.

Investigation on random distributed feedback Raman fiber laser with linear polarized output

A random distributed feedback fiber laser with linear polarized output at 1178 nm is presented. Linear polarization is realized by fiber coiling in a half-opened cavity of a polarization maintaining random fiber laser structure.The single linear polarization laser output power reaches ~3 W with polarization extinction ratio >14 dB. Further investigations on the coiling technique and additional feedback are also studied. So far as we know, this is the first reported linear polarized random distributed feedback Raman fiber laser.
