the physics of laser-plasma interaction is studied on the Shenguang III prototype laser facility under conditions relevant to inertial confinement fusion designs.A sub-millimeter-size underdense hot plasma is created by ionization of a low-density plastic foam by four high-energy(3.2 kj)laser *** interaction beam is fired with a delay permitting evaluation of the excitation of parametric instabilities at different stages of plasma *** diagnostics are used for plasma characterization,scattered radiation,and accelerated *** experimental results are analyzed with radiation hydrodynamic simulations that take account of foam ionization and *** measured level of stimulated Raman scattering is almost one order of magnitude larger than that measured in experiments with gasbags and hohlraums on the same installation,possibly because of a greater plasma *** amplification is achieved in high-intensity speckles,indicating the importance of implementing laser temporal smoothing techniques with a large bandwidth for controlling laser propagation and absorption.

Exploring the uncertainties in theoretical predictions of nuclear β-decay half-lives

Nuclear β-decay half-lives are predicted based on an empirical formula and the mass predictions from various nuclear *** is found that the empirical formula can reproduce the nuclearβ-decay half-lives well,especially for short-lived nuclei with t_(1/2)theoretical half-life uncertainties fromβ-decay energies and the parameters of the empirical formula are further *** is found that the uncertainties of the half-lives are relatively large for heavy nuclei and nuclei near the neutron-drip *** nuclei on the r-process path,the uncertainties for those with N=126 are about one order of magnitude,which are much larger than the uncertainties for those with N=50 and ***,theoretical uncertainties from the parameters of the empirical formula are relatively small for the nuclei on the r-process path,which indicates that the empirical formula is very suitable for predicting theβ-decay half-lives in r-process simulations.

CO_(2)hydrogenation to methanol promoted by Cu and metastable tetragonal Ce_(x)zr_(y)O_(z) interface

Designing effective catalyst to improve the activity of CO_(2) hydrogenation to methanol is a potential avenue to realize the utilization of CO_(2) resources. Herein we construct three kinds of Cu/Ce_(x)zr_(y)O_(z)(CCz) catalysts with different crystal phases of Ce_(x)zr_(y)O_(z)solid solutions, which demonstrate distinct activity and methanol selectivity in the order of metastable tetragonal-CCz(CCz-t’’, parts of oxygen in Ce_(x)zr_(y)O_(z) were replaced by tetragonal phase from cubic fluorite phase) > tetragonal-CCz(CCz-t) > cubic-CCz(CCz-c) for CO_(2) hydrogenation to methanol. Structural analysis reveals that oxygen vacancies, surface hydroxyls and unsaturated Cu species of CCz all follow the same sequence as that of activity and methanol selectivity,indicating that the above features are beneficial to improve the catalytic reaction *** programmed experiments and mechanism studies show that the interface between Cu and tetragonal(t and t’’) Ce_(x)zr_(y)O_(z) can promote CO_(2) adsorption, and the adsorbed CO_(2) is more reactive and can generate active bidentate carbonate species, which can be hydrogenated to form active monodentate and bidentate formate species under CO_(2) and H_(2) atmosphere. these intermediates should be crucial to the formation of methanol product. CCz-t’’has stronger H_(2) activation ability than CCz-t, which makes the former catalyst have more intermediates and higher methanol selectivity. In contrast, CO_(2) mainly adsorbs on cubic Ce_(x)zr_(y)O_(z) support of CCz-c, but its H_(2) spillover ability is low, which hinders the reaction process. In addition, the strong adsorption of surface intermediates on CCz-c is also not conducive to methanol formation. Results here demonstrate that constructing active Cu-support interfaces may be an important approach to design effective catalyst for CO_(2)hydrogenation.

With the increase of communication frequency,terahertz(tHz)communication technology has been an important research feld;particularly the terahertz modulator is becoming one of the core devices in tHz communication *** modulation performance of a tHz communication system depends on the characterization of tHz *** modulators based on diferent principles and materials have been studied and ***,they are still on the way to practical application due to low modulation speed,narrow bandwidth,and insufcient modulation ***,we review the research progress of tHz modulator in recent years and evaluate devices critically and *** focus on the working principles such as electric,optical,optoelectrical,thermal,magnetic,programmable metamaterials and nonlinear modulation methods for tHz wave with semiconductors,metamaterials,and 2D materials(such as graphene,molybdenum disulfde,and tungsten disulfde).furthermore,we propose a guiding rule to select appropriate materials and modulation methods for specifc applications in tHz communication.

Strengthening an in-service reinforcement concrete bridge with prestressed CfRP bars

Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CfRP) bars were prestressed for the structural strengthening of 8 t-shaped rein-forced concrete (RC) beams of a 21-year-old bridge in China. the ultimate bearing capacity of the existing bridge after retrofit was discussed on the basis of concrete structures theory. the flexural strengths of RC beams strengthened with CfRP bars were controlled by the failure of concrete in compression and a prestressing method was applied in the retrofit. the field construction processes of strengthening with CfRP bars-including grouting cracks, cutting groove, grouting epoxy and embedding CfRP bars, surface treating, banding with the U-type CfRP sheets, releasing external prestressed steel tendons-were introduced in detail. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of this strengthening method, field tests using vehicles as live load were applied before and after the retrofit. the test results of deflection and concrete strain of the t-shaped beams with and without strengthening show that the capacity of the repaired bridge, including the bending strength and stiffness, is enhanced. the measurements of crack width also indicate that this strengthening method can enhance the durability of bridges. therefore, the proposed strengthening technology is feasible and effective.

＜正＞frost formed on outdoor unit’s coil surface of Air Source Heat Pumps（ASHPs） deteriorates its operational ***,the most widely used defrosting method for ASHPs is reversed-cycle defrosting..However,insufficient heat available during defrosting is a fundamental problem for traditional reversed-cycle defrosting,with which a number of operational problems during defrosting for AAHPs are *** the paper a novel thermal energy storage（tES） based reversed-cycle defrosting method for Air-to-air heat pump（AAHP） using phase change material（PCM） was *** an AAHP worked at high efficiency,excess energy was stored in the container filled with PCM,and when defrosting was necessary the energy stored previously was released through reversed-cycle of the heat *** schematics,operational modes of AAHP using the such defrosting method were introduced in detail,and the experiment were carried *** results indicated that the novel reverse defrosting method can help increase an AAHP’s energy efficiency and effectively eliminate a series of problems including a longer defrosting time,a reduced indoor thermal comfort for occupants and a poorer system reliability and etc that can’t be solved by traditional reversed-cycle defrosting method.

Laser shock processing (LSP) employs high-energy laser pulses from a solid-state laser to create intense shock waves into a material, which can induce compressive residual stresses in the target surface and improve its mechanical property efficiency. three different ablative, sacrificial coating were chosen to protect the 6061-t651 alloys from surface melting by laser pulse. this paper analyzes the effect of the paint and foil coatings on the shock wave propagation into the 6061-t651 alloys and the resulting change in mechanical properties. the depths of hardening by laser processing of 6061-t651 alloys up to 1 mm, and the surface hardness reach to 138HV. When the laser pulse energy density increase from 2.8 gW/cm2 to 3.6 gW/cm2, the surface hardness of the black paint, aluminum foil and silica acid black paint samples increase to 19%, 27%, 36% respectively.
