Synchronous improvement of mechanical properties and stress corrosion resistance by stress-aging coupled with natural aging pre-treatment in an Al-zn-Mg alloy with high recrystallization fraction

Enhancing the strength of Al-zn-Mg alloys is critical to the weight-lightening of structural components in the application of high-speed trains and aerospace industries,while high stress corrosion cracking(SCC)susceptibility of Al-zn-Mg alloys(especially the alloy with high recrystallization fraction)with high strength makes it *** this study,the influence of tensile stress-aging coupled with natural aging pre-treatment on the mechanical properties and SCC resistance of Al-zn-Mg alloy with high recrystallization fraction has been *** results show that tensile stress-aging at 160℃can inhibit the dissolution of clusters/Guinier-Preston(GP)zones formed during long-term natural aging pre-treatment,which increases the number density of matrix precipitates(MPts),narrow the width of precipitate free zone(PFz),and dramatically improve the mechanical properties of the experimental Al-zn-Mg ***,the precipitation of the high density of MPts within the matrix will assume a large number of solute atoms during artificial aging,which will reduce the supplement of solute atoms to grain *** a result,the volume of anodic active grain boundary precipitates(GBPs)and the content of free solute atoms at grain boundaries are reduced,which reduces the possibility of initial nucleation and propagation of SCC *** coupled treatment method proposed in this study proves efficient in resolving the contradiction between the strength and SCC resistance in Al-zn-Mg alloy.

Genome-wide analyses of miRNAs in mycorrhizal plants in response to late blight and elucidation of the role of miR319c in tomato resistance

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), an economically important vegetable crop cultivated worldwide, often suffers massive financial losses due to Phytophthora infestans (P. infestans) spread and breakouts. Arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) fungi mediated biocontrol has demonstrated great potential in plant resistance. However, little information is available on the regulation of mycorrhizal tomato resistance against P. infestans. Therefore, microRNAs (miRNAs) sequencing technology was used to analyse miRNA and their targets in the mycorrhizal tomato after P. infestans infection. Our study showed a lower severity of necrotic lesions in mycorrhizal tomato than in nonmycorrhizal controls. We investigated 35 miRNAs that showed the opposite expression tendency in mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal tomato after P. infestans infection when compared with uninfected P. infestans. Among them, miR319c was upregulated in mycorrhizal tomato leaves after pathogen infection. Overexpression of miR319c or silencing of its target gene (TCP1) increased tomato resistance to P. infestans, implying that miR319c acts as a positive regulator in tomato after pathogen infection. Additionally, we examined the induced expression patterns of miR319c and TCP1 in tomato plants exposed to salicylic acid (SA) treatment, and SA content and the expression levels of SA-related genes were also measured in overexpressing transgenic plants. The result revealed that miR319c can not only participates in tomato resistance to P. infestans by regulating SA content, but also indirectly regulates the expression levels of key genes in the SA pathway by regulating TCP1. In this study, we propose a novel mechanism in which the miR319c in mycorrhizal tomato increases resistance to P. infestans. © 2023 Chinese Society for Horticultural Science (CSHS) and Institute of Vegetables and Flowers (IVF), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).

Dosage effect genes modulate grain development in synthesized Triticum durum-Haynaldia villosa allohexaploid

Polyploidization in plants often leads to increased cell size and grain size, which may be affected by the increased genome dosage and transcription abundance. The synthesized Triticum durum (AABB)-Haynaldia villosa (VV) amphiploid (AABBVV) has significantly increased grain size, especially grain length, than the tetraploid and diploid parents. To investigate how polyploidization affects grain development at the transcriptional level, we perform transcriptome analysis using the immature seeds of T. durum, H. villosa, and the amphiploid. The dosage effect genes are contributed more by differentially expressed genes from genome V of H. villosa. The dosage effect genes overrepresent grain development-related genes. Interestingly, the vernalization gene TaVRN1 is among the positive dosage effect genes in the T. durum‒H. villosa and T. turgidum‒Ae. tauschii amphiploids. The expression levels of TaVRN1 homologs are positively correlated with the grain size and weight. The TaVRN1-B1 or TaVRN1-D1 mutation shows delayed florescence, decreased cell size, grain size, and grain yield. These data indicate that dosage effect genes could be one of the important explanations for increased grain size by regulating grain development. The identification and functional validation of dosage effect genes may facilitate the finding of valuable genes for improving wheat yield. © 2024 Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Genetics Society of China

Polydopamine wrapped polyaniline nanosheets: Synthesis and anticorrosion application for waterborne epoxy coatings

Two-dimensional materials have been proved to be effective in improving the performance of anticorrosive coatings. However, most of the reported two-dimensional materials only have the ability to passively block corrosive media and cannot effectively inhibit localized corrosion reactions at the metal/coating interface. Herein, we first synthesized a novel polyaniline (PANI) nanosheet with both barrier and passivation functions for metals. In addition, polydopamine (PDA) wrapped PANI nanosheets (PANI@PDA) were obtained by in situ self-polymerization reaction of dopamine on the PANI surface, which enhance its interfacial interaction with polymeric resin. The chemical structure, morphology and corrosion inhibition properties of the nanosheets were systematically analyzed. The incorporated PANI@PDA nanosheets in composite coating provide a longer penetration path for corrosive mediums. Secondly, the uniformly dispersed two-dimensional nanosheets induce the formation of passivation film on the metal substrate. The protective effect of PANI@PDA nanosheets on coatings was verified by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Results indicated that the prepared composite coating exhibited excellent corrosion resistance throughout the test cycle. In situ digital testing method for quality assessment of soft soil improvement with polyurethane

