Electroacupuncture improves myocardial fibrosis in heart failure rats by attenuating ECM collagen deposition through modulation of TGF-β1/Smads signaling pathway

Background: To explore the effects of electroacupuncture on cardiac function and myocardial fibrosis in rat models of heart failure, and to elucidate the underlying mechanism of electroacupuncture in heart failure treatment. Methods: Healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats were allocated into three groups: Sham group, Model group, and electroacupuncture (Model + EA) group, with each group comprising 8 rats. The model underwent a procedure involving the ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery to induce a model of heart failure. The Model + EA group was used for 7 consecutive days for electroacupuncture of bilateral Shenmen (HT7) and Tongli (HT5), once a day for 30 min each time. Left ventricular parameters in rats were assessed using a small-animal ultrasound machine to analyze changes in left ventricular end-diastolic volume, left ventricular end-systolic volume, left ventricular ejection fraction, and left ventricular fractional shortening. Serum interleukin-1β (IL-1β), cardiac troponin (cTn), and N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide precursor levels were measured using ELISA. Histopathological changes in rat myocardium were observed through HE staining, while collagen deposition in rat myocardial tissue was assessed using the Masson staining method. Picro sirius red staining, immunohistochemical staining, and RT-qPCR were utilized to distinguish between the various types of collagen deposition. The expression level of TGF-β1 and SMAD2/3/4/7 mRNA in rat myocardial tissues was determined using RT-qPCR. Additionally, western blot analysis was conducted to assess the protein expression levels of TGF-β1, SMAD3/7, and p-SMAD3 in rat myocardial tissues. Results: Compared with the Sham group, the left ventricular ejection fraction and left ventricular fractional shortening values of the Model group were significantly decreased (P < 0.01);the left ventricular end-diastolic volume and left ventricular end-systolic volume values were remarkably increased (P < 0.01)

Heterointerface engineering of rhombic Rh nanosheets confined on MXene for efficient methanol oxidation

Although metallic rhodium(Rh)is regarded as a promising platinum-alternative anode catalyst of direct methanol fuel cell(DMFC),the conventional"particle-to-face"contact model between Rh and matrix largely limits the overall electrocatalytic performance due to their insufficient cooperative ***,we report a controllable and robust heterointerface engineering strategy for the bottom-up fabrication of rhombic Rh nanosheets in situ confined on Ti_3C_(2)T_x MXene nanolamellas(Rh NS/MXene)via a convenient stereoassembly *** unique design concept gives the resulting 2D/2D Rh NS/MXene heterostructure intriguing textural features,including large accessible surface areas,strong"face-toface"interfacial interactions,homogeneous Rh nanosheet distribution,ameliorative electronic structure,and high electronic *** a consequence,the as-prepared Rh NS/MXene nanoarchitectures exhibit exceptional electrocatalytic methanol oxidation properties in terms of a large electrochemically active surface area of 126.2 m~2 g_(Rh)~(-1),a high mass activity of 1056.9 mA mg_(Rh)-~1,and a long service life,which significantly outperform those of conventional particle-shaped Rh catalysts supported by carbon black,carbon nanotubes,reduced graphene oxide,and MXene matrixes as well as the commercial Pt nanoparticle/carbon black and Pd nanoparticle/carbon black catalysts with the same noble metal loading *** functional theory calculations further demonstrate that the direct electronic interaction at the well-contacted 2D/2D heterointerfaces effectively enhances the adsorption energy of Rh nanosheets and induces a left shift of the d-band center,thereby making the Rh NS/MXene configuration suffer less from CO *** work highlights the importance of rational heterointerface design in the construction of advanced noble metal/MXene electrocatalysts,which may provide new avenues for developing the next-generation DMFC devices.

Enhancing zinc-air battery performance by constructing threedimensional N-doped carbon coating multiple valence Co and MnO heterostructures

Developing highly-efficient bifunctional oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)electrocatalysts is crucial for the widespread application of rechargeable Zn-air batteries(ZABs).Herein,an efficiency electrodeposition and pyrolytic strategy to synthesize the three-dimensional(3D)N-doped carbon coating multiple valence Co and MnO heterostructures supported on carbon cloth substrate(Co-MnO@NC/CC).It contains Co-Co,Co-N,and Co-O bonds,which synergistically enhance the oxygen reaction activity with *** exhibits a working potential of 1.473 V at 10 mA·cm^(−2)for OER and onset potential of 0.97 V for *** calculations demonstrate that the synergy between cobalt and manganese species could optimize the d-band center and reduce the energy barrier of Co-MnO@NC/CC for both OER and ORR ***,the MnO acts as the main OER active site could significantly optimize the energy barrier of O*→OOH*,thus further promoting the OER *** can be directly used as the air-cathode for both liquid-state and solid-state ZABs,which could afford a small voltage gap of 0.75 V at 10 mA·cm^(−2),a high power density of 172.5 mW·cm^(−2)and a long-term durability for 400 h,surpassing those of the Pt/C+RuO_(2)-based ***,the assembled batteries show potential applications in portable devices.

