We herein report a case of bronchial bleeding afterradical esophagectomy that was treated with lobectomy.A 65-year-old male who underwent subtotal esophagectomy with three-field lymph node dissection for esophageal carcinoma was referred to our hospital because of sudden *** the esophagectomy,bilateral vocal cord paralysis was observed,and the patient suffered from repeated episodes of aspiration *** revealed hemosputum in the right middle lobe bronchus,and contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed tortuous arteries arising from the right inferior phrenic artery and left subclavian artery toward the right middle lobe *** bronchial arterial embolization was performed twice to control the recurrent hemoptysis,the procedures were *** middle lobectomy was therefore performed via video-assisted thoracic *** bronchial arterys with medial hypertrophy and overgrowth of the small branches were noted near the bronchus in the resected *** patient recovered uneventfully and was discharged on postoperative day 14.

Effects of Pressure during Preform Densification on SiC/SiC Composites

The nano-infiltration and transient eutectic-phase (NITE) method is one of the most attractive methods for fabrication of SiC and SiC/SiC composites. In the NITE method, preform densification is essential option for damage less near-net shaping technique. However, optimization of preform densification is insufficient yet. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of pressure during preform densification on SiC/SiC composites. The preform before preform densification has many pores in the inter-prepreg sheets. These pores were disappeared by preform densification. As the effects of pressure on preform, densification in the intra-fiber-bundle was improved due to increasing pressure. Flexural strength of the preforms with 1 MPa and 17 MPa indicated almost same value. The result suggested that increasing of pressure did not cause any change in fiber properties. In the effects of pressure on the composites, the composites with 17 MPa was exhibited improvement in bulk density and mechanical property, compared with that with 1 MPa.

Fabrication of Perovskite-Type Photovoltaic Devices with Polysilane Hole Transport Layers

Perovskite-type photovoltaic devices with polysilane hole transport layers were fabricated by a spin-coating method. In the present work, poly(methyl phenylsilane) (PMPS) and decaphenylcyclopentasilane (DPPS) were used as the hole transport layers. First, structural and optical properties of the PMPS and DPPS films were investigated, and the as-prepared PMPS and DPPS films were amorphous. Optical absorption spectra of the amorphous PMPS and DPPS showed some marked features due to the nature of polysilanes. Then, microstructures, optical and photovoltaic properties of the perovskite-type photovoltaic devices with polysilane hole transport layers were investigated. Current density-voltage characteristics and incident photon to current conversion efficiency of the photovoltaic devices with the polysilane layers showed different photovoltaic performance each other, attributed to molecular structures of the polysilanes and Si content in the present hole transport layers.

A Modified Eigenvector Method for Blind Deconvolution of MIMO Systems Using the Matrix Pseudo-Inversion Lemma

Recently we have developed an eigenvector method (EVM) which can achieve the blind deconvolution (BD) for MIMO systems. One of attractive features of the proposed algorithm is that the BD can be achieved by calculating the eigenvectors of a matrix relevant to it. However, the performance accuracy of the EVM depends highly on computational results of the eigenvectors. In this paper, by modifying the EVM, we propose an algorithm which can achieve the BD without calculating the eigenvectors. Then the pseudo-inverse which is needed to carry out the BD is calculated by our proposed matrix pseudo-inversion lemma. Moreover, using a combination of the conventional EVM and the modified EVM, we will show its performances comparing with each EVM. Simulation results will be presented for showing the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Detectability of Renal Arteries in Living Renal Donors Using Multi-Detector CT: Comparison among Axial and Three-Dimensional Reconstruction Images

Purpose: The purpose was to compare the effectiveness of MDCT reconstruction methods that improve detectability for detecting the renal arteries in patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy irrespective of the ability of the radiologist. Methods: 128 patients with left nephrectomy and either one or multiple renal arteries were enrolled. Radiologists with varying levels of expertise (5 board-certified and 3 non-certified) interpreted all MDCT images, including axial, VR and MIP images, independently and determined the numbers of renal arteries. The interpretation times, sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy rates were analyzed. A receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to compare the results from the various reconstruction methods. Results: At surgery, there were 156 arteries: 101 donors had one renal artery and 27 had multiple arteries. The interpretation time for board-certified radiologists was shorter than that for non-certified radiologists, and the interpretation time using MIP images was significantly shorter than that of using the other reconstruction methods. The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy on axial images were significantly higher than those on other images. The average Az value for detection of the numbers of renal arteries using axial images was higher than that of using other images. Conclusion: MDCT is helpful in reviewing the numbers of donated renal arteries for radiologists with different levels of expertise, and different types of reconstructions.

