Carbon and nitrogen species-involved TiO2 （CN-TiO2） were systematically synthesized by thermal condensa- tion of cyanuric acid on the TiO2 surface. And the photocatalytic reactions for H2 production from sacrificial aque- ous solutions were performed on several CN-TiO2 photocatalyst under visible-light irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of the CN-TiO2 was influenced by total amounts of carbon and nitrogen species, and the preferable activity was ten times higher than that of pristine carbon nitride. Here, the states of the CN-TiO2 photocatalyst were charac- terized by XPS, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy as well as DFT calculations. The photo-electrochemical measure- ments confirmed that the enhancement of H2 production is associated with effective charge separation under photo- excitation of highly dispersed carbon nitride on the TiO2 surface.

Volatiles in the mantle are crucial for Earth’s geodynamic and geochemical *** the deep recycling of volatiles is key for grasping mantle chemical heterogeneity,plate tectonics,and long-term planetary *** subduction transfers abundant volatile elements from the Earth’s surface into the mantle,the fate of hydrous portions within subducted slabs during intensive dehydration processes remains *** isotopes,only efficiently fractionating near the Earth’s surface,are valuable for tracing volatile recycling *** this study,we document a notably large variation inδ^(11)B values(−14.3‰to+8.2‰)in Cenozoic basalts from the South China *** basalts,associated with a high-velocity zone beneath East China,are suggested to originate from the mantle transition *** the majority exhibitδ^(11)B values(−10‰to−5‰)resembling the normal mantle,their enriched Sr-Nd-Pb isotope compositions and fluid-mobile elements imply hydrous components in their source,including altered oceanic crust and *** normalδ^(11)B values are attributed to the dehydration *** highδ^(11)B values in the basalts indicate the presence of subducted serpentinites in their mantle source.A small subset of samples with lowδ^(11)B values and radiogenic isotope enrichments suggests a contribution from recycled detrital sediments,though retaining minimal volatile elements after extensive *** findings provide compelling evidence that serpentinites within subducted slabs predominantly maintain their hydrous nature during dehydration processes in subduction *** may transport a considerable amount of water into deep mantle reservoirs,such as the mantle transition zone.

In order to apply lithium hydroxide(LiOH)as a low temperature chemical heat storage material,the carbonation reaction of LiOH and the prevention method are focused in this *** carbonation of raw LiOH at storage and hydration condition is experimentally *** results show that the carbonation reaction of LiOH with carbon dioxide(CO_(2))is confirmed during the hydration *** carbonation of LiOH can be easily carried out with CO_(2) at room temperature and *** can be carbonated at a humidity range of 10%to 20%,a normal humidity region that air can easily be ***,the carbonation reaction rate has not nearly affected by the increase of reaction *** improved storage method by storing LiOH at a low humidity less than 1.0%can be effectively prevented the carbonation of *** hydration reaction ratio of LiOH at the improved storage method shows a better result compared to the ordinary storage ***,the humidity should be carefully controlled during the storage of LiOH before hydration and dehydration reaction when apply LiOH as a low heat chemical storage material.

AIM： To estimate whether S-TI571 inhibits the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in the gastrointestinal stromal tumor （GIST） cells. METHODS： We used GIST cell line, GIST-T1. It has a heterogenic 57-bp deletion in exon 11 to produce a mutated c-KIT, which results in constitutive activation of c-KIT. Cells were treated with/without STI571 or stem cell factor （SCF）. Transcription and expression of VEGF were determined by RT-PCR and flow cytometry or Western blotting, respectively. Activated c-KIT was estimated by immunoprecipitation analysis. Cell viability was determined by PITT assay. RESULTS： Activation of c-KIT was inhibited by STI571 treatment. VEGF was suppressed at both the transcriptional and translational levels in a temporal and dose-dependent manner by STI571. SCF upregulated the expression of VEGF and it was inhibited by S-13571. STI571 also reduced the cell viability of the GIST-T1 cells, as determined by PTT assay. CONCLUSION： Activation of c-KIT in the GIST-T1 regulated the expression of VEGF and it was inhibited by ST571. STI571 has antitumor effects on the GIST cells with respect to not only the inhibition of cell growth, but also the suppression of VEGF expression.

