Salter's duck,an asymmetrical wave energy converter(WEC)device,showed high efficiency in extracting energy from 2D regular waves in the past;yet,challenges remain for fluctuating wave *** can potentially be addressed by adopting a negative stiffness mechanism(NSM)in WEC devices to enhance system efficiency,even in highly nonlinear and steep 3D waves.A weakly nonlinear model was developed which incorporated a nonlinear restoring moment and NSM into the linear formulations and was applied to an asymmetric WEC using a time domain potential flow *** model was initially validated by comparing it with published experimental and numerical computational fluid dynamics *** current results were in good agreement with the published *** was found that the energy extraction increased in the range of 6%to 17%during the evaluation of the effectiveness of the NSM in regular *** irregular wave conditions,specifically at the design wave conditions for the selected test site,the energy extraction increased by 2.4%,with annual energy production increments of approximately *** findings highlight the potential of NSM in enhancing the performance of asymmetric WEC devices,indicating more efficient energy extraction under various wave conditions.

The phase transition process of a photocatalytic system from NaBiO_(3)·2H_(2)O to BiO_(2−x) has been investigated to understand the important factors that affect photocatalytic performance in a composite system. It is found that a proper amount of BiO2−x on the surface of NaBiO_(3)·2H_(2)O could effectively suppress the electron/hole recombination and increase the exposed reactive sites for photocatalytic reaction. A fully covered BiO2−x on NaBiO3·2H2O results in a dramatical decrease of photocatalytic degradation of dye. An over long hydrothermal process can result in BiO_(2−x) with reduced oxygen vacancies, which degrades the photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the photocatalytic reduction ability of CO_(2) conversion has been investigated, indicating that the surface activity to different reactants also directly affects the catalytic performance. The investigation of the gradient phase transition process presents a clear guidance to construct a desired photocatalytic system, in addition to selecting gradient materials with suitable bandgap structure and a morphology with different fraction and distribution of each component. The defect evolution of each component during construction of a composite is also an important factor that should be optimized and considered in making a composite to achieve high photocatalytic efficiency.

In the modern pharmaceutical industry,monoclonal antibodies are often used as therapeutic ***,they are restricted to cell surface antigens due to their inability to penetrate the outer cell membrane and maintain normal function in the reducing ***,it can lead to cytotoxicity since it attacks cancerous cells by mimicking the human immune *** an alternative,this study modifies the hyperstable single-chain fragment variable(scFv)antibody to eliminate cancer using its linear *** scFv(F8)antibody model was modified to recognize human Ras protein by altering residues in the antigen-binding ***,a cell-penetrating peptide(CPP)was attached to the scFv(Ras)antibody model to allow entrance to the cell,creating CPP-scFv(Ras).Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE),western blotting,and the binding assay were performed to prove its *** a result,CPP-scFv(Ras)was successfully engineered and bound to the antigen,HRas(G12V).

Coronary artery systems are a kind of complex biological systems. Their chaotic phenomena can lead to serious health problems and illness development. From the perspective of engineering, this paper investigates the chaos suppression problem. At first, nonlinear dynamics of coronary artery systems are presented. To suppress the chaotic phenomena, the method of derivative-integral terminal sliding mode control is adopted. Since coronary artery systems suffer from uncertainties, the technique of disturbance observer is taken into consideration. The stability of such a control system that integrates the derivative-integral terminal sliding mode controller and the disturbance observer is proven in the sense of Lyapunov. To verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy, simulation results are illustrated in comparison with a benchmark.

Several researches have been reported about the characteristic of β-Ga_2O_3 nanowires which was synthesized on nickel oxide *** indeed,recent researches about synthesis of β-Ga_2O_3 nanowires on oxide-assisted transition metal are limited to nickel or cobalt oxide *** this work,Gallium oxide(β-Ga_2O_3)nanowires were synthesized by a simple thermal evaporation method from gallium powder in the range of 700-1000℃ using the iron,nickel,copper,cobalt and zinc oxide as a catalyst,*** β-Ga_2O_3 nanowires with single crystalline without defects were successfully synthesized at the reaction temperature of 850,900 and 950℃ in all the *** optimum experimental condition in synthesis of nanowires varied with the kind of *** increasing synthesis temperature,the morphology of gallium oxide nanowires changed from nanowires to nanorods,and its diameter *** these results,we could be proposed that the growth mechanism of β-Ga_2O_3 nanowires was changed with synthesis temperature of *** and morphology of Synthesized nanowire was characterized by HR-TEM,FE-SEM,EDX and XRD.

Predictors and prognostic impact of post-operative atrial fibrillation in patients with hip fracture surgery

BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation(AF)is the most common arrhythmia developing in postoperative *** data are available regarding pre-operative risk factors and prognostic impact of post-operative AF(POAF)following hip fracture surgery(HFS)in Korean *** We aimed to investigate the incidence,predictors,and hospital prognosis of POAF in HFS *** This study included 245 patients without history of AF who underwent HFS between August 2014 and November *** was defined as new-onset AF that occurred during hospitalization after *** Twenty patients(8.2%)experienced POAF after *** developed on median post-operative day 2(interquartile range,1–3).Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that age[odds ratio(OR),1.111;95%confidence interval(CI),1.022–1.209],chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)(OR,6.352;95%CI,1.561–25.841)and E/e’ratio(OR,1.174;95%CI,1.002–1.376)were significant predictors of *** with POAF had a significantly higher intensive care unit admission rate(55.0%vs 14.7%,P<0.001)and incidence of congestive heart failure(45.0%vs 10.7%,P<0.001).In multivariable logistic regression analysis,POAF was significantly associated with increased incidence of congestive heart failure(OR,4.856;95%CI,1.437–16.411)and intensive care unit admission(OR,6.615;95%CI,2.112–20.718).CONCLUSION POAF was frequently developed in elderly patients following ***,COPD and elevated E/e’ratio were found as significant predictors of POAF in HFS *** with POAF significantly experienced intensive care unit admission and incident congestive heart failure during hospitalization.

BACKGROUND Radiation therapy(RT)for nasopharyngeal cancer can cause several *** rare cases,an internal carotid artery pseudoaneurysm can occur,which can be *** report the experience of a nasopharyngeal cancer patient who underwent radiation therapy and subsequently developed a fatal pseudoaneurysm of the petrous internal carotid *** SUMMARY A 39-year-old man was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer 2 years ago(American Joint Committee on Cancer Stage T3N2M0)and received concurrent chemoradiation *** subsequently relapsed and received *** week after the 4th cycle of chemotherapy,he was admitted to the emergency room of our hospital because of massive epistaxis accompanied by a headache.A pseudoaneurysm of the petrous internal carotid artery was confirmed by digital subtraction angiography(DSA).Stent-assisted endovascular coil embolization was performed and complete occlusion was *** pseudoaneurysm was observed on DSA after coil embolization;however,intermittent epistaxis was maintained even after coil *** seven days,a diagnostic laryngoscopy was *** bleeding occurred after aspiration of the blood clot during the laryngoscopy and the patient died of hypovolemic *** this case,epistaxis may have been a sign of pseudoaneurysm;therefore,treatment such as embolization should be performed promptly,and careful management should be undertaken after *** This case highlights a rare,serious complication of RT in nasopharyngeal cancer and how it should be recognized and treated.
