Adaptive sampling strategy for characterizing spatial distribution of soil liquefaction potential using cone penetration test

Characterizing spatial distribution of soil liquefaction potential is critical for assessing liquefactionrelated hazards(*** damages caused by liquefaction-induced differential settlement).However,in engineering practice,soil liquefaction potential is usually measured at limited locations in a specific site using in situ tests,*** penetration tests(CPTs),due to the restrictions of time,cost and access to subsurface *** these cases,liquefaction potential of soil at untested locations requires to be interpreted from limited measured data points using proper interpolation method,leading to remarkable statistical uncertainty in liquefaction *** underlines an important question of how to optimize the locations of CPT soundings and determine the minimum number of CPTs for achieving a target reliability level of liquefaction *** tackle this issue,this study proposes a smart sampling strategy for determining the minimum number of CPTs and their optimal locations in a selfadaptive and data-driven *** proposed sampling strategy leverages on information entropy and Bayesian compressive sampling(BCS).Both simulated and real CPT data are used to demonstrate the proposed *** examples indicate that the proposed method can adaptively and sequentially select the required number and optimal locations of CPTs.

The practical applications of magnesium(Mg)alloys are usually beset by their relatively low strength and limited *** we attempt to fabricate hexagonal BN nanoplatelet(BNNP)reinforced ZK61 magnesium composites using a combination of spark plasma sintering and friction stir *** resulting composites exhibit microstructural characteristics of homogeneous dispersion of BNNP in Mg matrix with refined equiaxed grains and(0002)basal texture roughly surrounding the pin column *** electron microscopy observation illustrates that trace amounts of Mg_(3)N_(2)and MgB_(2)form at BNNP-Mg interface,in which Mg_(3)N_(2)locates at the basal plane of a BNNP and MgB_(2)grows at its open *** spatial distribution of Mg_(3)N_(2)and MgB_(2)facilitates interfacial wetting and stronger BNNP-Mg interface in such a way that interfacial products act as anchors bonding between *** comparison with monolithic ZK61 alloy,the BNNP/ZK61 composites display simultaneous improvements in yield strength,hardness and ductility,achieving good strength-ductility *** research is expected to shed some light on BNNP potentials for designing and producing magnesium composites with high strength and good ductility.

Differential privacy(DP) has become one of the most important solutions for privacy protection in recent years. Previous studies have shown that prediction accuracy usually increases as more data mining(DM)logic is considered in the DP implementation. However, although one-step DM computation for decision tree(DT) model has been investigated, existing research has not studied the scenarios when the DP is embedded in two-step DM computation, three-step DM computation until the whole model DM computation. It is very challenging to embed DP in more than two steps of DM computation since the solution space exponentially increases with the increase of computational complexity. In this work, we propose algorithms by making use of Markov Chain Monte Carlo(MCMC) method, which can efficiently search a computationally infeasible space to embed DP into DT generation algorithm. We compare the performance when embedding DP in DT with different depths, i.e., one-step DM computation(previous work), two-step, three-step and the whole model. We find that the deep combination of DP and DT does help to increase the prediction accuracy. However, when the privacy budget is very large(e.g., ? = 10), this may overwhelm the complexity of DT model, and the increasing trend is not obvious. We also find that the prediction accuracy decreases with the increase of model complexity.

NUMERICAL STUDY ON THE PURIFICATION PERFORMANCE OF RIVERBANK

During the rain time, the runoff infiltrates into the riverbank through the collecting gutter and slope surface. The city runoff is generally polluted by organic, oil, heavy metal particulates, etc. The pollutants moving with the water through the riverbank experience advection, dispersion, diffusion, adsorption, biochemical reaction and plant uptaking processes. In this article, a mathematical model was developed to simulate the performance of pollutant removal of the riverbank. The model took those main mechanisms into account. The modified Richards equation was used in simulating flow field. The mass balance law was employed in deriving the equation for pollutant transport, where the diffusion and dispersion were described with the Fick-type law, the adsorption was macroscopically expressed as form isotherm, and the bio-chemical degradation process was assumed to follow the Monod kinetics. The NH3-N and TP were considered in the present model. The mathematical model was descritized with a finite element numerical model, which was applied to two types of model riverbanks. In the model test, the hydraulic loading was assumed to have the intermittent pattern simulating the storm runoff of certain return period, and the values of the rainfall runoff and concentrations of the NH3-N and TP were taken from the model test. The computed overall removal rates for the NH3-N and TP in 6 cases are in the range of 88%-98%, 87%-97%, respectively. The differences between the computed and tested overall removal rates for the NH3-N and TP are less than 5%. The time-varying oscillation pattern of the concentrations of the NH3-N and TP were rationally simulated, which shows that the model presented in this article can be used to assess the purification performance of the riverbank constructed with sand or soil.

Graphene fibers are a kind of novel carbon fibers assembled by orderly aligned graphene sheets with high flexibility, good conductivity, high thermal conductivity, and low density, which make them possible to be widely used in high-performance and multifunctional compound materials as well as flexible electronic devices. In this review, we summarize the research progress in the synthesis of graphene fibers, and their applications in sensor, energy storage, and energy conversion. Furthermore, the current issues and some prospects for the future trend of graphene fibers are discussed.

In general,self-healing dielectric composites are mainly composed of polar hydrogen bonds,which have high hydrophilicity and are unsuitable for humid *** composite with Diels-Alder(D-A)bond contains covalent bonds,it can be adopted as an efficient self-healing ***,we construct self-healing barium titanate(BT)/polyurethane(PU)dielectric composites by adopting PU with D-A bond as matrix(BT/PU-DA).The prepared 10%BT/PU-DA composite exhibits superior self-healing ability than that of ***,its dielectric constant can reach 9.3 with a loss of only 0.04 at 1000 Hz and maintain 93%repair efficiency of tensile *** experimental analysis suggests the introduction of D-A bond can enhance the thermostability and self-healing ability of BT/PU-DA *** addition,the incorporation of BT nanoparticles and D-A bond in the self-healing composite contributes to the lower dielectric loss and excellent tensile strength after *** adopted strategy is a promising and facile approach to develop highly efficient selfhealing dielectric material,which will be conducive to reuse and sustainable development of the electronic packaging material in aqueous medium or wet environment.