Simultaneous fluorescence and Compton scattering computed tomography based on linear polarization X-ray

PurposeTo propose a method for simultaneous fluorescence and Compton scattering computed tomography by using linearly polarized *** Carlo simulations were adopted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. In the simulations, the phantom is a polytetrafluoroethylene cylinder inside which are cylindrical columns containing aluminum, water, and gold (Au)-loaded water solutions with Au concentrations ranging between 0.5 and 4.0 wt%, and a parallel-hole collimator imaging geometry was adopted. The light source was modeled based on a Thomson scattering X-ray source. The phantom images for both imaging modalities were reconstructed using a maximumlikelihood expectation maximization *** the X-ray fluorescence computed tomography (XFCT) and Compton scattering computed tomography (CSCT) images of the phantom were accurately reconstructed. A similar attenuation contrast problem for the different cylindrical columns in the phantom can be resolved in the XFCT and CSCT images. The interplay between XFCT and CSCT was analyzed, and the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) of the reconstruction was improved by correcting for the mutual influence between the two imaging modalities. Compared with K-edge subtraction imaging, XFCT exhibits a CNR advantage for the *** XFCT and CSCT can be realized by using linearly polarized X-rays. The synergy between the two imaging modalities would have an important application in cancer radiation therapy

Durable ruthenium oxide catalysts for water oxidation reaction

Water electrolysis is an important way for high-purity hydrogen production. However, the oxygen evolution reaction（OER）, as a key reaction, has a high energy barrier, and the associated catalyst is prone to failure. Therefore, efficient and stable OER catalysts are urgently required. Compared with commercial iridium oxide（IrO2）, ruthenium oxide（RuO2） has a lower price and higher catalytic activity for OER due to its location at the near-top of the volcano plot, but has lower structural stability. Thus, an in-depth understanding of the failure mechanism of RuO2is conducive to the reaction pathway design and structural modulation for obtaining higher stable RuO2catalysts. Here, we discuss recent advances in the enhancement of the stability of RuO2catalysts. First, we analyze in depth the three failure modes of RuO2, including the oxidation of Ru, the lattice oxygen evolution,and the catalyst exfoliation during the OER process. Second, to improve the durability of RuO2catalysts, five modification strategies, comprising defective engineering, strain engineering, phase engineering, interface engineering and microenvironmental engineering, are summarized, and corresponding enhancement mechanisms are also discussed. Finally, the challenges and possible solutions for further breakthroughs of RuO2catalysts are proposed, and the future research trends and prospects of RuO2catalysts are also envisioned. Undoubtedly, this work will contribute to the understanding and design of highly stable OER catalysts and beyond.

Considering the serious electromagnetic wave(EMW)pollution problems and complex application condition,there is a pressing need to amalgamate multiple functionalities within a single ***,the effective integration of diverse functions into designed EMW absorption materials still faces the huge ***,reduced graphene oxide/carbon foams(RGO/CFs)with two-dimensional/three-dimensional(2D/3D)van der Waals(vdWs)heterostructures were meticulously engineered and synthesized utilizing an efficient methodology involving freeze-drying,immersing absorption,secondary freeze-drying,followed by carbonization *** to their excellent linkage effect of amplified dielectric loss and optimized impedance matching,the designed 2D/3D RGO/CFs vdWs heterostructures demonstrated commendable EMW absorption performances,achieving a broad absorption bandwidth of 6.2 GHz and a reflection loss of-50.58 dB with the low matching ***,the obtained 2D/3D RGO/CFs vdWs heterostructures also displayed the significant radar stealth properties,good corrosion resistance performances as well as outstanding thermal insulation capabilities,displaying the great potential in complex and variable ***,this work not only demonstrated a straightforward method for fabricating 2D/3D vdWs heterostructures,but also outlined a powerful mixeddimensional assembly strategy for engineering multifunctional foams for electromagnetic protection,aerospace and other complex conditions.

The early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease(PD)provides opportunities for early intervention to slow the progression of neurological degeneration in patients,particularly as the aging population increases in our *** a series of pathological features of PD,mitochondria abnormalities have been identified as central event that occurs at the early stage of ***,the method for detecting mitochondrial abnormalities-associated early PD has not been fully *** herein report a specifically mitochondrial targeting probe(named TPA-BT-SCP)that is able to characterize mitochondria abnormalities for early diagnosis of PD and monitor PD neurodegenerative *** probe is an aggregation-induced emission(AIE)probe with a strong positive charge,a 3D distorted molecular structure,and a separated HOMO-LUMO distribution,designed with unique molecular design *** research demonstrated that TPA-BT-SCP could emit stable and strong fluorescence,and rapidly accumulate in mitochondria due to the negative *** intranasal administration of 1-methy-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP)-induced PD mice,TPA-BT-SCP successfully bypassed the blood−brain barrier to light up the brain,allowing the grading of PD severity based on its high *** together,this work develops a novel AIE probe that exhibits dramatically high sensitivity to mitochondrial changes and enables noninvasive diagnosis of early PD in the brain.