AIM： To investigate the frequency and distribution of /V-acetyltransferase 2 （NAT2） and uridine 5＇-diphosphate （UDP）-glucuronosyltransferase 1A7 （UGT1A7） genes in patients with ulcerative colitis （UC） and Crohn＇s disease （CD）. METHODS： Frequencies and distributions of IVAT2 and UGT1A7SNPs as well as their haplotypes were investigated in 95 patients with UC, 60 patients with CD, and 200 gender-matched, unrelated, healthy, control volunteers by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism （RFLP）, PCR-denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography （DHPLC）, and direct DNA sequencing. RESULTS： Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the frequency of haplotype, NAT2＊7B, significantly increased in CD patients, compared to that in controls （P= 0.0130, OR = 2.802, 95%CI = 1.243-6.316）. However, there was no association between NAT2 haplotypes and UC, or between any UGT1A7haplotypes and inflammatory bowel disease （IBD）. CONCLUSION： It is likely that the NAT2 gene is one ofthe determinants for CD in Japanese. Alternatively, a new CD determinant may exist in the 8p22 region, where NAT2 is located.

AIM To determine short-and long-term outcomes of endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) using the stag beetle(SB) knife, a scissor-shaped *** Seventy consecutive patients with 96 early esophageal neoplasms, who underwent ESD using a SB knife at Kure Medical Center and Chugoku Cancer Center, Japan, between April 2010 and August 2016, were retrospectively evaluated. Clinicopathological characteristics of lesions and procedural adverse events were assessed. Therapeutic success was evaluated on the basis of en bloc, histologically complete, and curative or non-curative resection rates. Overall and tumor-specific survival, local or distant recurrence, and 3-and 5-year cumulative overall metachronous cancer rates were also *** Eligible patients had dysplasia/intraepithelial neoplasia(22%) or early cancers(squamous cell carcinoma, 78%). The median procedural time was 60 min and on average, the lesions measured 24 mm in diameter, yielding 33-mm tissue defects. The en bloc resection rate was 100%, with 95% and 81% of dissections deemed histologically complete and curative, respectively. All procedures were completed without accidental incisions/perforations or delayed bleeding. During follow-up(mean, 35 ± 23 mo), no local recurrences or metastases were observed. The 3-and 5-year survival rates were 83% and 70%, respectively, with corresponding rates of 85% and 75% for curative resections and 74% and 49% for noncurative resections. The 3-and 5-year cumulative rates of metachronous cancer in the patients with curative resections were 14% and 26%, *** ESD procedures using the SB knife are feasible, safe, and effective for treating early esophageal neoplasms, yielding favorable short-and long-term outcomes.

Rhodobacter sphaeroides RV (RV) produces high yields of hydrogen from organic acids in the presence of light. The hydrogen production from acetate is lower than that from lactate, probably because of its low ability to metabolize acetate. In this study, gene of acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ACDH, EC 1.***.1.10) that catalyzes the reversible conversion of acetaldehyde and CoA to acetyl-CoA with the concurrent reduction of NAD to NADH, is overexpressed in the RV strain. The produced acetyl-CoA can be oxidized to carbon dioxide in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, wherein electrons are generated and used for hydrogen production. The byproduct NADH can be used as reducing agent for acetate to produce acetaldehyde by acetate dehydrogenase. The recombinant RV strain (RVAC) expressing the ACDH gene showed ACDH activity with a specific activity of 3.2 mU/ mg, and the RV and the recombinant RV strain that harbored the intact (empty) plasmid pLP-1.2 (RVI) showed no detectable ACDH activity. The hydrogen yields of the RVAC strain from 21-mM acetate were 1.5-fold higher than that of the wild type RV strain and also that of the RVI strain. In contrast, hydrogen yield from 21-mM lactate was 30% lower than that in the control strains.