AIM: To study the clinical features and computed tomography(CT) findings of appendiceal diverticulitis vs acute ***: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 451 patients who had undergone appendectomy inour in stitution from January 2007 to September 2012. Patient demographics, clinical features, pathological findings, and surgical outcomes were analyzed. We also compared preoperative CT images of 25 patients with appendiceal diverticulitis with those of 25 patients with acute ***: Among 451 patients, 44(9.7%) were diagnosed to have appendiceal diverticulitis and 398(86.9%) to have acute appendicitis. Patients with appendiceal diverticulitis were older(59 vs 37 years, P < 0.001) and had a longer duration of the illness(4.0 d vs 1.0 d, P < 0.001). Perforation rates in patients with appendiceal diverticulitis were higher(68% vs 27%, P < 0.001). The appendix could be visualized in only 13 patients(52%) among the appendiceal diverticulitis cases, but in all acute appendicitis cases. CT findings suggestive of appendiceal diverticulitis included the absence of fluid collection in the appendix(84% vs 12%, P < 0.001), absence of appendicolith(92% vs 52%, P = 0.005), and formation of abscess(68% vs 16%, P < 0.001). Appendiceal diverticula were identified in 6 patients(24%).CONCLUSION: Among patients who had undergone appendectomy, 9.7% had appendiceal diverticulitis. Patients with appendiceal diverticulitis had different clinical features and CT findings from patients with acute appendicitis.

AIM To determine whether oral glutathione(GSH)administration can alleviate the effects of fasting-induced intestinal atrophy in the small intestinal mucosa. METHODS Rats were divided into eight *** group was fed ad libitum,another was fed ad libitum and received oral GSH,and six groups were administrated saline(SA)or GSH orally during *** height,apoptosis,and cell proliferation in the jejunum were histologically evaluated.i NOS protein expression(by immunohistochemistry),nitrite levels(by high performance liquid chromatography,as a measure of NO production),8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine formation(by ELISA,indicating ROS levels),glutathione/oxidized glutathione(GSH/GSSG)ratio(by enzymatic colorimetric detection),andγ-glutamyl transpeptidase(Ggt1)mR NA levels in the jejunum(by semi-quantitative RT-PCR)were also estimated. AIM: To investigate the effects of hydrogen(H2) on Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase(SOD1) activation in a rat model of corneal alkali burn. METHODS: In each rat, one cornea was subjected to alkali exposure. Physiological saline(saline group) or H2-dissolved saline(H2 group) was instilled continuously on the cornea for 5 min before and after alkali exposure. Inflammatory cells, neovascularization, and cytoplasmic SOD1 levels were evaluated immunohistochemically in enucleated eyes from both groups. Three-dimensional ultrastructural tissue changes in the eyes were analyzed using low-vacuum scanning electron ***: The numbers of both inflammatory and vascular endothelial cells were significantly reduced in the corneas of the H2 group(P<0.01). Furthermore, H2 treatment increased both cytoplasmic SOD1 levels(P<0.01) and activity in corneal epithelial cells(P<0.01). Notably, the SOD1 activity level in the H2 group was approximately 2.5-fold greater than that in the saline ***: H2 treatment suppresses inflammation and neovascularization in the injured cornea and indirectly suppresses oxidative insult to the cornea by upregulating the SOD1 enzyme protein level and activity.

Gastric submucosal tumors(SMTs) less than 2 cm are generally considered benign neoplasms, and endoscopic observation is recommended, but SMTs over 2 cm, 40% of which are gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs), have malignant potential. Although the Japanese Guidelines for GIST recommend partial surgical resection for GIST over 2 cm with malignant potential as well as en bloc large tissue sample to obtain appropriate and large specimens of SMTs, several reports have been published on tissue sampling of SMTs, such as with endoscopic ultrasound sound fine needle aspiration, submucosal tunneling bloc biopsy, and the combination of bite biopsy and endoscopic mucosal resection. Because a simpler, more accurate method is needed for appropriate treatment, we developed oval mucosal opening bloc biopsy after incision and widening by ring thread traction for submucosal tumor(OMOB) approach. OMOB was simple and enabled us to obtain large samples under direct procedure view as well as allowed us to restore to original mucosa.