This study purposes an in situ testing method on quality assessment of soil *** drilling data includes the spatial distribution and in situ strength of untreated and treated soil along three different drillholes measured by on-site drilling monitoring *** factual drilling data can characterize the degree of soil improvement by penetration injection with permeable *** from on-site drilling monitoring shows that the linear zones represent constant drilling speeds shown in the plot of drill bit advancement *** drilling time,which indicates the spatial distributions of soil *** soil profile at the study site is composed of four layers,which includes fill,untreated silty clay,treated silty clay,and mucky *** results of soil profile are verified by the parallel site *** constant drilling speeds profile the coring-resistant strength of drilled *** comparing with the untreated silty clay,the constant drilling speeds of the treated silty clay have been decreased by 13.0-62.8%.Two drilling-speed-based indices of 61.2%and 65.6%are proposed to assess the decreased average drilling speed and the increased in situ strength of treated silty *** tests,*** compressive strength(UCS)test,have been performed with core sample to investigate and characterize in situ strength by comparing that with drilling *** show that the average predicted strengths of treated silty clay are 2.4-6.9 times higher than the average measured strength of untreated silty *** UCS-based indices of 374.5%and 344.2%verified the quality assessment(QA)results by this new in situ *** method provides a cost-effective tool for quality assessment of soil improvement by utilizing the digital drilling data.

Electrically Assisted Forming(EAF)technology has obvious advantages in material *** develop an effective constitutive model considering electrical effects,room temperature and electrically assisted quasi-static uniaxial tensile tests were conducted using ultrathin nickelbased superalloy plates with a thickness of 0.25 *** research focused on the two most widely recognized effects:the joule thermal and the electric athermal *** mechanism of current action can be divided into two scenarios:one considering the joule thermal effect only,and the other considering both effects *** basic constitutive models,namely the Modified-Hollomon model and the johnson-Cook(j-C)model,were selected to be optimized through the classification of two different situations,and four optimized constitutive models were *** was found that the j-C model with simultaneous consideration of the joule thermal effect and electric athermal effect had the best prediction effect by comparing the results of these four ***,the accuracy of the optimization model was verified by finite element simulation of the electrically assisted stretching optimization *** results show that the constitutive model can effectively predict the temperature effect caused by the joule heat effect and the athermal effect of current on the material.

Four Late-type Galaxies with Double Radio Lobes and Properties of Such Galaxies

The triggering mechanism for radio lobes from late-type galaxies is not fully *** samples are desired for a thorough investigation and *** utilizing the optical data from the newly released Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument imaging surveys and the radio sources from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey and the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-centimeter,we identify four Late-type Galaxies with double Radio Lobes(La GRLs):j0217-3645,j0947+6220,j1412+3723 and j1736+*** previously known La GRLs,we confirm the correlation between radio power P_(1.4GHz)and stellar mass M_(*)of host ***(25/35)La GRLs belong to the blue cloud galaxies,while the newly identified cases in this work are located within the region of the red *** find a clear correlation between the differential radio power,i.e.,the offset from the P_(1.4GHz)-M_(*)relation,and the galaxy color,indicating that bluer galaxies at a fixed M_(*)tend to host more powerful radio ***,the majority(31/36)of La GRLs are either located in a galaxy group or displaying a disturbed *** suggest that all of the galaxy mass,color and surrounding environment could play important roles in triggering radio lobes in late-type galaxies.

Topological and superconducting properties of monolayered CoN and CoP:A first-principles comparative study

Two-dimensional systems that simultaneously harbor superconductivity and nontrivial band topology may serve as appealing platforms for realizing topological superconductivity with promising applications in fault-tolerant quantum ***,based on first-principles calculations,we show that monolayered Co N and Co P with the isovalent Fe Se-like structure are stable in freestanding form,even though their known bulk phases have no resemblance to *** two systems are further revealed to display intrinsic band inversions due to crystal field splitting,and such orderings are preserved with the inclusion of spin-orbit coupling(SOC),which otherwise is able to open a curved band gap,yielding a non-zero z2 topological invariant in each *** a mechanism of topologicalization is distinctly contrasted with that identified recently for the closely related monolayers of CoX(X=As,Sb,Bi),where the SOC plays an indispensable role in causing a nontrivial band ***,we demonstrate that,by applying equi-biaxial tensile strain,the electron-phonon coupling strength in monolayered CoN can be significantly enhanced,yielding a superconducting transition temperature(Tc)up to 7-12 K for the Coulomb pseudopotential ofμ*=0.2-0.1,while the CoP monolayer shows very low Tc even under pronounced *** different superconducting behaviors can be attributed to different variations in lattice softening and electronic density of states around the Fermi level upon *** central findings enrich the understanding of different mechanisms of band inversions and topologicalization and offer platforms for achieving the coexistence of superconductivity and nontrivial band topology based on two-dimensional systems.
